So Halo 5 MP is Basically COD in Space

TheArabGamer said: "So clearly there’s been a lot of debate about Halo 5! Topics such as the ADS and game style switching to a more eSports COD feel has been lingering on many fans. Well from what I played it’s pretty much true. Halo 5 plays a lot differently than any halo game before it. If Halo 4 was the slow transitioning to that COD atmosphere than it’s pretty clear that Halo 5 is now the game they were aiming for."

Game looks great

Nothing like COD though

The "likes" were all legitimate but the "dislikes" are kind of lame:

1) I "THINK" there may not be big maps but we don't know

2) I don't like the after-game animations where they give high fives (ya, that's a gameplay deal breaker)

3) Didn't get any alien weapons in the beta, but they may be coming in the actual game (no kidding)

4) Left trigger is for ADS not grenade (oh no halo has evolved)

5) Graphics are a mixed bag (really, a year before launch the graphics aren't perfect, lol)

RashBandicoot4152d ago

I guess it's perfect? Those were just my legitimate concerns. We obviously won't know until late next year but based from what I played they're clearly leaning more towards COD than classic Halo. Don't know if that's evolution really, but to each their own.

Wizard_King4151d ago (Edited 4151d ago )

I've been watching this one with interest and I'm looking more and more disappointed.

Call of Halo: Spartan Warfare to me

Gazondaily4151d ago

I'm sorry but your list of cons was terrible:

"Arena based levels means we probably won’t get a lot huge MP maps (not confirmed)"

What a load of bull. Do you know the third week has more BTB focus with the playlist switch?

"Heavy on the "bro" attitude with lots of player chatter such as "nade!""

Eh? Some of the callouts are useful particularly if you're playing with people with no microphone. Thats 'bro' attitude? What a silly point.

"No alien weapons"
What?? We've already seen forerunner light rifle in the beta trailer! Of course there will be alien weapons!

"ADS does make a difference despite 343 stating that there is no penalty for shooting from the hip."

There is no penalty. Ads boosts autos and remember, it's a beta so this will change.

"Left trigger is mapped to ADS in the default settings. I suppose this is meant to attract the new kids. "

Attract new kids? What? The control scheme has changed to match the new abilities including thrusters and evade l. Genius.

Sorry but this article is woeful. It tells me that (1) you don't get Halo at all (2) you're just regurgitating some points from others to justify the silly title of the article.

breakpad4151d ago (Edited 4151d ago )

Not only Halo 5 resembles trash COD but also resembles Halo 4 (in graphics ) ..MS just updated Halo 4 with ADS and speed reloading and named it Halo 5... also i dont understand why he find fast gameplay pacing as a pros, Halo is known for his more slow natural moving MP (fast pacing brings it closer even more to COD)

Volkama4151d ago

You can change the controls you know. ADS can be right stick just like it used to be.

Alien weapons are a certainty, big maps are highly likely, and graphics are clearly not the focus for the beta so that's a wait and see

Totally agree on the post-game US sportsman celebrations, those are awful.

Mega244151d ago

Every FPS wants to be CoD this days... Halo used to stand out since it came every three years and it was a great game with skills involved. I don't know now, since every publisher want CoD, every game leaning towards that Mountain Dew Dorito style of gameplay now. Even Killzone Shadowfall...

SolidStoner4151d ago

funny part is that New age modern jumping around with future guns COD already looks like HALO.. does this means that Halo 5 is little too late?

Gaming247allday4151d ago

C,mon now @TheArabGamer, we all know you just wanted a click bait headline

4151d ago
spicelicka4151d ago

Your arguments were horrible. If anything the new COD resembles halo. COD has always been a little slower, now it plays like halo.

In earlier CODs if u had to get on top of an object or building, u either took the stairs or climbed a ladder. Now you hop around from object to object justt like in halo. It never had laser and plasma weapons. Now the weapons shoot just like halo. COD AW has a lot of hip firing now, justt like in halo.

But I guess all that was ignored in the arguments.

SilentNegotiator4151d ago

I'm sick of seeing Halo lean towards COD, COD lean towards Halo, etc. Halo 3 and COD:MW are still the best games in the series because they were actually their own games with COMPLETELY separate visions.

4151d ago
u got owned4151d ago (Edited 4151d ago )

the game feels different but in a good way, its faster. Graphic I have to say Halo 2 Anniversary looks a bit better.

CYCLEGAMER4151d ago

One of the things that has kept me from enjoying halo (online mp) in the past is that it has always felt outdated and unorthodox to me. I don't see the problem with 343 updating halo's game mechanics. I am not in love with the Halo multi-player but it is better IMO.

