I have my 360 all set up. I have played some really good games off-line. I just refuse to pay to play when I have already forked out $60.00 for a game.

Now with Sony and it's PS3 matching most of Live, and surpassing in some areas (Trophies), I cant see Microsoft keeping this $50 a year crap.

There is nothing wrong with a free service, it's perfect for those gamers that play one or two games online. But Live is for more hardcore online gamers that need 80% of our games with somthing online. If you look at the library of games for both systems, you can see that the 360's target is the online gamer, because almost every game that comes out is online. When I log onto Live I go through all my messages and send voice mail or private chat friends. Sometimes it has nothing to do with the game I'm playing, last night I was playing Battlefield BC and talking to a frind in Canada who was watching a movie. The 360 just screams Live and that is MS goal, to connect everyone. The PSN is free and it is online but it's not Live, Sony knows this, thats why Sony is trying to make PSN like Live.

yes PSN is superior to Xbox LIVE , offering unmatched , lag free , online experience and content only on PS3 , Xbox LIVE will truly die with the release of HOME soon

I know a lot of people throw around the whole psn is free thing but the way I look at it is this. And I am by no means defending xblive but when I had the 360 I never minded paying the 13 cents a day for the service. I used it quite a bit, it always worked with no problems and it had some really cool features. I can see $50 a year being a lot for a kid, but it was never a problem for me. And i make a little over six bucks an hour and live on my own. I never went hungry because of paying for the live service.

When I got the rrod and switched systems though, learning that everything on psn is free...(other than the obvious things you have to pay for) I couldn't believe it though.

I think psn is a fantastic service and can't wait for it to feel seamless like the live service did. That is truly when psn will be able to overtake live is when we're chatting w/ friends, downloading games, texting, and playing online with all features working seamless.

Here's to 2.40.

Now that 2.4 came out it ties with Xbl. Hmm, will we see Microsoft take off the charge for Xbl?

ok that has nothing to do with the feature in itself but sony so that should've went to sony but whatever. the only strong point that the 360 has really shined is definetely closing. video download service is coming to the ps3 this summer and the ps3 download service will undoubtedly be the better service since sony is a major movie company anyway.

and the features that live still has over psn will really be squashed in my opionion when home comes out. (and i still get the hint that most the people on this site really dont know just what home can do because there the same ignorant people who say its a "second life clone"

i still do not see it that way! ms is one of the richest companies in the world, they had bill gates money to spend and they still making u pay for online gaming and services, dont u think ms can afford to make live free if they can can aford to pay take2 50 million to have just a download content, im not saying live is not good all i am saying is that this gen should not let u pay to play online, i mean as soon as u have internet and a hd console u are set to go onine but in ms case u have to first pay then go online,.. i think that is just greed and wanting more money.

How can you say that Achievements and Trophies are a tie when %70 of games are compatible with it but none are guaranteed to support it on PSN. Then you have to go back and replay your games for those trophies to register. With XBL every single game has achievements from retail titles to arcade games.

I love that they make this comparison now and give Sony a free pass on the future of it's video download service. Nobody knows what it will be like. Right now XBL offers hundreds of movies and TV show's. It's been a proven success and is available now.

You can't even do cross game messaging with 2.4 while you've been able to do it since day 1 on the 360.

Little things like "recommend a game to a friend" on XBL are little differences that are useful features. They make no mention of things like XBL Creators Club where aspiring dev's can make arcade titles and have them available for the public to buy. Then you have the whole MSN integration and web integration where I can send messages/invites/recommend games check my friends list and compare against any XBL user all thru the web.

The matchmaking system is built-in to Live while on the PS3 it is left up to the developers. There is no TrueSkill matchmaking on PSN and everyone is thrown into one group unless the developers do something themselves.

The 360 get's 2 new arcade games a week. PSN is lucky to get 1 new PSN title a month.

No mention of Xbox Originals which is growing all the time.

This sounds more like someone who wants XBL to be free which it will never be. If it did you would see it turn into something like Qore where you are forced to sit thru Burger King Whopper ad's. Any advertising on the 360 is either tied to a gaming promotion or offer's up something free to the user like Themes and Gamerpics and usually tied to 360/game promotion.

Like I said amatuer analysis and obviously someone who is hyped up for 2.4 and is losing his objectivity.

I don't know which one will be the best when the new PS3 firmware arrives, but since the PSNetwork is FREE, it'll be better to use the PSNetwork and the PS3.

Firmware updates are a plus? Sony has dominated the console market for well over a decade and it has taken their latest entry 18 months to finally start implementing the features people want and this is a positive? That's actually kinda funny. I'm all for improving the system via firmware updates, but I don't think it's a great excuse for coming out with a half assed online ar launch. Sony has had 2 and 1/2 years since the Xbox 360's launch to come up with something. I'm not impressed at their time tables.

