Tencent game being sued by Sony quietly purges most Horizon-like content from its Steam page

It looks very much like Tencent does not want to tangle with Sony on this one.

Good! The Chinese need to stop stealing Trademark and Copyrighted IP!

Levii_92286d ago

Why would anyone want to copy one of the most boring and blandest video game franchises ever anyway.

1Victor286d ago

Well the why is simple they asked to collab on using the franchise and when denied like a caren couldn’t handle a NO so copy revenge it is

P_Bomb286d ago

Because your opinion doesn’t matter as much as you think it does? 🤷🏻

neutralgamer1992286d ago

38 million copies sold. Boring doesn't sell 38 million times

Flenter286d ago

Hahaha, no. That honor goes to Starfield. Not a franchise but oke.

lukasmain286d ago

Franchise has sold close to 40 million. Is critcally acclaimed. Maybe that's why

andy85286d ago

Yawn. It'd an outstanding series. HZD was one of the most innovative games out there on release. Forbidden west wasn't as great but boring and bland? 😂😂😂 anything but.

I thought from a video I watched saying that Sony and Tencent was working together to put out a Horizon game in China. But Sony backed out of deal for some reason. But not sure ?

shinXseijuro286d ago

I don’t remember hearing about this one but I wouldn’t be surprised there’s a bunch of Japanese and American IPs who are being used for games only available over there

Disccordia286d ago

Not quite - Tencent started working on it with the idea of pitching it to Sony. Ordinarily, Sony would have likely said yes, however they already have a Live Service game in development at Guerrila in addition to the Horizon MMO in development at NetEase. Seemingly, after getting the No, they've decided to just crack on with it anyway which is quite the bold move.

I imagine Tencent will need to make dramatic changes to the characters designs but outside of the art assets, the game doesn't share much in common with HZO or HFW - it's a live service survival game/minigames type thing. Of course, Sony are well within their rights to sue regardless of how the project first started.

Wuchang is clearly a soulslike but it has its own art style and slight twist on gameplay. That’s respectable to me. That should be the minimum. But when someone clearly ripsoff every aspect of a game I don’t care who made it I won’t buy it and they should have legal problems. Why not put the extra effort to make it clearly your own when you are spending so much time and money to begin with? It can be similar and still be your own. But this isn’t a Horizon-like it’s clearly a ripoff.