BeefCurtains4151d ago

Or basically COD is Halo on earth... Only so much you can do with guns, rifles, first person, and killing the other team...

gangsta_red4151d ago

@MELMAN26

Lol, that is funny...I remember playing a lot of Halo in the past and then when CoD came out I instantly switched to that for a long time. I remember a while back i went back to Halo 3(?)because some old school friends were playing and I tried to RUN across the map...I then realized just how outdated that Halo really was.

I welcome the changes, they have to update Halo to compete.

user55757084151d ago

for everyone saying its not similar to call of duty...just play any halo since halo reach and find out you're wrong

halo 1, 2 and 3 were and still are the best

u4one4151d ago

Feels like halo to me but updated. Sure it borrows some similarities to the more recently designed COD but almost all FPS games do. I mean was every FPS game after Wolfenstein, Doom or Quake all criticized for having a similar feel? To me that's th definition of a genre. And gameplay mechanics follow classic Darwinism. The original halo was ground breaking for a console FPS. Twin stick movement, triggers, all that. But as more games followed suit and the design got refined, certain gameplay flows and mechanics started to appear and refine further eventually these become standard and expected. If halo used the same mechanics from the first one or 2, people would stop playing - ironically that is happening to COD for not evolving enough. I think people assume being a purist means you can't evolve and grow. I think that's also foolish. I say all of this not really being a big fan of halo or COD but recognizing that gameplay like fashion needs to change over time to keep up with said times.

TheFanboySlayer4151d ago

lol you were the author(TheArabGamer)....I feel bad for you because a lot of people will disagree...give it sometime before you post a review like piece...you should've done a first impressions..unless you've had it for a while now.

r1sh124150d ago (Edited 4150d ago )

dude whilst your opinion is completely valid, some of the points you made are literally pointless! (LMAO)

E.g - No alien weapons! LMAO, its beta they wont give away all the bag of tricks.
The alien weapons form the story, and the trailers online have shown it..
AND I played with the sword!!!

The bro attitude - its a graphic at the end of the game, in game shouting nade nade nade etc..
call outs man. If you played with good players that have mics you would know how important call outs are in game.

the controls are not a big issue.. Its easy to adapt and you could changed them back right?
Feels like small maps will be the only maps, cmon! This is 100% speculation based on a beta with a couple maps.

there is so much that is not cod though, and its strange to assume it is by focusin on the bro attitude and the in game call outs.
What the flying F man?

I know a lot of people will jump on the halo is cod bandwagon but its so not.
there are plenty of clear differences even though the cons make it sound like COD.
"Oh they moved ADS to left trigger copying COD"

StarLord_Who4151d ago

People are idiots, it feels like Halo still.

This is just one moron who is sulking and using the power of the internet to dry his tears.

That "bro" stuff isn't a COD thing, it's a gamer thing. It is them getting annoyed at their own lingo.

3-4-54151d ago

FACT = 4v4 leads to LESS cheap kills.

4v4 makes it so one person one a team can overcompensate for a bad player on your team.

The 4v4 compared to 6v6 or 9v9 of COD:AW will be noticeably different.

* I haven't played Halo 5, but the gameplay looks pretty fun to be honest.

I couldn't stand Halo 4...I thought it wasn't fun and the maps were designed terribly bland.

343 has a lot to prove, especially after the "iffy" Halo 4.

* The "COD" like qualities of Halo 5, are more so just things that have been updated into gaming in the past 5-10 years that we really like.

The Aiming makes the most sense......that NEEDED to happen eventually....if not Halo 5, then Halo 6.

Might as well get used to it now.

spicelicka4151d ago

I've been playing all day and it feels nothing like COD. Seriously the ADS is the same thing that we've been able to do with BRs and DMRs all this time, now with more weapons implementing it.

I switched the controls left trigger zoom to right stick zoom and it played like traditional halo.

