Preorder 'Dying Light' sooner, get more stuff

For those on the fence toward Techland’s upcoming zombie smasher, the developer has revealed a new campaign to tip you on to those bloody yet greener pastures. Techland is rewarding Dying Light preorders, both preexisting and those leading to the games release, with access to some rare in-game weapons and gear.

I wonder if these kinds of incentives to pre-order games will start a trend?

JoeMcCallister4176d ago

Fair question, I hope Ubisoft doesn't start thinking this is a great idea, but for games I know I want like GTA/Witcher/Dragon Age - I would gladly put the money down well in advance to get more stuff.

nX4175d ago

Yes Ubisoft shouldn't dare to start this... but for Dying Light I don't have a problem with it, I've preordered it last month already because it's looking very fun and polished.

Palitera4176d ago (Edited 4176d ago )

It's not an incentive. It is a full game that you'll be receiving.
Don't preorder and you won't get the full game.

This time the s*** is serious: nothing less than the PvP mode is locked behind the blind purchase.

Yay, Deep Silver and Techland. I'll buy it, surely, but will split my buy between three people. Doubt you'll profit on us. :D

If only I had the option to pirate the game and don't give you a cent for this scheme...

starrman19854175d ago

So wait, now we have pre-order pre-order bonuses?

I remember Call of Duty Black Ops 2 doing the same thing once with GameStop. I can see it trending.

This is getting ridiculous. Why are games the only consumer goods in which we're expected to purchase before there's even a product available?! Stupid publishers and their precious pre-order numbers. Gotta keep those stockholders happy!

Palitera4175d ago

It is their biggest chance to sell crappy games, which are the vast majority of AAA releases.

JoeMcCallister4175d ago

I remember Best Buy trying to get movie preorders going, seemed like either the general consumer saw past it, or movies just didn't have the same value to people. Either way, I haven't seen anything from anywhere else asking me to put down my $20 for the extended special limited tin box Bluray for a while now.

hiredhelp4175d ago

How about you dont give us incentives just a great game that be more than enough for a buy.
Lets go old school les unlock rewards fun stuff for completing games ect like fun cheats or costumes or this game awsome mega weapons..

Pre ordering games, I think i'd rather miss out on the extras and wait for some reviews, thanks tho

I knew holding off playing it for 10 years was the right call.

I remember playing this for the first time on the PS4 and it knocking me sick and hurting my eyes due to the horrible motion blur and FPS.

Played it a lot on pc a year later. Then again on ps5 once they dropped the 60fps update. I'll be giving it another go. Mad how they have kept updating this game for 10 years.

Ten Years Later - Still Going Strong: Dying Light: Retouched Update Releasing June 26

Hey Survivors! Tymon here, your favorite Dying Light Franchise Director.

It's been an absolutely wild month here at Techland! We're in the thick of what I'm calling the "Summer of Dying Light," delivering updates and big news across all three Dying Light games. Just a few weeks ago, we dropped the first gameplay for Dying Light: The Beast, revealed its release date, and kicked off pre-orders (if you haven't seen it, check out my last dev blog). I'm incredibly proud of what we're building with The Beast - it’s the culmination of more than 10 years of experience in open-world survival horror!

But here's the thing: we never forget where we came from. That's why, this week, we're not just looking forward - we're rolling out significant updates for both the original Dying Light and Dying Light 2: Stay Human. We promised to support our games for a long time, and we're committed to continuing that support, right through and beyond the launch of Dying Light: The Beast.

Looking Back At The $386,000 Dying Light 'My Apocalypse Edition', 10 Years Later

Nobody bought it for an obvious reason.

Gamingsince1981451d ago

Wtf did this edition come with ? A real helicopter and a real zombie virus ?

Vithar451d ago

For one lucky person willing to spend $386,000, the My Apocalypse Edition of Dying Light promised a staggering collection. It included the buyer’s face in the game, a human-sized ‘Volatile’ statue, and parkour lessons with a freerunning team. It also came with night vision goggles, an all-expenses paid round trip to Techland’s offices, and four signed copies of the game. Oh, and it also came with a custom-built, ‘zombie-proof’ survival shelter.

LOL but it was a stunt from the team:
‘It was a PR stunt and got a lot of media attention for its wild and over-the-top nature, it was designed to generate buzz around the game’s release. It did a great job of getting the game noticed, though! But nobody purchased it – thankfully, I guess!’
