YAY!
Good stuff from Microsoft!

It has great implications. I will wait to see benefits in the coming months

lifeisgamesok4158d ago

And don't forget Microsoft is targeting holiday 2015 games for Directx 12 (Microsoft blog) so games will be more efficient/easier to make :) we'll see them at E3

GameNameFame4158d ago

DX12? Are you for real still?

DX12 mostly benefits PC. MS never said it was for console.

Even spencer had to double clarify that.

Xbox fans needs to stop overselling and looking for secret sauce.

Its fact....wake up.

Kribwalker4158d ago (Edited 4158d ago )

""It will help developers on XBOX One. It’s not going to be a massive change but will unlock more capability for devs.”

He then goes on to clarify that DX12 gives first-party studios the option to take risks and try concepts that other companies might not be interested in using or willing to take risks on. In many circles, this is being interpreted as a tacit admission that DX12 probably won’t improve the Xbone’s performance much — but Spencer isn’t weaseling here, and he’s not selling a bill of goods."

So it is a bigger difference for first party studios that can affect 3rd party studios if they decide to do these same things that the first party studios do. At least that is what Phil is implying in the article

The most recent sdk is fantastic though if they are opening the system up even more for programmers

GameNameFame4157d ago (Edited 4157d ago )

Look. All consoles get updates on dev kits. That includes PC.

Lets not keep trying to grasp for that straw. X1 will improve over time, but so will other consoles if not at faster rate.

Lets not try to make something out of nothing.

Just accept it and stop makong harder for your self.

freshslicepizza4157d ago

"Lets not keep trying to grasp for that straw. X1 will improve over time, but so will other consoles if not at faster rate."

why would they improve at a faster rate than the xbox one? first of all it was the xbox one that had a bit of a handicap because kinect utilized some of the hardwares resources, that is now left up to the developer to utilize. second of all its the xbox one that has proven more difficult than the ps4 to work on because of the esram. this is why we are getting an update. so tell me again how the other consoles will improve at a faster rate?

we all know the ps4 is still more powerful but to suggest the xbox one is improving at a slower rate is unfounded. you look at early titles like call of duty, the ps4 gap was much larger than the new game even though the new game looks way better. mind explaining that one? or are you going to assume some parity clause youve made up?

zero_gamer4157d ago

Xbox One is still going to get more out of the hardware than it currently is. That's the point. No need to shoehorn the competition into a discussion that has nothing to do with it.

Docknoss4157d ago

Go away gamernamefame, we don't like your kind around here (fist shake in the air).

fr0sty4157d ago

Every console gets SDK improvements over time... they just don't all make a big deal out of it.

Any improvement to ESRAM would be minimal. You can only go so far in making the movement of data in and out of 32mb... not even enough memory to store an mp3 album at near CD quality, more efficient.

VegasDawg4157d ago

@Kingthrash360 I'm sure he thanks you for proving his point, the X1 will see an improvement.

Kal0psia4157d ago (Edited 4157d ago )

@fr0sty

Yeah, you would know that it would be minimal if nothing, at least that's what you hope for. It's obvious.

@GameNameFame

We all know your intentions here, and it's nothing good. If there are fans of a technology that are willing to speculate, let it be. As long as it doesn't fill over to fanboy sentiments.

So, it's already a known fact that Dx12 IS going to be a big deal. Now whill it be for all studios? ...No! But will it provide something innovative to only Microsoft's studios to fully implement without risk worries? Yes!!

The point is time and again some third party studio developers have come and stated Dx12 is going to be a true game changer across the board for development as a whole. But we'll obviously as gamers not see this change anytime soon,(I'm betting 2016 games for sure)...

So you might fret about similar XOne articles spreading negativity, but fact is this will be a huge deal given that APIs define how powerful hardwares are and Dx12 for sure is going to be innovative. Only problem is when will all studios catch on to the new implementations after it's launch and games showcasing it's "power". ;D

GameNameFame4157d ago (Edited 4157d ago )

@kal0psia

You are prime example. Lol. Stop dreaming. DX12 is known to be a big deal. Yea. Only on PC. MS themselves even clarified it won't be much for x1.