How will PSN have all the features of Live with 2.40? Will it have voice messages? No. Will it have cross game invites? No. Will it have a complete achievement system with a gamerscore to track it? No. It will use an "RPG" like replacement in place of a number. It's similar atleast, but the trophy system will be optional for devs and not fully compatible with all games. Will PSN have custom soundtrack support for all games? Again, no, but you will be able to play your music while playing some games by accessing it in the XMB which is finally available in game. How about PSN using one account for all games instead of having a different account for every developer? If their latest flagship title is any indication that isn't here yet either.

2.40 will be the most visual firmware update yet and a hint at hopefully what is to come, but it will not be on par with Live. The Xbox 360 is most likely half way through it's lifecycle and PSN isn't a true competitor to Live. How long will it take and will it be this generation of consoles? At the rate Sony is going, no. The one thing that Sony has going for it is PSN is still free.

It will only be a certain amount of time before others realize that PSN is "FREE" And that it offers the same features that of XBL and that it also offers a "FREE" HD 3D Community called Home. And when people realize that, MSFT and its XBL is SCREWED!

If you play both, you would obviously know the only thing Xbox Live vastly excels at over PSN is music videos and movie selection (2.4 covers most everything else). Microsoft isn't stupid and they will find a way to counter PSN so called momentum. Still PSN wont have mic support like the 360. the thing that bothers me the most about this post is how they GAVE the PSN the win overall when many PS3 features aren't even here yet!! WHEN sony releases its video service(xbox already has it) xbox already has cross game chat, private chat, voice messages, I can even send a text message to a friend online to his 360 FROM my PC. where is my PS3 web site were I can track all my friends an games game scores an keep track of my account!! then PSN is no doubt getting BETTER but to say after the update its gonna match or be better than live is crazy!!

an besides the only thing you pay for on XBL is the right for online gaming,to connect to another online player. you dont have to pay to send messages,chat, play custom soundtracks, or download videos,movies,demos. I have 2 360's (1 for the kids) an all they have is a silver account an they can do EVERYTHING i can do other than play games online an maybe wait a week to download certain demos thats timed exclusive to gold members!!

for me the PSN just isnt as fluid as XBL an whats with having to sign up or agree to terms of service with EVERY online game on the PSN. I can never just jump into a game, I must read an agree to the terms BEFORE im allowed to play online. on the 360 its just select online an jump right in!!

who said there is no debate is an idiot. Second, I personally prefer the trophy system with the leveling up better than just a number; but that is preference. Also, maybe the PS3 should've had this from launch, but the 360 shouldv'e had an internet browser (considering it is by MS), and it doesn't. PSN may not have all the same features as Live now, but it has most, and being free is a giant plus. Also, some features are better now on the PSN, such as the in game music controls. At least SONY is trying to improve their system with updates, and they're not even done yet; HOME is on the way. What has the 360 done the past couple of years? Also, it's dumb to say that SONY is just copying XBOX; PC's have had many online functions for years; also, you can accuse the XBOX of ripping the Dreamcast which had online and other features. Also, Playstation originals had achievements (ratchet and clank, Spyro, etc.); and these were years before XBOX every existed, so did MS just copy all of them?????????

everyone barking on about how PSN is free and XBL costs. But then my PS3 cost more than the 360 and so did all the games and accessories. Have i paid for the PSN another way? Arent they going to start charging for demos soon?

Anyway i still think XBL is better, mainly coz my friends are on it and we use more of the features than i would on PSN. PLus there are better demos and betas on XBL and the arcade is better than downloading PS1 games, because they all have to have online play included.

no matter what both systems have there own advantages. its just that ps3 is free while 360 charges im sure in the near future MS will drop their price on live in the next couple of months.

360 is a dying ship, psn updating all the time, has so much more to offer then live.

You won't get much at e3 for 360, it'll be gears gears gears.

There are tons upon tons of games that will rock you at E3 for PS3.

I'm a PS3 owner and I don't necessarily agree with Microsoft charging subscription fees, but I think if I had an xbox that 50 dollars a year wouldn't bother me in the least. That kind of money wouldn't even pay for a meal for two in a restaurant..its a fairly insignificant amount at the end of the day and it wouldn't push me to the competition if I was happy with the service.

i have both 360 and ps3 and im sick of the lag on 360 when playing online. i get hardly any lag on ps3. ps3 is my home for online games. this isnt a dis at 360 its just how i feel.

please learn what your talking about, Sony is giving us great hardware at their own cost. They lose money on every ps3 sale because they are selling it so cheap, The amount of hardware in the ps3 is insane for the price. unless you have the bum core x-box, the cost for X-box owners to get what ps3 has cost more. you payed for online in another way, not even close kid.

The crown is now up in the air as to who is better. Sure the PSN is not completely up to par with Live but the PSN is FREE so it evens things up. If Live were free, it would be king still but with 2.40, Sony trumps Live and they offer their online for free. With games playing great online with the PSN, there is no excuse as to why Live costs 50 bucks still.

PSN is making improvements, but the problem with this article, is that most of it is based on a video...We don't know how it is ACTUALLY implemented into the games and system. XBL isn't just about features, it's about connectivity and ease of use as well. Not to mention that in game voice messaging/cross game chat is something I use WAY more than in game texting, which, in fact, I don't use at all.

