When so many games are broken on arrival, or getting delayed, should developers stop giving fixed release dates and focus on polishing games for launch?

I would also add Risk of Rain 2 as long as you don't stray too far from a power source as each run can be long as the hours melt away. Another thing to note is that based on the reports, the FPS may drop into the 40s if a lot of enemies are on the screen.
There is also the Half Life series. If you haven't played half-life before then you can do so now at the super low price.
Mafia was amazing looking and had a great story. Played flawlessly at 30fps as well without dips 99% of the time.
The same is true for Jedi Fallen Order
Sony games as also on sale. Picked up Rachet and Clank, cant wait to try it!
Abandoning Fixed release dates wouldn't work, because there is alot of pressure for on the developers from the publishers (hense rushed and broken games) plus the outlets or stores need a concrete date so they can advertise in the shop windows and online etc.
Its not the developers decision, the publisher decides at the start of development they want to release a game lets say in the first week of November without consulting the developers to see if that is even possible.
Best way to do it is to say a game will be released in a certain quarter of the year eg. Q4. But when we r all in the q3, the developers narrow it down to an actual date. Its a nice middle ground for everyone, gamers less likely to be disappointed by a delay, developers dnt gave to stress about finishing on an exact deadline, and the publishers get reassured of the release window.
Pubilshers should. Games should have TLC during the developmental stages. Too many games are rushed and broken. They shouldn't take as long as FFvs13 aka FF15 however.....
I was thinking you could do both if pre-orders weren't a thing meaning you could announce release dates as the game is almost wrapping up. Then delays wouldn't need to be and the game would release when done... but we know that won't happen if its a holiday release.
