Grand Theft Auto V PS4 review | Gamereactor UK

GR-UK writes: "In my view The Last of Us on PS4 was the best remake in recent times, mainly due to the wonderful and captivating story, but it didn't change the overall premise of the game. GTAV tops this thanks to content, the improved technical side of things, gameplay tweaks and new additions. This is a remake that is recommended to those who have had the same issues with the franchise as me, as well as fans of the game who already own it on old-gen. Not simply because of an improved framerate and gorgeous surroundings, but also due to the cleaned up gameplay and the many new features. All of the above makes the harsh world of Rockstar's flagship title all the more engaging and attractive."

I still think nothing compares to the Master chief Collection, but this is a pretty awesome remake too.

Az1mov4078d ago

Are you kidding me, in less than a year 1000+ new animations. All vehicle interiors and upgrading the textures. a whole new perspective, 1st person view in all types of situations. I have to give it to rockstar they're kings of their game and the open world genre

spicelicka4078d ago

Firstly, I'm a big GTA fan, no way am I undermining the upgrades they've given.

Secondly, if you wanna do this. That's halo 1, halo 2, halo 3, halo 4, remade in 1080p 60fps. You're talking about texture? Halo 2 was completelyy remastered, every skin, every explosion, every sound effect, completely redone, not just interior but every exterior and skybox. Soundtrack remade with a new orchestra. Switchable engine at the press of a button. All cinematics of halo 2 remade, basically looks like a movie I'm sure you can see.
Campaign playlists extending across all halos.

Multiplayer for all 4 games seamlessly integrated into matchmaking. Over 100 maps upgraded to HD. Halo 2 multiplayer remastered, they made halo 2 anniversary forge absolutely nuts, with pretty much every item available from all the games, while still having forge for halo 3 and 4. Then you have halo nightfall access, AND halo 5 access.

I don't think I need to say much more. But I think i was a little misunderstood. I was talking about content not comparing GTA and Halo as games. GTA 5 last year already had an insane amount of content and they just threw a lot more on top of it. If it was GTA 5 remastered along with all of the past GTA games then you could argue.

sugawalls4078d ago

Sorry but Halo gets it's arse destroyed from GTA 5

ABBAJESUS4078d ago

You cant compare these two games really. They are so different.

tlougotg4078d ago

Just because a dev crams in alot of content into a bluray doesnt make it the best thing ever, many ppl are having issues with Master Cheif collection and its not just online issues so nooooooooo this is scoring better for many reasons. We get it you love Halo, like i love TLOU but i have to give credit where its due and this goes toe to toe with even the TLOU Remake and probably beats it which was done very well.

DarXyde4078d ago

Weird glitches in The Last of Us Remastered withstanding.

TLOU:R was a great remaster, but let's not pretend it wasn't without problems. Some of the glitches had you "die" when an enemy didn't even kill you. Still had a blast playing through it again, but yeah.

Then again, GTA V could have similar issues. I don't know, haven't played the new version.

spicelicka4078d ago

Yes but you're totally missing the point. Last of us and GTA 5 just came out last year. They're already some of the highest rated games, remaking them within a year doesn't make them amazing as "remasters". Well GTA 5 has way more to offer than the last of us so that's still considerable.

You're playing the exact same game as LAST YEAR, it was amazing then so obviously it'll be amazing now. It has nothing to do with remastering. If PS4 and Xbox one were backwards compatible they wouldn't have even bothered.

The way I look at it is like hey I played Last of us and GTA 5 last year, and yes two of the best games ever, but what makes me want to spend $60 to replay in just one year? with only better textures and a bit more content. I'd at least wait till they're cheaper. Whereas for halo, it's over 10 years of some of the greatest experiences in my gaming life, now I have a chance to replay in one disc....soo yea, if you're not a fan of halo then you won't understand, but I'm a fan of all 3 games mentioned here and this is what I'm saying.

No_Limit4078d ago

Who cares..both Halo MCC and GTAV are on the same system. Just get both and enjoy them and be done with it.

