The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt- developer interview

Vic B'Stard writes: I was half asleep as I was ushered into my last presentation of E3 2014. It had been one hell of a show and I was heading back home via an eleven-hour flight later that day.

The presentation was for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and as the game demo started I suddenly snapped to attention.

With its jaw-dropping visuals The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was easily one of the stand out titles of the show. The game’s developer CD Projekt RED, has built upon the sublime experience of The Witcher 2 to offer players the opportunity to freely explore Geralt of Rivia’s world for the first time.

After the show I put some questions to The Witcher 3’s senior art producer, Michal Krzeminski."

I'd pay $100 to have it tonight.

My only worry is open world combat. It's an rpg. Skyrim was abysmal in this area. It was absurdly easy, you could level every Stat and hold every position.

It's nice to have an open world and be able to go anywhere, but I like my rpgs like Ni No Kuni for example. Huge world you can explore, but areas are locked off until you are strong enough. I don't need an open world that I can explore every little area from go. Just so long as once the large areas are open, there is much to explore and eventually it's all open.

Either that or this!!! I love this idea but have never seen it. There's an open world and you can go anywhere any time you want. But there are triggers that at a certain point, new enemies appear in certain areas. There are still low level zones, but as you level, new enemies or quests or hunts appear in areas that once had different enemies or quests.

This is the evolution of open world, a dynamic open world that changes based on choices and leveling.

That and combat. It needs to be punishing.

I have more to say about The Witcher 3, but I'm embargoed until next week.

You don't need to lock off parts of the world to have areas restricted until you are a higher level. Have you aver played Morrowind? That was the perfect open world game, yet it was made many years ago. You just ran from certain enemies and avoid certain areas, until you upped your skills, go the right weapons and armor. That is how opened word RPG's should be designed. Unfortunately, Bethesda moved away from that because some casuals were trying to play the game and kept dying because there was no easy mode. You simply could not pick fights until you had skills to take on dangerous and higher level AI. So you joined a guild and honed your skills before heading out there on your own.

I've been playing the Witcher 2 on Xbox 360 since it was free with GWG, and I absolutely love it! Can't wait for the witcher 3!!!

NotALegend4139d ago

I literally bought a 360 last week JUST for the witcher 2. Bought a new copy and everything. 2 days later it was offered for free... Fml

VicBStard4139d ago

Worth every penny, though!

slapsta724139d ago

From last year's E3? Seriously?

"things are not as they seem! "

Huh. I wonder if that's a stab at the downgradeaton controversy.

The actor who portrayed Zoltan Chivay in The Witcher series of games has died

Alexander Morton, the Scottish actor probably best known for starring in British comedy drama Monarch of the Glen - but known to me for being the hilariously foul-mouthed dwarf Zoltan Chivay in The Witcher 2 and The Witcher 3 - has died aged 81.

Cause they play NBA2k26, COD and gamepass

3x less sales than Playstation.
3x less consoles sold than Playstation.

Per captita, it averages out that the same number of users are buying CDP games regardless of platform, no?

Bathyj65d ago

The exact same or possibly more because a series S, initial investment and effort to Port to Xbox consoles for a third of the return.

Simply not worth it

“ Simply not worth it”

And yet, basically every game comes to Xbox.

NotoriousWhiz64d ago (Edited 64d ago )

A third is a pretty big number to be honest. Like would you rather make 15 million or 20 million? That's the difference that a third makes.

Hey it’s ok. They are really impressed with XBOx’s new CEO so exclusivity is on the way. 😂

Loktai65d ago

Ok but I mean be logical ... modern PC, Switch, PS4 PS5 then you have XBOX, of all of those XBOX is probably only 10 percent... I mean, what do you expect? 10 percent increase in sales is still nothing to sneeze at, remember - this is CD projekt red and they sell a lot of software. 10 percent of their sales is probably what most studios DREAM of selling .... just playing devils advocate..... its easy to say LOL haha XBOX.... but.. I mean we know what it is at this point. I havent bought on since my xbox one X and before that I only used other peoples xboxes since the OG XBOX and stick with PC and Playstation and switch OLED, but .. I mean.... theres nothing WRONG with an xbox considering its just not the best - but they work fine. make no mistake.