Seriously any of you trolls don't like it then go play something else. If you want to keep it the same then play Masterchief collection. Play your heart out pleaseee, because if you want halo 5 to be the exact same thing then you might as well just play MCC.

showtimefolks4151d ago

I feel like halo reached its peak with Halo 3(even sales prove that) and since than they have been trying to play copy cat. Halo 4 was nothing special and even the single player story was like COD(4-5 hours long not making much sense)

say what you will about Bungie they knew how to reach out to halo fans(no pun intended)

343 has a stellar studios they have some of the best talent money can buy from around the world. They are like the Yankees and Dodgers combined yet not even making playoffs

Halo 5 better live up to the hype, but i have a feeling it will be more like COD. COD sells so every FPS tries to be COD simple as that

its_JEFF4151d ago

It's gonna be faster, there is just I way around it. If it's not "fast/quick" like COD, the most popular FPS on the market, it will get blasted by players saying that it is: sluggish, slow, leggy feeling. All things said about Killzone 2. I personally had no issues with KZ2s "weighty" feel, but people had gotten used to the speed and lightness of COD. So now KZ has "evolved" to be more COD like.

fitfox4151d ago

i wouldn't say "Nothing" like Cod

endi1234151d ago

They are releasing some new maps and modes every week till the beta ends on Jan 18. Lets hope we get a nice variety so we can get a good idea whats to come when the game releases. Cant wait to try this out this week.

RashBandicoot4152d ago

I'm really hoping for that too! Big maps like Valhalla are one of the many reasons I love Halo MP.

Elit3Nick4151d ago

we know there'll be Regret, which will play very similarly to Truth, Eden, which will be similar to Empire, and Crossfire, which is the map built for Breakout. But I hope for a map with at least a vehicle on both sides.

HeMan764151d ago

Lol another lame article trying to downplay this beauty. It has nothing to do CoD. This is what Halo always had to be with previous games. Calling it COD is nothing but ignorancy and insult. Please stop. Well done 343i you created the best Halo MP ever made. Please dont touch it.

Mechanism4151d ago

"Ignorancy" - a word that doesn't exist, how ironic.

ADS, jet-packs.. Most bro looking shooter to date from Halo, looks like any other shooter to me with red plasticine dolls running around.

Early days though, these maps look boring, but I suspect they will have some larger cool ones. They will obviously have more interesting weapons upon launch too.

Nothing separates this example of Halo 5 from any other shooter to me now.

Zeref4151d ago

Dude Halo had jetpacks before titanfall, killzone and COD.

And ADS is just an option you can easily change button layout so you don't even have to use it. It doesn't give any advantage at all.

kpat19824151d ago (Edited 4151d ago )

Where I agree the article is pretty poor, there is no way you can say that Halo 5 has the best Halo mp ever made before it's even released.

Edit.

For those who disagree can you please compare all of the new maps on Halo 5 to the following Halo classics.

Blood Gulch
Hang 'Em High
Ivory Tower
Lockout
Ascension
Last Resort
The Pit
Battle Creek
Exile
Guardian

This should be an easy task for some people who have clearly been able to get a hold of the full Halo 5 game and pour the hundreds of hours into it that I have with the previous titles

DigitalRaptor4151d ago

Why am I not surprised by the apologist of the century?

How about you watch this video from a REAL and honest Halo fan that calls out Halo 4 for what it is, and shows equal genuine concerns for Halo 5 since the incompetent 343I in in charge of the game? https://www.youtube.com/wat...

gangsta_red4151d ago

So your link to this "REAL" and "honest" Halo fan is more genuine then Heman's own opinion of 343i and their work on Halo and Halo 5?

And he's an apologist!? The irony of that is so mind bending that i can't even begin to understand.

Yea, Sorry Digital, but somehow I just can't believe with you being a Sony defender and apologist yourself has to say or any link about MS and their games serious.

DigitalRaptor4150d ago (Edited 4150d ago )

Yes, precisely. This video is taken from a person who isn't a fanboy. Did you even watch it? The guy is a real Halo fan, very fun to listen to and makes some incredibly strong, intelligent points about the direction in which 343i are taking Halo.

Right there is a person that knows 343i have proven themselves to be an incompetent studio to handle the Halo brand. A studio that is taking the legacy that Bungie established in the first trilogy and flushing it down the toilet ever since Halo 4, due to them chasing a more casual audience with as the dude put it "magic tricks", rather than enhancing the skill gap, and being generally incompetent, and being required to work on about 4 or 5 different sub-par Halo projects at once rather than focusing their attention on the game that NEEDS their all.

HeMan76 is indeed an apologist that will say anything to make the latest game in the Halo series seem like the best regardless of genuine issues and genuine facts, that have been acknowledged numerous times by others.

Your opinion on my behaviour doesn't matter. I have accepted that Uncharted 3 was not as good as Uncharted 2, for example. HeMan76 will NEVER accept potential problems or inferiority or simplification or "casualisation" of Microsoft's golden goose, even if the facts are implanted directly into his brain.

