Digital Foundry vs Far Cry 4

DF -

"Far Cry 3 stretched last-gen consoles like no other, but its sequel on PlayStation 4 gives Ubisoft Montreal a chance to unleash the engine's true potential. With its gorgeous Himalayan horizon, our original hands-on at E3 2014 applauded a very well-rounded technical showcase for Sony's console, one which its creative director confirms has 1080p resolution as its target. But with final PlayStation 4 code to hand, does the game deliver a generational leap, and with this peak console resolution in mind, can it do so at a respectable frame-rate, bearing in mind the issues seen this week with Assassin's Creed Unity?"

"Through a rapid pixel-count, it's easy to see the PS4 absolutely delivers on this full 1920x1080 promise - with none of the frame-rate problems seen in its Ubisoft stablemate."

"PS4’s visual setup is easily comparable with 2012's Far Cry 3 on a PC's maximum settings"

So no need to boycott Ubi, right?

PS4 on top (as usual). Good times!

jackanderson19854121d ago

on top of what exactly? did you read the article?? theres only PS4 in it

RedstonerMC4121d ago

Buy this game. Boycott their others involving parity if you want to make a difference.

Walker4121d ago

My hot bet: XB1 is 900p with good 30fps but worse shadows and motion blur. Or 1080p with not as good 30fps and also worse effects.

An absolute mess of a game (AC:U), and a solid release (FC4) releasing within a week of each other. Both from the same studio.

Ubisoft is weird...

MysticStrummer4121d ago

The mess is a yearly series. Coincidence? I think not, but FC4 clearly got more attention from the studio.

On a side note, I happened to be watching a stream for either FC4 or GTA5 and saw your name pop up in the comments saying it looked good. I thought I was hallucinating for a second and did a double take. xD

GarrusVakarian4121d ago

Ha, yeah, I was switching between streams of both of those games. Open world games are my favourite, I think I'm pretty set for the rest of year, and some of next too. :D

Ezz20134121d ago (Edited 4121d ago )

i think they have different teams
that's why AC:Rouge run almost without any problems on my ps3 with pretty good graphics for open world game
and Unity run like crap on my pc
and the irony Rouge is far better game than Unity
give it a try ,Lukas

and i played Far Cry 4 on my Ps3 and it run and look pretty great too
still didn't install the Pc version of Far Cry 4 yet

Kumomeme4120d ago

it was from same studio who done the port job

callahan094121d ago (Edited 4121d ago )

It's surprising to me because I don't understand how the same studio can be credited as the head studio with two major AAA releases within about a week. Montreal must be an enormous studio that within itself has to half multiple teams. Why not give each team its own name, since it can't be the same people making both games at the same time, can it? I guess because they all work in the same building/office, so they just give them all one name? It has to be, in reality, though, something like Ubi Montreal Team A and Ubi Montreal Team B, so not *exactly* the same studio. But of course then the lead team outsources tons of work out to the other Ubisoft network of studios all over the world, probably getting assets (3d models, textures, audio, whatever) designed by the outside studios while the lead internal studio does the heavy lifting of engineering the code to work and doing the actual design? Maybe even portions of the engineering are outsourced... sometimes things like the menus or controller customization features (button mapping, etc.) are outsourced. Interesting... The fact that these two games came out at the same time from supposedly the same studio really fascinates me, I kind of wish we could get a documentary on the making of the games to see how their process works. An inside look!

MasterCornholio4121d ago

Dang for a moment i was worried because of Unity.

Looks like Ubisoft did a great job with the PS4s CPU in this game.

:)

angelsx4121d ago

30fps rock solid is good but i wish 60fps or at least 40-60fps Maybe Far Cry 5

late but still a good move, oobi

InUrFoxHole302d ago

Seriously, it's great to see devs add things to older games.

OhReginald303d ago

Sony....you're really letting ubisoft out of all all companies to out class you??? Give us the bloondborne 60 fps patch....ffs

dantesparda303d ago

I second this (Bloodborne 60fps) plus damn, Ubisoft, you're doing great but now the last thing I want youi to do is mae Far Cry Primal 60fps and AC Unity

Profchaos302d ago

Everytime someone asks for a bloodborne patch it gets delayed 1 day.

ETA next century

I_am_Batman302d ago

They know it's gonna cost them sales of the inevitable Remake that'll probably come around the PS6 launch.

raWfodog302d ago

Good news for when, or If, I ever play it. It’s waaay down on my backlog list lol.

P_Bomb302d ago

I like these 60fps patches. Hoping they’ll do Ghost Recon Wildlands someday.

Yi-Long302d ago

Kudos to Ubisoft for once again going back to older titles and then offering a nice upgrade for free. I know the company gets a lot of criticism, in quite a few cases understandable and justified, but in this area of contintued post-launch support for their SP games, they deserve some credit.

Ubisoft Removes Nudity in Silent Far Cry 4 Update (New Info: Changes Reverted)

Update: Ubisoft has acknowledged that the Japanese version of the game, which includes regional censorship, was mistakenly released globally. The company says it has reverted these changes in the game's worldwide branch.

Ubisoft has quietly removed nudity from Far Cry 4 in a recent update, sparking speculation about Tencent’s growing influence on the publisher.

You can murder, mame, and viciously attack people, but anything that deals with showing a body in a natural state whether for titillation or narrative, is some truly terrible thing. We are so weird with our puritan thought process. Feed our bloodlust and fuel our enjoyment for entertainment of simulating acts of harm and murder, but god forbid you see digitized TnA. It will never make sense to me.

Rebel_Scum326d ago

tbh even if they did remove it, it doesnt matter. I dont even remember when there was nudity in the game. If it was there it was so inconsequential.

B5R326d ago

Agreed. It absolutely makes no sense

Also, even though Ubisoft reverted the changes that removed nudity, there's the bigger issue of developers being able to make large changes to the game you paid for whenever they want.

Kassanova07326d ago (Edited 326d ago )

Stellar Blade comes to mind. This is why buying physical is the way to go.

Played and enjoyed Far Cry, Far Cry 3 and 4 campaigns .

-Foxtrot713d ago

4 wasn’t so bad

Pagan Min was pretty entertaining

Skuletor713d ago

Yeah, 4 was good, was hard choosing which Golden Dawn member to side with, when they were both pieces of sh!t.
I've beaten all the main entries except 2 and 6, ended up uninstalling 6 to download something else instead.

Profchaos713d ago

I'd love a far cry pack with the original PC game (not the half assed port on ps360) instincts, predator even a port of far cry 2 to modern consoles back when these games had their own identity and weren't far cry 3 cut and pastel

Demetrius713d ago

Still one of my most favorite franchises along with assassins creed

banger88713d ago (Edited 713d ago )

Same here, I don't know why these games get so much hate. I've thoroughly enjoyed every single one of them, with only a couple of exceptions. I wish they'd hurry up and announce Far Cry 7. The only thing I'm concerned about is the rumoured time limit.
