Rumour - Source: Halo 4 is already in development

Sarcastic Gamer reports:

"At some point you'll just have to trust us on some of this stuff. We have to protect our sources to keep them from being fragged by their employers or associates.

A very good and anonymous source tells us that Halo 4 is already in full development over at Bungie. I wish to God She/He/It had more details to share but at this point all She/He/It can confirm for sure is that Halo 4 is an official project being developed by Bungie, at this very moment.

With more than 20 million copies of Halo 3 sold worldwide, I know it's a no-brainer that the series would continue somehow. It's nice to get this sort of reassurance from a source who has never been wrong for us before.

If we get more details, we'll share them. If She/He/It is wrong… They'll be quietly disposed of..."

But nice to know what Bungie's up to nonetheless. I wonder if we'll get to truly "Finish the Fight" like the ads promise. Or maybe they'll wait for the new "fight" to begin around 2010-2011 with the NextBox launch?

What do you guys think?

NegativeCreepWA6522d ago (Edited 6522d ago )

The Covenant was destroyed in Halo 3, so I don't where your coming from saying the fight wasn't finished. Bungie just left it open for a new fight to begin.

donator6522d ago (Edited 6522d ago )

Might as well. Halo 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, what else can we make a 4th iteration of?

DarthTigra 6522d ago

And devil may cry 4 and dead or alive 4.

DarthTigra 6522d ago

Nba street homecourt is a number 4 same with the new midnight club

Superfragilistic6522d ago (Edited 6522d ago )

Last time I checked the Humans weren't just fighting the Covenant, did you finish it on Legendary and get the ending that reveals where Master Chief is headed?

EDIT: Please explain the disagrees.

kazuma6522d ago

the remake of final fantasy 4 =D

donator6522d ago (Edited 6522d ago )

Maybe the Master Chief can battle five PMCs (Private Military Contractors) on Earth that are run by a dummy corporation known as the Covenant, who we thought was destroyed in Halo 3, but lives on in the body of an amputee soldier who transplanted a Covenant arm onto his body.

The Covenant wants to destroy the central AI, Cortana, which secretly controls everything on Earth, including Master Chief, without their knowledge. Cortana, not wanting to be destroyed, sends Master Chief to kill the guy who has the Covenant's will instilled in him and his PMCs.

At one point during the game, he'll have to pass through a microwave hallway. His helmet visor will eventually burst finally revealing the face of Master Chief. He's an old man...

Lifendz6522d ago

Or is it coming to the next console? Halo 4 news is exciting. Glad to hear Bungie is the team making it too.

SixTwoTwo6522d ago

Halo is only one of the most successful franchises ever made and common sense tells you that part 4 was going to come eventually. Anybody who thought Halo 3 was the last Halo game is retarded.

Shankle6522d ago

Soul Calibur 4 + Timesplitters 4

GiantEnemyCrab6522d ago

@1.9: That would be a horrible story. Where did you make that up from? OH wait!

xionpunk6522d ago

@donator we need a Jak 4

Oh and yeah like no one expected this. Just like no one really expected MGS4 to be the last Metal Gear.

plenty a tool6522d ago

i'm thinking that perhaps a launch title for the next xbox. if microsoft could release a new machine complete with halo4 and gears3 as launch titles.....them machines would just fly off the shelves.

i'll be getting one either way.

Nevers6522d ago (Edited 6522d ago )

The Covenant might be in tatters and possibly allied with us but I expected way more for the third and "final" installment's ending. That stupid "ball" boss was a huge let down and that giant tentacled blob's extermination wasn't really shown. Besides... if you got the true ending you'll know Chiefy's still alive and needs to get back home and I'm sure he's gonna have to blast his way there.

shazam6521d ago

Yes the Halo trilogy is a prequel to the Marathon trilogy. If you played Marathon on a Mac back in the day you would realize that Master Chief looks awfully familiar.

mistertwoturbo6521d ago

hey shazam, i used to play marathon as a kid. that was my first introduction to "first person" shooters before doom. i'd buy a 720 just for Halo 4 if it truly is in the marathon world. there'd be too much nostalgia for me

season0076521d ago

11 or 12 now, they have actually changed the name to the year because the name would be weird if its winning eleven eleven lol..

One trick pony status... CONFIRMED!

