Did anyone else notice the ability to purchase the movie SD for $12.99 and rent the HD version for $5.99.

BananaSlug6571d ago (Edited 6571d ago )

about time?

Evil Rant Monkey6571d ago

<I wonder how long of a rental period they'll give you.)

MaximusPrime6571d ago (Edited 6571d ago )

most of the best movies come from Sony Pictures. Looking forward to download them from PS store ;)

@ below: proud to be fanboy, thank you.

Capt CHAOS6571d ago

I was going through the thread reading and agreeing.. until I came against your crock of a comment..

BIGELLOW6571d ago

@Capt CHAOS, I have to disagree with the way the term "fan boy" is getting over used and losing its meaning. If he had said "ALL of the best movies come from Sony Pictures and nowhere else"... or "Sony Pictures is incapable of making a bad movie, and all other studios suck"... and so on and so forth, then I might have considered it to be a fan boy comment.

Someone who just happens to be a fan of Sony Pictures movies might go see a movie... let's say Casino Royale... not realize it is a Sony Pictures movie... enjoy it... then find out it is Sony Pictures and think "wow, most of the movies I like come from Sony Pictures... I really liked Spider-Man and Men In Black... and now this..."

Someone who is a fan boy, however, would say "Daddy Daycamp ROCKS... because it's by Sony Pictures, of course!"

If you just call everyone who happens to like a lot of products or movies from a particular company a "fan boy"... then you reduce fanboyism to nothing but chance and probability and you suggest that to avoid being a fan boy, one is only allowed to like one or two things from each company out there, which is just lame. Maybe that will coin a new term... the ultimate anti-fan-boy... boy.

thesummerofgeorge6571d ago

I agree withe BIG. Fanboy is a bit over used. It's ok to be fond of a particular company. You can usually spot a fanboy when they're completely unconstructive (and wrong about their facts) when criticizing another company.

The look of the store isn't a suprise or anything... Looks just like the new store with movie ads.

Hopefully E3 will give us the important details we need like how the service works all rental or can you buy. What will the cost structure be? All HD or is SD an option. How fast will the downloads be etc. Hopefully they give you tiered resolution options like they do for now for trailers and what not. Nice to have the option of SD, 720 or 1080. Depending on the movie waiting for HD to buffer might not be worth it. On XBL I normally go SD if its not a big movie like action or horror because it buffers in like 2 minutes. Very convenient.

After my experience with XBL videostore, Tivo Unbox and Comcast On Demand I'm really becoming a DD junkie. I only buy Bluray for hardcore must have movies these days. Some movies are almost against the law not to own in physical form but others are only worth a DD rental to me.

Capt CHAOS6571d ago

But yeah, it looks great. Not sure about the 'Europe later' though.. Hurry it up Sony.

butterfinger6571d ago (Edited 6571d ago )

if we could keep some movies on our PS3 indefinitely, but I believe that is rather unlikely to happen. The store looks great, though:)

lol @ the disagrees

Capt CHAOS6571d ago

Suspect it'll be like the 360's timelocked downloads.

butterfinger6571d ago

I guess they are not smart enough to realize that I said that would be great. I guess they believe it would not be great to be able to keep downloaded movies on the PS3 indefinitely. lmao.

solidt126571d ago

I bet there will be some older movies and tv shows that you can download for good.

fusionboxer6571d ago

A tab on the left side said "Rentals" and another said "Purchase". Meaning we will most likely have an option to rent OR purchase media from the store.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle55d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde62d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy62d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga63d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit63d ago (Edited 63d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199263d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga63d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac63d ago (Edited 63d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman63d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box63d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion63d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7263d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7563d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit63d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14963d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7763d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
