I just hope this doesn't sell well so they dont get away with this crap

Their greed will just screw them over and less people will buy the game. I for one am waiting for some sort of complete edition before I buy it.

It really is offensive. I've been looking forward to this game and will still probably purchase it, but I will not be getting the DLC.

Destiny is about as far as I'm willing to go, but at least Destiny added missions, two strikes, and new raid, along with loads of new gear.

Dark below provided more for the $20 than most other games DLC offers for $10-$15.

My point? This is a gigantic insult. $25 for 4 characters and 3 SKINS? Are they kidding with this? thats just under half the price of the whole game. lol.

And I KNOW they are on crack when they try to say that one monster is worth $15.

I'll admit, Destiny is borderline insulting, but I love the gameplay so much that I'm willing to pay it to keep things fresh. But this DLC doesn't even offer anything other than some characters and skins. For even MORE than what Destiny charged?

Crazy. I was slowly coming around to the idea of this game, but after this, i'll NEVER touch it.

Get over it people. The cost of making these games are going up and the price per game hasnt been touched in years...in fact it has went down from the SNES days. People like to complain but its because they do not look at the big picture. Destiny for example is nailed to the cross for being "stripped down", but in reality i paid 89.99 for a game that i have sunk almost 200 hours into now. I dont see it as i paid 59.99 + 29.99....i bought the game Destiny. If you like the game the price is worth it, if you dont its not. Stop trying to act like the end of all consumerism is near

Mediocre game, filled with greed from publisher. I will not be touching this game at all and definitely wouldnt be buying the dlc the way i dont support it on COD games, BF season passes and dlc like found on Destiny. Funny thing is the biggest offenders are the publishers making the most money like Activision, EA, etc...

What i hate the most are the consumers that are so gullible and defend this practice. there have been games with content cut out to be sold as dlc ahead of release and ppl still defended it.

We need to say %uck this practice and not support it!!! Souls series dlc is the only dlc ive ever bought and that was due to the fact that i got hundreds of hours out of the sp alone so i thought itd be worth it and dlc came out a gd time after.

These %ucking publishers sell the game for 60, season passes for 50 and seperate dlc prices and still cry. %uck you man!!!!!

After I played the Beta or alpha whatever it was, I'm not feeling the gmae anymore and the preoder crap now season pass bull$hit. I dont even care anymore. the game was like £20 on G2A still not gonna buy

I didn't have any interest in this game before, and after seeing this... well, I want to burn it with fire now.

All of the maps will be free dlc, this stuff is all cosmetic. What's the issue? Dota charges stupid prices for cosmetic stuff, and nobody says a thing.

This doesnt afect the full game its mostly skins it doesnt change gameplay from the looks of it.

i am so relieved i have no interest in this game. However, this looks like it can become a trend among publishers/developers. I don't want the game to bomb mostly because i don't like to wish a negative on anyone but i do hope that due to smart consumer behavior they realize that it is not the right way to treat potential customers

Let's wait for the "Goty edition" with full content at an affordable price. Too many games this year to spend on DLCs anyway...

Totally agree with this article... I had this pre-ordered from the moment this game was announced .(huge L4D fan) . I recently cancelled it. Getting tired of all this "exclusive & overpriced dlc"

so ubisoft wants to charge $25 for weak DLC for The Crew and it's ok?

I enjoy most racing games and most shooters, but when a company, whether a publisher or devloper wants to charge $15+ for weak dlc it just makes me wait for the game itself to come down at least 50% before I even consider purchasing just the base game.

I support DLC, but not when they assume people will just willingly fork over money for anything...

Game was getting mixed reviews. Many were saying it would get boring after a week or two of playing. With no kind of single playing mode to keep you entertained after playing the repetitive multiplayer game, this doesn't look like it will hold interest for long. I may take a peak at the strategy guide just to see what else is really offered in this game. The pricing for the DLC is a bit much as well. They want you to pay $14.99 for one boss or preorder the game and get it free? Huh??

Perfect reason for me to NOT by this game and now actually hope it does poorly. They really want to turn videogames into a $100 package per game type of thing...

The DLC prices for this game is ludicrous. I was on the fence about buying this, but after I saw the prices I'm not going to bother.

But yeah, I agree for the most part. I heard someone say there are €15 skins for Heroes of the Storm as well..crazy and it doesn't even add gameplay. But well, that's a f2p game so it's kind of fair.