Fishy Fingers6522d ago

In Halo, Bungie have one of the most successful/popular franchises of modern gaming. Do you really expect them to change their formula?

Game production on this scale has become very expensive, to achieve the funding/support required you need to be able to guarantee a return on that investment.

While I would love to see Bungie working on something new, you can't blame them for sticking to what they know.

pwnamon6522d ago

There is no doubt that Halo 4 is in development, it's like claiming the sun will come up.

But it's nice to have reassurance.

Drekken6522d ago

I understand that it is a proven formula... but after Halo3 I was hoping they would put something new out. I like devs to switch it up.

Superfragilistic6522d ago

Kind of how I feel about Kojima. I'd really love him to leave MGS4 as the perfect closing chapter and move on to a new IP.

But then again I'd still probably buy MGS5, just like I would Halo 4, and all the other sequels like GTAIV, Resident Evil 5, DMC4, SF4, COD4, etc...

Xi6522d ago

bungie is working on a new IP right now too, one that's been in development since the end of halo 2.

and bungie has made some of the best games ever, marathon(probably the most revolutionary fps ever made), myth 1/2(which was the first real time tactics game), oni (which was never fully completed).

Hagaf226521d ago

mario was once the biggest gaming franchise and look at it now... i would hate to see a great title like halo fall to that...

20 million copy's? News to me lol

NegativeCreepWA6522d ago

I hope they change the art style for the new one. I don't think they could make it look any better if they stick with the same one, kind of like DOA.

The BS Police6522d ago

I think they meant that all 3 Halo games combined have sold over 20 million copies.

Superfragilistic6522d ago (Edited 6522d ago )

Yeah that's what I thought. Although I checked my watch to make sure it wasn't "Fiction Friday" first! lol

Anyway added an update to the story, :)

LastDance6522d ago (Edited 6522d ago )

maybe He just got confused and thought halo was just one big game.... It's not like there's a difference.. HAR HAR...

It's okay ill go to the open zone myself.

Edit: They need to put the jumping back like The original halo.....I liked that much bettter

JVIDICAN6522d ago

fiction friday is indepedence day
there off tommorow, so they decided to make it fiction thurday =P

Halo art director leaves studio after 17 years with ominous message alluding to discontent

Glenn Israel writes: "As of today and after seventeen long years, I am officially no longer contributing to the Halo universe. There is little more I can say for the moment, though I intend to share this particular story in its entirety when it is absolutely safe to do so next year. In the meantime, I have a message for anyone and everyone who needs to hear it.

I know that the state of our industry seems dire, but never forget that you are *free to choose*. No illusion of security nor promise of wealth or fame or power is worth trading away your health, your dignity, your ethics or values - and no one can force you to. Stay strong, take evidence when necessary, and find where you belong."

My god.
There's a story for next year.

VenomUK213d ago

I’m really disappointed to learn there are still people/morale problems. I thought the whole point of rebranding 343i to Halo Studios was to signal that real changes had been made - not to cynically rebrand to paper over the problems.

I really hope the Halo CE remake is great and gets people hyped for the future of the series.

DarXyde212d ago

It's inevitable with the modern landscape. Even if some issues have been assuaged, new ones crop up all the time.

I'm willing to bet AI and the lack of regulation is causing substantial upset.

shinXseijuro213d ago (Edited 213d ago )

He said something very marking . We tend to complain a lot about the industry but deep down I realize that we never have we been offered this crazy amount of games all available for you to play now . You can literally play any sorts of games in 2025 . Nobody is forcing you to buy the latest COD or the latest BF . You’re more of a 8 bit cozy gaming guy there’s a whole niche of modern games for that . You like micromanaging there’s games for that . I feel like we have been spoiled so much we just stopped being realistic and thinking for ourselves . We follow trends cry about stuff online when you are the buyer you have the power .

Notellin212d ago

I'm not buying any games until another Immersive sim is made.

PhillyDonJawn213d ago

....wth happened over there?
Does this confirm a new Halo by next year?
What did they want him to do that made him feel it was morally wrong or a insult to his integrity?

-Foxtrot213d ago

Well how about that, a name change doesn’t fix internal issues

Who would have thought

Halo 4 & Halo 5: Guardians Sales Reached Nearly 10 Million Units Worldwide

Lifetime sales of 343 Industries' first-person shooters, Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians, reached nearly 10 million units worldwide each.