Clown_Syndr0me4151d ago

So Uncharted is just Tomb Raider with a male lead?
No. Flame bait article.

PrinceOfAllSaiyans4151d ago (Edited 4151d ago )

Uncharted is nothing like the old Tomb Raiders. The new TR basically copied Uncharted.

OT- I'm not a fan of 343 at all. Halo 4 was shit, they messed up a damn remaster, and Halo 5 looks like COD AW and Titanfall did the fusion ttechnique. Or maybe its just because I don't care for FPS' anymore. But pre 343 Halo was some of my favorite games of all time. And 343 ruined that for me.

Halo art director leaves studio after 17 years with ominous message alluding to discontent

Glenn Israel writes: "As of today and after seventeen long years, I am officially no longer contributing to the Halo universe. There is little more I can say for the moment, though I intend to share this particular story in its entirety when it is absolutely safe to do so next year. In the meantime, I have a message for anyone and everyone who needs to hear it.

I know that the state of our industry seems dire, but never forget that you are *free to choose*. No illusion of security nor promise of wealth or fame or power is worth trading away your health, your dignity, your ethics or values - and no one can force you to. VenomUK212d ago

I’m really disappointed to learn there are still people/morale problems. I thought the whole point of rebranding 343i to Halo Studios was to signal that real changes had been made - not to cynically rebrand to paper over the problems.

I really hope the Halo CE remake is great and gets people hyped for the future of the series.

DarXyde212d ago

It's inevitable with the modern landscape. Even if some issues have been assuaged, new ones crop up all the time.

I'm willing to bet AI and the lack of regulation is causing substantial upset.

He said something very marking . We tend to complain a lot about the industry but deep down I realize that we never have we been offered this crazy amount of games all available for you to play now . You can literally play any sorts of games in 2025 . Nobody is forcing you to buy the latest COD or the latest BF . You’re more of a 8 bit cozy gaming guy there’s a whole niche of modern games for that . You like micromanaging there’s games for that . I feel like we have been spoiled so much we just stopped being realistic and thinking for ourselves . We follow trends cry about stuff online when you are the buyer you have the power .

Halo 4 & Halo 5: Guardians Sales Reached Nearly 10 Million Units Worldwide

There were reports that Halo 4 and Halo 5 had similar sales to Halo: Reach years ago. The clickbait websites and rage bait YouTubers from 2012-2016 just wanted to spread excessive negativity about the franchise for their own benefit.

VenomUK302d ago

What did Halo: Infinite sell?

Sciurus_vulgaris302d ago

I don’t know. However, I would assume around 10 million. All the Halo FPS titles have done around 10 million sales, except ODST. Halo 3, was reported to exceed 14 million copies. I still remember back in 2007-2008, Halo 3 and COD 4 would duke it out for the most played XBL game.

MrNinosan301d ago

@Sciurus

There is NO WAY Infinite sold 10 million. Wake up dude.
Once upon a time, there was gamers on the Xbox side who actually bought games. Those times are since long gone.

Infinite has most likely not even hit 5 million sales

@thesoftware720
I apologize I skimmed through the article and the headline blinded me and stuck in my mind thank you for the correction 👍👍

AuraAbjure301d ago (Edited 301d ago )

Halo 4 is the best multiplayer ever! It’s even better than Titanfall 2. I admit Halo 4 got CoDified but there’s nothing wrong with taking inspiration from other games sometimes and halo 4 did it sooooo well with that speed boost plus sword combo and SAW plus damage booth combo, holy guacamole 🥑

Some crucial improvements to halo 4 could’ve been to boost the power of the AA sentinel, and whenever matchmaking pits people against each other with an armor abilities turned off completely then the map needs to routinely spawn, plentiful, predictable, power weapons. Also, all frame rate drops are unacceptable for a halo game during split-split screen or couch co-op. Just dynamically scale the resolution of the game down but whatever happens don’t let the framer dip in a Halo game for the love of all that is holy and good!

My personal gameplay of getting 30 kills in a 4 v. 4 game of team slayer up to 60.

Halo 5 dev recalls the “frustrating” marketing that misrepresented the series’ most-hated entry

Halo 5: Guardians lead concept artist Darren Bacon explains that the game's marketing was completely seperate to the game's development.

videogamer.com
FortWaba382d ago (Edited 382d ago )

No issue with the marketing. The story was complete garbage.

-Foxtrot382d ago

The marketing wasn't the issue, it just felt 343 were so bothered about getting Halo away from being known as a Bungie franchise that they tried to introduce so many changes to counter this.