I get that most people want the games day 1, I really do, but this industry has changed... With all DLC, pre-orders and the a ton of broken games on release I just can't risk to buy these games when they come out.
I rather wait for the complete edition or buy them on sale or even used...

Hate to break it to you but gamers are not known for turning down DLC, no matter how expensive or crappy it is.

I never buy games that rely heavily on DLC. If the game cant stand on its own without it or its not complete I do not buy it. I buy finished games which can add to the experience by buying DLC. Only if its reasonably priced and I can live without the DLC one way or the other.

Dont buy broken games. Wait until its fixed. They listen to the dollar. Make them give you complete games finished.

this is exactly the reason why indie games and games from small developers are so popular now. they put in more effort and don't blatantly rip you off. not only that, but you can bet your ass all that dlc for this game is already completed and is just being timed for release.

As a software developer myself (not games though), I'm of two sides with this.

On one hand, the average gamer (PC or console) is not going to empty their wallets just because a publisher says we should, or tempts us with 'freebies'. We expect to pay a certain dollar amount for a complete, bug-free, content-filled product that should keep us engaged for, at least, 8 hours. How long did Super Mario take us to finish as kids?

On the other hand, the development process is pretty expensive and both the developer and publisher want to try and recoup their costs and make a profit, even if that means taking a risk and raising the price a bit.

In my experience, custom application development (non-game app) can run anywhere between $5k and $150K, if not more depending on what it does (and therefore defining how long it takes to build) and who the audience is. The cost of developing a AAA game far exceeds that. I'm sure many of the same fiscal problems come about in game development as well, like the cost of closed-source software and hardware for every member of the development team, time spent in meetings, fixing bugs, more meetings, build errors, testing, more developing.

I read somewhere that the average AAA game developer makes around $85K/year. Multiply that times a few dozen, then add the salaries of people that don't code (PM's, QA testers, marketing agents, etc). Inflation, at least in the U.S., has effected the cost of making games (and software in general), but not necessarily the price of games for consumers. Yes, games do sell more copies nowadays (no thanks to the Atari fiasco around E.T.), but I believe that's the only reason the average cost of a game hasn't gone up. It balances out. It's entirely possible that Turtle Rock and 2K think this is a niche game and won't sell as many copies as more single player focused games and there for have to charge more per copy (and hedge their bets on DLC purchases).

I'm not trying to justify their practice by any means, but you have to look at the whole picture before you make assumptions and say something that simply isn't true. Sometimes the publisher thinks they can milk gamers for all they're worth, while other times development ended up costing more that expected. No one likes going over budget, but if it happens, you have to do something about it and that means cutting devs (because the big wigs aren't going to leave) or charging more for the product in the end.

Believe what you want, but speculation isn't fact and until they tell you exactly why they are doing what they're doing, you'll never know.

I was thinking of picking this up but the pricey DLC has put me off, there really milking us at 10 euro a monster and a hand full of skins !! like really !! who charges that for skins !!

Played for 30 seconds, got eaten by a flower, turned the game off and never went back.

This game is one of those things in life that sounds great in theory, but in practice just doesn't work whatsoever.

I won't encourage that behaviour with my precious money.

I could see this game was not going to live up to any sort of expectations the moment it was shown. Same as Titanfall, Destiny, Etc. This industry is going down the toilet because people keep buying into this garbage. Just look at skylanders!

This is the result of all the sh*tty releases of 2014. Consumer faith is at an all time low, so now they have to danglle otherwise expensive carrots in front of our face or else feel left behind. Dying light is doing this as well with their highly advertised be a zombie mode. Kinda glad my daughter is now born cuz I will be occupied enough with her and the games I already own. Please don't buy into this and let it become a trend gamers. Be strong.

Ill preorder it, i get this monster free anyway and when the new monster and hunters are released i can decide whether the new content is worth my money or not. This way of doing business isn't new, i remember when Naughty Dog came up with a season pass for Uncharted 3 that included content we already pay for (at least in my case) in Uncharted 2.

Thanks for making my decision easier, 2K. It really sucks that this sort of thing is becoming commonplace. At least I'll be saving money next month unless The Order:1886 turns out to be more than just a bunch of quick time events spread over a few sporadic shootouts.

First game was a disaster. Full price release with more paid DLC than actual content. They dropped support so fast too. One of the biggest let downs in modern gaming.
