Pre-order canceled and waiting for a $25.00 GOTY.
I'm done with this kind of nonsense.

Yi-Long4150d ago

Kinda been my strategy from the first moment they started with all that DLC-milking crap...

Working fine for me: I haveto be a bit patient, but obviously you end up getting much more value for your money. And a huge backlog considering you are able to buy more games.

nX4150d ago (Edited 4150d ago )

The thing is that many games don't even get GOTY editions anymore. And by the time this edition might release people probably have moved on to other games and you'll end up with half-full servers full of pro's.
I think these kind of DLC plans will hurt the game more than the developers think.

Yi-Long4150d ago (Edited 4150d ago )

... I agree with that notion, which is why the only way a game like this would ever get any of my money, would be to just offer a complete game from the get-go.

Single-player games with DLC, I can pick up 1-2 years later, for a fraction for the money, if they have gotten a complete release by then, and IF I'm still interested by then.

If they DON'T get a complete release, then either I skip them completely, or by that time the main game will be only 5-10 bucks in the bargain-bin, so that's ok... (and I wouldn't buy any of the seperate DLC)

Before all this DLC-milking, I would go out and they would get my 50-60 bucks in their first week of release.

Since they started becoming greedy and trying to nickel-and-dime us 5 seconds after releasing a game, it's extremely rare for me to spend more than 30 bucks on any game anymore. I rarely buy new games these days, because I don't like buying incomplete games and then see them charging me 30 bucks or more to get the rest.

The Witcher 3 WILL be bought for full price in it's first week, cause they will offer me a complete experience for my 50-60 euro!

It's that simple.

Of course, a game like Battlefield 4 is still being played nowadays, so I picked that up a few months ago for 40 euro total (BF4 Premium). If I had bought it day 1 and also all the DLC, I would have had to have spend over 110 euro for that complete experience. Now I've got it (and working properly) almost a year later, but for only 40 euro.

But games like Evolve, or PayDay 2, which have so much DLC-milking and such a limited amount of players, plus a primary focus on MP.... I don't see me picking up such games a year later. Like you said, those online communities will probably be dead by then.

Last game I picked up full price was GTA5 for PS4, cause they don't DLC-milk, and I never picked it up for old-gen, so it was new and complete for me.

FullmetalRoyale4150d ago

I agree. It is a difficult strategy to START. What I mean is you see yourself missing out on all of these games everyone else seems to be talking about.
However, once get that backlog going after a while, you'll be in that sweet spot of always having games to play, while saving money.

We shall see if I can pass up Arkham Knight though... :/

UKmilitia4150d ago (Edited 4150d ago )

they really need to stop the retail special items etc,its killing games imo.
GAME.UK is always doing it yet they charge more also.

it should be here is the game at set price and no special items to tempt u in.

standard game
limited/collectors edition

it wouldnt be as bad if u just got the monsters from startrather than lvl 50 for example, but to offer something that is only possoble from a certain store is just wrong in every way and as i usually do with games,i vote with my wallet.

thats all there should be

Jdoki4150d ago

I think a lot of dev studios need much better PR skills.

If Turtle Rock had said early in the development that they had a certain amount of budget that would allow them to create a set number of Hunters / Monsters for retail, and the rest would come later as DLC, then most people would have been OK with that.

Instead we get this sort of clusterscrewup, where it feels (even if it isn't true) that the dev / publisher is being a greedy soulless ass, especially at the prices listed so far.

Ashunderfire864150d ago

They should at least delay the game until sometime in spring or summer to get all those monsters and hunters in, then give us DLC later. A rental for me.

Binnsy4150d ago

They'll need to work hard to justify DLC. No DLC in L4D.

Cherchez La Ghost4150d ago

Funny thing you mentioned L4D. L4D "Cold Stream" gave you all the maps from L4D 1 included.

tlougotg4150d ago

The problem is that many publishers tested the waters and saw that many consumers were gullible and dumb and even defended the dlc practice even when it was obvious they cut parts of certain games to sell as dlc and sold us less. Now they will keep milking until ppl wisen up and just dont buy this crap or support it.

Just how COD dlc doesnt get my money, Bs Battle Field expensive season passes doesnt get my money, and most dlc in other games (Destiny is another smh) I wont be even buying this mediocre game. As a matter of fact the last time i bought DLC was for Dark Souls 2 and that DLC was definitely warranted after i spent hundreds of hours on the base sp game.

The way publishers treat us like cash cows and the way they are always complaining about not making enough money after they sell us a 60 dollar game, 50 dollar season passes and dlc (raking in the money) they can go &uck themselves.

Whats crazy is that the biggest offenders are the publishers making the most money and profit like Activision!!!!, EA, etc.......

Puty4150d ago (Edited 4150d ago )

What's the problem? Buy the inevitable "complete/definitive/GOTY edition" a year later, half the price. Or if it flops, it will come to PS + later.

Since gamers eat this shit up, companies are so bold to release later "complete" versions not even hiding that they tried to sell you the game in pieces earlier.

Report: Evolve 2 Was Once in Development, Concept Art Reveals Scrapped Sequel

It has been recently revealed by an artist that a sequel to the 2015 title Evolve was in the works. However, this project wouldn't last long.

jznrpg309d ago

Didn’t bother with the first one.

TheColbertinator309d ago

All I wanted was Left 4 Dead 3 instead

Abnor_Mal309d ago

Was this game ahead of its time? A few years later games like Dead By Daylight, Friday the 13th and other asymmetrical games exploded onto the scene.

MeteorPanda309d ago

if lm not mistaken it started the asymmetrical pvp matches. Evolves logo was a nod to their concept.

The_Blue309d ago

They should have because I played the first one when it was already dead

Evolve or Die: The final days of the follow-up to Left 4 Dead

Back in 2016, Turtle Rock announced that support for its 4v1 monster-hunting shooter Evolve would end but fans wouldn't let it die.

‘Evolve: Stage 2’ is back from the dead as peer-to-peer servers come back online

From NME: "Evolve: Stage 2 had its multiplayer servers shut down back in 2018, but today players are once again able to matchmake and join peer-to-peer multiplayer games.

Several months ago, peer-to-peer functionality was lost for Evolve Legacy, which was the only way fans of the series could play with friends. Upon a multitude of players reaching out to publisher 2K, the issue was eventually fixed earlier in July. It seems 2K have gone a step further now, and reinstated peer-to-peer and matchmaking functionality for Evolve: Stage 2 after four years."

MIDGETonSTILTS171398d ago

^^this, I have so many awesome skins on Xbox that I’d rather not lose

Germaximus1398d ago

Yes so far because it's just the servers alone coming on and the console version never had the free-to-play update.

I imagine if they find people playing the PC version and enough players are enjoying it then they'd probably reconsider opening console as well but I wouldn't count on it.

The game was epic as a monster. Hunters were really boring to play as to me.

LordoftheCritics1398d ago

I used to play this a bit.

Was kinda fun.
