Performance Optimizations Currently Being Tested For Assassin's Creed: Unity

Ubisoft Live Updates Team: "Though crowd size was something we looked at extensively pre-launch, it is something we continue to keep a close eye on. We have just finished a new round of tests on crowd size but have found it is not linked to this problem and does not improve frame rate, so we will be leaving crowds as they are."

So it seems that the abysmal framerate was nothing to do the amount of on-screen NPCs whatsoever. Nor is it anything to do with either console having a CPU bottleneck. Just plain old shoddy developing.

Funny, because I was told my multiple Xbox fans on here that the reason the PS4's framerate was so low was because it's CPU is weaker than the X1's and it couldn't handle all of those next-gen NPC's. Lol. So much for that.

Well, this game has a lot more going on than massive crowds. It's a very cutting edge game in most of it's graphical makeup. It's personally the best looking game I've ever played on my PC or PS4.

I also wonder why the Rift sections run so much better if the NPCs aren't affecting framerate. Those sections don't have the large number of NPCs and they run a lot smoother. So I'm not quite convinced.

In any case, the fact that reducing the number of NPCs doesn't give them a framerate boost doesn't mean that those NPCs aren't demanding or that they don't have a rendering cost. It just means that the bottleneck is somewhere else. It means that other aspects of the graphics are the more limiting factors.

why they didn't do this before releasing the game? This is ridiculous.

Because Ubisoft care more about filling their pockets than they do giving their paying customers a quality product.

The classic 'release now, fix later' approach. Can't wait to play my *used* copies of FC4 and AC:U.

Honestly how did Ubisoft stoop so low, not so long ago they were one of the most respected companies and now they decide to do all this BS and alienate a decent chunk of their fanbase

They are saying that apparently pre-launch it wasn't like this.

"We can tell you that we have detected a distinct discrepancy between what we observed in the pre-launch versus post-launch environment."

Don't know what to believe though.

This is what you get for being so greedy Ubisoft.

Money is the root of all evil!

Release a patch for 1080p for ps4 too.

skulz74194d ago

No the game has the prettiest open world I have ever seen, its the frame rate that's the problem. Increasing it to 1080p would make the frame rate even worse.

Its funny, before the launch people were complaining about the game getting a graphical downgrade, but once people started playing they realised the graphics were incredible, but the frame rate was the problem.

I can't sit here and act like I know these workers financial situations. And I'm sure nobody wakes up WANTING to go to court. But for the sake of the industry, I wish some of these types of cases made it to trial.

Settlements allow companies to continue to do whatever abusive practices they do. While the trials (should the company lose) would actually force real changes for the better.

But again, I'm not in these workers shoes and I can understand them not wanting to risk it.
