Gaming has come a long way since the early creation of games like pong, but to be taken seriously as a medium of entertainment and art the industry needs to continue to evolve. Gaming is a creative outlet unlike anything ever before, but for people to realize this, developers need to take steps to help push the entire industry into the future. So, seeing as it’s the start to a brand new year, here are some ways that gaming can (and should) evolve in 2015.

New report from Skillsearch found that 22% of those surveyed had been laid off within the past 12 months.

It's a step forward for Stop Killing Games.

The Callisto Protocol director thinks the solution involves the right people, the right timing, and perhaps a little bit of AI
I don't agree with that. I WISH I could agree with that. But buying habits and customer opinions prove otherwise
We've seen developers in the AAA space try new things and ideas. More often than not, the customers aren't willing to give things a chance, or not enough people buy into the project for it to grow.
Creativity works better in the indie space because the budgets, pressures, and expectations aren't the same.
it's a nice idea and it worked during the PS2/PS3-era when AAA didn't cost hundreds of millions of dollars. smaller budgets and shorter development time left room for more creativity and more risk. a game didn't need to sell 4 million+ copies to break even. things are different now.
This is the guy who bragged about crunching his staff and having them work through the night. Crunch culture has lost more talent and done more damage to the industry than any other factor. Screw him.
Naughty Dog is the most evolved and progressive developer in the planet. They have matured with the gamer since the Sega Genesis to PSOne, PS2, PS3, to PS4.
Definitely looking forward to the evolution of Uncharted. TLOU and their next new game.
The gaming world is definitely waiting for them to top their last game because they are known for doing.
Now that they are back on the planet's most popular next gen gaming platform all eyes are on their next game lovers and haters alike.
Waaaaait a moment. There is a complaint that next games so far felt like previous gen games and that games should utilities the concept of choice? Ehm Mass Effect games, Tell Tale games, KOtOR games, Dragon Age games, Heavy Rain anf plenty of other games and franchises put choice at the center stage.
Not every game needs to have choices. There is nothing wrong with a story driven game that does not offer players the choice if they want to do X or Y. That doesn't mean that Mass Effect is better than TLoU because it gives you choices it just means one game and it's story was designed to give players a choice while the other was not designed to do that. There is no right or wrong if games need to give players a choice.
As for game mechanic's, yes the latest CoD is fun, but games like Tribes come to my mind that already used the mechanic of jumping far. While I see the desire for "new mechanic's" it's by far not as easy to come up with them after many years of gaming.
I look for the evolution of gameplay, and not just graphics. Like Sean Murray (Hello Games) said in an Interview: "I feel that A lot of games have used technology generally to have better graphics and not change gameplay". What he was talking about is exactly what I've been saying, "Next Gen" isn't really about the graphics, it should be about the evolution of gameplay. Main reason that I've been following No Man's Sky so close, it's something new, an amazing concept if executed correctly.
