VR vs. Oculus Rift in 2014

Both Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) and Samsung have made encouraging first steps into the virtual reality (VR) industry this year with the Project Morpheus and Gear VR head-mounted displays (HMD) respectively. But while these two companies have helped the industry grow, no one can deny that it’s still Oculus VR and its Oculus Rift that is leading the charge and waving the flag for the arrival of this once-fantasy technology. Even without the release of a consumer HMD, it’s been a banner year for Oculus VR in many ways.

I hope 2015 is the year of VR.

im not getting the oculus rift simply because its owned by facebook now. I'll be getting the sony or samsung one day one though, which ever comes first.

Seeing as the Samsung 'Gear VR' exists because of collaboration with Oculus/Facebook, I suppose you'll have to drop that one as an option too?

An alternative action might be to throw subjectivity to the wind and instead decide by objectively weighing up either product's price, quality, support, etc., come release date. You'd have more to gain and less to lose doing it this way, no?

I think people not buying because Facebook buying them is bunch of crap. If u do your research u can see there vision hasn't changed before Facebook bought them out. Instead they get 2 billion dollars that give them a lot of resources to make a better product. U got high end developers that quit there job to work for them now. One of them is John Carmack which is a well known programmer that worked at I'd software almost all his career.

And also guess your not buying Samsung vr glasses because it was also made by oculus.

I think that Facebook and Sony, and apparently Microsoft need to work together to really advertise this tech. I don't want to see it become some temp fad. Or a one off niche product.

there are some great Oculus hands on video reviews at portal of awesome...

This title confuses me... Can someone please explain how VR and Oculus Rift are not the same concept?

It's a regular feature series on VRFocus about how each aspect of VR - hardware, software, publishers etc. - work for or against the whole. This edition concentrates on the Oculus Rift's performance in 2014.

Are a bunch of games, some of which are nearly 10 years old not one being from 2026. Barely one from 2025.

I do like the irony of the closing paragraph though, "Why VR Adventure Games are Thriving". Really buddy?

mooreneco2131d ago

That’s because it’s his favourite VR adventure games thus far, a great game always a great game regardless of age - Half life 2/ Ocarina of time - are old but still among the greatest games of all time. The irony of it is several are from last year, depending on platform, have you even played VR?