Of course I only say this based on things I've actually experienced, which is rational...But that won't stop tons of fanboys who have either not experienced both or are just hanging on with faith from disagreeing with me.

i have both, tho i only have live cuz my boss paid for it.

the only thing live has over psn is ingame chat. thats it, and i dont wanna pay 50 a year for ingame chat. screw that. psn is 100% free, and is offering movies and blah blah blah.

Who actually cares, I am a PS3 owner and I think PSN does everything for me, my Nephew has a 360 and Live does everything for him, plus both systems will improve with extra addition content in the future like movie downloads, Home etc. I hate these threads, just enjoy your system or systems. Both consoles are future proof for there duration until next gen (720 or PS4) who cares.

The PSN is taking all of the XBL Features makes it 10X better and gives them for free online.
Sony has the advantage and XBL needs to get a major price cut if it ever hopes to compete with the PS3 for online gaming.

i bought a 360 in may and since then ive spent like £500 which isnt a good thing. on day one i spent like £300 because i bought 360 premium with lost odyseey and halo3 bundled for £230 then i bought a wireless adapter so i could connect to live £50 and i also bought gears of war £20 o yeh and a second controller none wireless £20. so on day one i spent £320. which i werent too happy spending but i wanted a 360 that could connect to live.

i didnt realise tilll i got home that is £40 a year for live or £60 a year if you cant afford to pay in one chunk. i fot the subscription was cheaper than that and i fought you would get gamer pics and themes for free but that costs me money aswell.

Bascially what im trying to say here is 360 costs too much i know people say its ps3 that costs too much but it isnt. to get a 360 premium 20gb three games on xbox live (with wireless) it costs £300. that is the same as the ps3 in price and the ps3 comes with games aswell usually. but dont forget about the live subscription.

What i think is that if micorsoft stop charging for everything live might be superior to psn but somehow i cant even see a price cut on live.

it up and puts a lot more PS1 games and original games, and movies on the PSN store they will come close to being equal but until then I think Live still has the edge.

I hope after this update, M$ raise the price of XBL to $100. You know. Just for laughs.

I'm not gonna argue sides but ppl have to realize that if PSN gets closer to XBL's features XBL could end up free or cheaper. Not because it sux but because of competition. I'm a sony player and I admit I'm little envious of the niceness of live. but there are lots of things that arent that serious. Its not like PSN is some deformed mutant anyway so free,fuctional and constantly evolving is the ticket for me. All in all things are gettin better and better for gamers so no reason to get all pissy.

Oh please! Xbox live kills PSN's slow service. First off updates are a good thing? Since when is turning on your console to have to wait to do anything like every few weeks a good thing? Sony only releases so many firmware updates because they're so far BEHIND Live. Microsoft tweaks when necessary, people who are ahead don't change as much. plus their is no trophies yet, only achievements. oh god who cares nevermind.

Shouldn't we wait till 2.4 is released before saying psn is better. For me live is much much better and until home gets released i don't see that changing. And as far as pricing goes live has so many more demos and downloads and an all together more user friendly set up. I have both consoles but at the moment live is better and am happy to pay for it providing it stays that way.

He says PSN is slower, but when I download from PSN on my 15Mb connection, I'm definitely getting more than 1MB per second, which means I'm getting at least a 10Mb download speed at any given time. Considering overhead and whatever, I'd consider that more or less maxing out my connection. And this seems to be consistent no matter when I'm downloading, even peak hours.

I've heard some PS3 users though state that they couldn't get speeds like this, even when other PCs and/or XBOXs in the house were able to download at higher speeds. This is somewhat of a mystery... I wonder if there are certain areas in the country that just don't have backbones with efficient routes to Sony's servers. Very possible.

The hardcore XBL supporters have been reduced to saying "Well XBL will always be better!", but have absolutely nothing to back it up.

On a more serious note, XBL vs. PSN is just stupid flamebait---and boy did some of you kids bite, and bite hard.

But yeah PSN is slowly catching up to XBL, as far as features. The Features are probably still easier to use on XBL(imo). But you also gotta consider download speeds, and the reliability of the networks. XBL is WAY more reliable than PSN, and anyone who argues otherwise probably hasnt spent much time on both. You get what you pay for. I've heard this all my life, and have seen people say it a few ime here as well. Guess what? Its true.

As far as saying things like, "Sony is catching up and all MS can do is a price drop"---um, first of all the only way Sony finally started to sell consoles, was after they dropped the price last fall. Now sure, MS hasnt really added any NEW features to XBL this year---but when you have an Online Interface like XBL has, there isnt a whole lot more to add. I'm sure as soon as something new hits XBL, the Sony Fannies will say, "Oh thats stupid". But then they will be excited when Sony promises to deliver it to them on PSN(but it will probably be delayed till 2011 or 2012).

PSN isnt terrible. Hell I cant complain, I'm not paying for it. But I'm not gonna praise Sony for getting their sh*t together. Should have done that when you offered a 600 dollar blu-ray player to the gaming world. MS did it from the start, why couldnt Sony?