It does not matter what studios. Dx12 is mostly for PC.

Stop grasping straws.

@moldbread

You do realize that so called kinect unlock already happened. And dev confirmed it is variable of 2 percent to 9 percent power unlock.

What is most hypocritical is that xbox fans talk about how big 2 to 9 percent tflop was. You do realize that ps4 has about 40 percent more.

Problem is the dev have reported spent more time on x1 version optimizing so that it does not lag too far behind. So it is already well optimized. PS4 on the still room to be optimized.

Also, X1 is already struggling with resolution. How in the hell will it add new effects, physics, lightings and all those graphical goodies if it already ran out of power and can't keep up in resolution? And that is with more optimization time.

Kal0psia4157d ago (Edited 4157d ago )

^

That's the problem you're seeing it in terms of the question asked to Phil whether it was going to be a hardware booster, and clearly shot it down which wasn't a surprise to me because hardware are outdated the day it's launched. The point is software is a huge deal especiall an API application, there is no way you can doubt that. So don't filter me into the typical fanboy argument in claiming that Dx12 is going to get us to 4k resolutions.

The point is your adamant behaviour is clearly the example of grasping straws by going to unnecessary lengths to prove something you have no clue about. Developers have stated this will be a innovative technology for developers, not hardware power. It will most likely help to a high degree aritist than anything else and I believe so since this is Microsoft, not your typical software company.

I didn't come into this article grapsing straws I came here to further confirm the inevitable coming of a revolutionary API, not some pipe dream of 10 extra frame rates or gigaflops of some measuremnt of hardware power most here don't have a clue on what they're on about.

freshslicepizza4157d ago (Edited 4157d ago )

"You do realize that so called kinect unlock already happened. And dev confirmed it is variable of 2 percent to 9 percent power unlock."

yes i know it already happened. does that mean you concur the xbox one is improving and that your assumption other systems are improving at a faster rate was not correct?

"What is most hypocritical is that xbox fans talk about how big 2 to 9 percent tflop was. You do realize that ps4 has about 40 percent more."

so is this all you really wanted to come here for, to tell us how the ps4 is more powerful? great, we know that. that wasn't the argument. if that is all you came here for great, i guess your done then. you still didn't back up your own argument about the other consoles improving at a faster rate. the fact is the xbox one has made advancements. we seen early titles like call of duty show a bigger gap earlier. now the new game shows less of a gap yet you want to tell us how these new advancements of the xbox one are meaningless.

"Problem is the dev have reported spent more time on x1 version optimizing so that it does not lag too far behind. So it is already well optimized. PS4 on the still room to be optimized."

your confusing your own message. first you tell us the other consoles are improving at a faster rate but are now saying the ps4 still can be optimized.

"Also, X1 is already struggling with resolution. How in the hell will it add new effects, physics, lightings and all those graphical goodies if it already ran out of power and can't keep up in resolution? And that is with more optimization time."

the new call of duty is a prime example. it looks better than the last one and the discrepancies to that of the ps4 have gotten smaller, not larger. grand theft auto v does not show a huge gap.

it is clear your only here to troll the article because its suggesting the xbox one is improving and for whatever reason you don't like that. if you just want to talk about how much better the ps4 is then we already got that from you. i think your time here is done.

donthate4157d ago

Much arguing, but what I am seeing is more and more games are reaching parity at a pretty steady clip. Multiple devs already pointed to the CPU as the limiting factor, not the GPU.

In short, the Xbox One does have a minor benefit there, but I think overall it will be pretty indistinguishable when said and done!

This is great news. Hopefully this means we'll have a lot of games in native 1080p more consistently in the future. Dying light looks epic, & can't wait to play it in native 1080p on xbox one.

Yup and once DX12 drops on the XB1 just before the E3, 1080P will be a standard on the XB1. DX12 by itself won't do much on the XB1, but DX12 is actually a key. Once the pieces in the XB1 actually start utilizing the DX12, the system will never be the same. 1080P will be the standard on the XB1.