There were reports that Halo 4 and Halo 5 had similar sales to Halo: Reach years ago. The clickbait websites and rage bait YouTubers from 2012-2016 just wanted to spread excessive negativity about the franchise for their own benefit.

VenomUK302d ago

What did Halo: Infinite sell?

Sciurus_vulgaris302d ago

I don’t know. However, I would assume around 10 million. All the Halo FPS titles have done around 10 million sales, except ODST. Halo 3, was reported to exceed 14 million copies. I still remember back in 2007-2008, Halo 3 and COD 4 would duke it out for the most played XBL game.

MrNinosan302d ago

@Sciurus

There is NO WAY Infinite sold 10 million. Wake up dude.
Once upon a time, there was gamers on the Xbox side who actually bought games. Those times are since long gone.

Infinite has most likely not even hit 5 million sales

slate91302d ago

Nearly 10 million units and killing the brand is crazy work. Nicely done.

peppeaccardo302d ago

This New: Putting chocolate chips on top of a freshly made dog turd .....

1Victor302d ago

So let me get this straight in almost 13 years both games sold a combined 10 millions units.
Now I’m not going to use the obscured mentality and compared it to the amount of consoles sold and say it’s a failure 🤷🏿

thesoftware730302d ago (Edited 302d ago )

1Victor,

Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians, reached nearly 10 million units worldwide "each."

Read it again, there is a word in there that clears up your misunderstanding.

1Victor302d ago

@thesoftware720
I apologize I skimmed through the article and the headline blinded me and stuck in my mind thank you for the correction 👍👍

AuraAbjure302d ago (Edited 302d ago )

Halo 4 is the best multiplayer ever! It’s even better than Titanfall 2. I admit Halo 4 got CoDified but there’s nothing wrong with taking inspiration from other games sometimes and halo 4 did it sooooo well with that speed boost plus sword combo and SAW plus damage booth combo, holy guacamole 🥑

Some crucial improvements to halo 4 could’ve been to boost the power of the AA sentinel, and whenever matchmaking pits people against each other with an armor abilities turned off completely then the map needs to routinely spawn, plentiful, predictable, power weapons. Also, all frame rate drops are unacceptable for a halo game during split-split screen or couch co-op. Just dynamically scale the resolution of the game down but whatever happens don’t let the framer dip in a Halo game for the love of all that is holy and good!

My personal gameplay of getting 30 kills in a 4 v. 4 game of team slayer up to 60.

OG Destiny artist recalls Bungie’s “disgruntled” reaction to Halo 4’s art style change

Original Destiny artist Darren Bacon recalls how Bungie reacted to the art style change of Halo 4 by 343 Industries.

Bungie at that time became the most wonderful bunch of hypocrites in the gaming industry. Knowing this now, gosh the entitlement they felt was out of this world.

Nothing like buying yourself from Microsoft because you don't want to be the Halo Studio anymore, and the FIRST THING you do is sign your next IP over to Activision, for a DECADE, while they are in the middle of ousting the heads of Infinity Ward so they can exert even more control over COD while screwing out the devs at IW...

Should've come as no surprise then that Activision gutted the content of Destiny 1 before launch and was a horrible partner through Destiny 2, until history repeated itself and Bungie had to split from Activision only to wind up in the arms of another major conglomerate that also doesn't know how to handle these unmanageable devs.

Profchaos384d ago

Tti their credit they praised the technical abilities of 343 and I remember at the time thinking halo 4 was a huge graphical leap above reach everything else was rubbish when I actually got to play it but there was no doubt it looked good for the 360 and is probably the best looking game on the system.

But ultimately I think bungie has always had a leadership problem and going independent ultimately proved this it's only getting worse with studio heads being outed by Sony for abuse allegations seems like all bungies past success has been in spite of management not because of it.

But really I think the bungie we have today is not the same one we had in that Xbox era of Bungie

PhillyDonJawn384d ago

I liked the artstyle change. For the most part. Something looked worse but most of everything else looked better. Weapons and vehicles for sure. The wraith come to my mind instantly.
And how can they get mad when the bungie changed it with Halo Reach?

Sciurus_vulgaris384d ago

I know a lot of people dislike Halo 4’s arts style, but there’s thing about it I like and dislike. Personally, the Halo 4 design of Master Chief’s armour is my favourite depiction of the character’s armour.