It felt like they were trying to replace Chief as a character thus the big push on Agent Locke (he even got his own mini series). Chief was even in less missions in comparison.

Introduced squads which forced single player gamers to be paired up with 3 AI players over drop in / drop out co-op.

Cortana was butchered, ruining that relationship between Chief and Cortana we all liked. Would have been fine if the twist was the Didact was secretly controlling her or something but nothing. Did she come back in Infinite? Nope. Killed off screen in a sudden 180 to her villainous turn and replaced by a copy since they knew they screwed up.

Expected you to have read all the novels and the like to understand who Blue Team were and their relationship to Chief, had no build up to the characters and it felt like they expected you to like them without it being earned.

Everything they did felt like change for the sake of change, to mark it was a 343 game not a Bungie one and it's hilarious as they tried to f*** around with the multiplayer in Halo 4 to make it their own before reverting things in Guardians.

darthv72382d ago

I didnt mind the switching off between John and Locke... it reminded me of Halo 2 and having the Arbiter levels to trade off to.

The story was okay for me. They had to do something different as the first three games were done and there needed to be new story going in a new direction. I get the die hard fans may not have liked it, but playing it for what it is... its perfectly fine. Its a continuation of halo 4, which itself was a nice original take on the formula.

Now bring on the disagrees.

cl1983382d ago

It reminded me of Halo 2 and I honestly dislike the switching in 2 and 5. The devs should of just had cuts scenes for the Arbiter and for Locke.

Elit3Nick382d ago

Booting the ur-Didact from the games was one of the greatest narrative mistakes they made (after bringing back a logic-plagued Cortana, of course). Even if you had to read the Forerunner novels to understand his history, he was one of the most complex characters in the series, and he should have remained as an enduring part of the universe.

I'm happy that he at least got a send-off in Halo: Epitaph, but it shouldn't have gotten to that point.

XiNatsuDragnel382d ago

No issues it's just wasn't good story at least my friend it wasn't well written.

Tacoboto382d ago

Yeah it says a lot about the management of 343 at the time that they could have a marketing campaign be so disconnected in tone and story from the game it's supposed to be about.

I'd imagine it would be frustrating for the developers that the marketing beats seemed far cooler than what you were stuck making. Maybe it would've been better if 343 just continued the story from their previous game but nooo they couldn't be bothered to do that even once

entra80382d ago

its the worst halo game the story the map all was garbage

cl1983382d ago

I'd like to introduce you to Halo infinite.

coolbeans381d ago

You are off your damn rocker if you think Infinite's story is worse than 5's. Just by cleaning up 5's worse elements off-screen makes it a default improvement.

PhillyDonJawn381d ago (Edited 381d ago )

Campaign wise Halo infinite was better due to setting. (Open world, different approaches, setting and mission tasks)

story wise Halo 5 was better. Infinite was literally all over the place. It's like they scrapped the OG story and tried to piece some sht together. They unalived important ppl off screen!!! (Spoiler free) Ruining the main plot of Halo 5 and infinite like wth!!! That alone made the "story" worse than 5. They have to reboot the series now or pull some story where these characters are still alive. (I believe the end reveals 1 is.)

@Beans i disagree with that last statement doing it off screen when that was the main plot and a huge deal is the wrong move. We legit should've got a boss battle that did that. It seem so unsatisfying and anticlimactic. We were suppose to get an IRobot/terminator type of ending and instead we get some off screen sht 😒 We couldve had Halo 4 level emotion, instead it was done as filler

cl1983381d ago (Edited 381d ago )

@Coolbeans and @phillydonjawn

Infinites story was so disjointed due to the level design. It wasn't and in my opinion still not replay able. It felt worse then the ending to Starfield.

I'm saying this as a person who's still going through playing the MCC to finish out playlists, and has Ten's of Thousands of hours in Halo since CE.

Tacoboto381d ago

The literal ending to Starfield or the closing missions? Because some of those missions were actually pretty great in my opinion. Especially Entangled.

Halo 5 had a worse story I felt than Infinite but I agree on its lack of replayability. The single PNW biome is tiring and everything not green and foresty outside is metallic and reflective inside.

Multiplayer is solid but lags behind 5 too I feel. At least it still does get some new content even as they're openly abandoning Infinite's tech for UE.

Notellin302d ago

Halo Infinite and Halo 5 both had equally bad stories that completely ignored the previous entry. There's nothing to redeem from either game. The best thing for Halo is to do reboot, let that fail, and then end the series forever.