Well a certain fanbase who essentially control this site, dont want info like this to get out cuz they want to continue the notion that the XB1 is weak.

We all know MS wouldnt just hand over a 30% power gap to Sony. They have contingency plans such as DX12 to be more efficient with the ESram thats already on XB1. Or the $3bn custom build APU from AMD vs Sony's off the shelf APU.

Clarence4158d ago

Yeah ok. A certain fanbase that runs this site. It seems that a certain fanbase that runs this site find it hard to believe that the PS4 will continue you to improve over time as well. Custom chip will only help if the developers figure out how utilize it.

The same can be said about the PS4. Developers will figure out better ways to get more out of the PS4. The PS4 will continue to outperform the Xbone in sales and performance.

Keep on eating that seceret sauce bs it will make you fat.

xKugo4158d ago

Oh look, another MisterXmedia faithful; still clinging to all those delusions that he continues to feed you. *Sigh* So sad...

Not even going to try and talk you down from them, just going to sit back and LOL at you instead. Soooooooo......... L.O.L

Silly gameAr4158d ago

What fanbase controls this site? I see all kinds of crazies come around these parts. See a few in here that seem a bit on the delusional side that thinks certain fanbases runs sites when you can just read the comments here and see that's not true.

gangsta_red4158d ago

Funny that the certain fanbase Waluigi is referring to are the ones responding to him and trying to shoot him down.

Thanks for proving his point 100%.

Silly gameAr4158d ago

Funny and surprising that you would come to his defense, then again, no it's not.

rainslacker4157d ago

Poor gamers. Must suck to be so oppressed around here by a certain fan base. Stupid community driven sites...if only there was a way to change the tides.

I knew holding off playing it for 10 years was the right call.

ocelot07321d ago

I remember playing this for the first time on the PS4 and it knocking me sick and hurting my eyes due to the horrible motion blur and FPS.

Played it a lot on pc a year later. Then again on ps5 once they dropped the 60fps update. I'll be giving it another go. Mad how they have kept updating this game for 10 years.

Ten Years Later - Still Going Strong: Dying Light: Retouched Update Releasing June 26

Hey Survivors! Tymon here, your favorite Dying Light Franchise Director.

It's been an absolutely wild month here at Techland! We're in the thick of what I'm calling the "Summer of Dying Light," delivering updates and big news across all three Dying Light games. Just a few weeks ago, we dropped the first gameplay for Dying Light: The Beast, revealed its release date, and kicked off pre-orders (if you haven't seen it, check out my last dev blog). I'm incredibly proud of what we're building with The Beast - it’s the culmination of more than 10 years of experience in open-world survival horror!

But here's the thing: we never forget where we came from. That's why, this week, we're not just looking forward - we're rolling out significant updates for both the original Dying Light and Dying Light 2: Stay Human. We promised to support our games for a long time, and we're committed to continuing that support, right through and beyond the launch of Dying Light: The Beast.

Looking Back At The $386,000 Dying Light 'My Apocalypse Edition', 10 Years Later

It has been more than ten years since Dying Light was released, but what happened to the $386,000 'My Apocalypse Edition' of the game?

jznrpg451d ago

Nobody bought it for an obvious reason.

Gamingsince1981451d ago

Wtf did this edition come with ? A real helicopter and a real zombie virus ?

Vithar451d ago

For one lucky person willing to spend $386,000, the My Apocalypse Edition of Dying Light promised a staggering collection. It included the buyer’s face in the game, a human-sized ‘Volatile’ statue, and parkour lessons with a freerunning team. It also came with night vision goggles, an all-expenses paid round trip to Techland’s offices, and four signed copies of the game. Oh, and it also came with a custom-built, ‘zombie-proof’ survival shelter.

LOL but it was a stunt from the team:
‘It was a PR stunt and got a lot of media attention for its wild and over-the-top nature, it was designed to generate buzz around the game’s release. It did a great job of getting the game noticed, though! But nobody purchased it – thankfully, I guess!’