Psychotica4078d ago

Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4 etc, all seems like the same game to me. Run and gun, throw grenades, fly a banshee, get on a warthog over and over...

spicelicka4078d ago

"Seems like", that's something parents would say about their kids playing video games, because they have no idea wth the game's about. Are you seriously listening to yourself, you can say the same thing about any genre of game. Oh call of duty is aiming, shooting, calling airstrike. GTA 1,2,3,4 is all the same game. Run, highjack a car, go from point A to B, shoot some people, run away from cops over and over....(just making a point even though i love GTA).

If you're into the game at least have the common sense to understand that there has to be something good about, why else would people love it so much.

Psychotica4078d ago

@spicelicka - Are you seriously paying attention to GTA V? You can't see the difference between GTA IV and GTA V?? Bigger map, skydiving, underwater, submarines, GTA Online which is totally different than before, three protagonists etc etc. Not to mention it's open world with tons of things to explore where I can create my own fun with all kinds of activities. Guess what you will be doing in the next Halo? The same damn thing as the ones you are playing now..

PlayStation Store’s top downloads of 2025

O'Dell Harmon Jr. writes: "Before we say goodbye to 2025, let’s take a look back and see what were the most downloaded games of the year. It was a great time for sports, shooters, and some new PlayStation VR2 games. Sports favorites topped the charts in US/Canada and EU, with NBA 2K26 and EA Sports FC26, respectively.

Juggernaut GTA V found a home in the top three for both regions, with new 2025 release Battlefield 6 claiming second place in the US. Fortnite took top place for free-to-play games, and Beat Saber continues its PS VR2 success."

FH5 4th in Europe compared to North America 14th. Not surprising.

LucasRuinedChildhood1d 18h ago

I think it shows how shortsighted it was for Sony to let go of Evolution and not get them to make some sort of competitor (open world Driveclub?) 10 years ago.

bionicstar1d 11h ago (Edited 1d 11h ago )

its a hard bet to make. hindsight is always 20/20.

Christopher1d 8h ago

After Driveclub's reception, hard to say it would have done well enough to compete. It's easy to dream of such a thing, but to make it happen? It's taken how long for CoD to be dethroned? And it was dethroned by Hogwart's Legacy and has gained it right back just the next year.

It’s funny to watch the only games EU and USA agree on was Minecraft and back ops 7 both regions on 6 and 7 spot respectively other than that FIFA rules EU

gold_drake1d 9h ago

I would like to see a list that has both free to play and paid games together, but at least we have this.

To this day GTA5 is a top downloaded game and it makes me wonder if the industry is really ready for GTA6. I imagine almost nothing else will sell during that game's release window.

Another night of Fortnite with the boys then?

I’ve never played Fortnite GTAV or CoD BO7 but I do own GTAV for PS4/5 because I got them cheap.

gold_drake9d ago

i think we should either take those games out, or make a singleplayer list too ha

badboyz099d ago

I still play gta V alot. The others nah.

Popsicle9d ago

This is why we can’t have nice things.

Tacoboto9d ago

What exactly are we not getting?

Did we not just have a 2025 filled with nice games like...

Silksong, Doom TDA, Expedition 33, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, Ghost of Yotei, Dispatch, Split Fiction, Hades 2, DK Bananza, and so many more?

Popsicle9d ago

Agree that all you just posted are great games. Expedition 33 is one of my favorites. Spent a large chunk of time on BG3 in 2023. Another for my all-time list.

My point though not well articulated in the OG post is that we would get more of the games of the quality you mentioned if so many valuable resources were not allocated to FTP slop and/or heavy monetization schemes. Some of what used to be my favorite franchises have been ruined by them.

To sum it up, I would like to see games like 33 outperform the profits made by games like Fortnite so more resources are allocated to great games. When heavily monetized FTP games are at the top of the list, we end up being stuck with a significant chunk of games that are not good. Or worst case scenario games that spend years in development, but get cancelled due to industry trend chasing.

cloganart9d ago

Such a pessimistic view. This year gave so many good games.

Christopher9d ago

Popsicle, I actually think we're getting more great games because of the slop. Developers are seeing that people aren't happy and taking advantage of big AAA studios not delivering for people.

Popsicle9d ago (Edited 9d ago )

Perhaps, and I hope you’re right. A shift is needed IMO

I'm surprised modders haven't taken GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas and connected them as one big game. I remember GTA 3, you had to complete so much of the game to open up the other part of the city, which was connected by a bridge, although there was a flying car cheat.
