IMO, GTAIV is a 8.5/10, it went 2 steps forward and 2 steps backward, just they took out the good and stepped up the unimportant IMO. Half Life though gets praised without question 90% of the time when its a dated average piece of trash, go ahead disagree, but this is just my opinion :)

Valve always stated that they don't favour the PS3. No surprise here. Certain devs will favor one platform over another for many,many reasons. Not everything is about money or loyalty. From the sounds of Gabe's comments he is afraid about the direction Sony is taking game dev with the PS3 which is quite different from what they are use too and which is what they are promoting. I think it more about a difference of ideas and methods of game dev that currently puts Sony offside with valve more than anything else.

Hl2 is/was beautiful but hardly interesting and grounbreaking . it was more of the same with new engine . I can only praise so far 3 source projects : Vampire Bloodlines , an awesome game despite it flaws and bugs , Portal , now an awesome game on its own , and TF2 .

I'd rather all formats succeed or that there was in fact only one console were it to come to that but right now it's satisfying knowing you guys know how us Saturn,N64,Xbox1 and Gamecube owners felt all the time we were being starved of some truly special games.PS2 was dreadful compared to Xbox and Gamecube which made it even worse at the time.

A true gamer would have jumped toward the ps2 then at least for a selection of titles , and you had years and many price cuts to do so . I know i got my GC and DC for the exclusive games i wouldnt find on ps2 ... and would have bought a xbox if there was anything interesting for me on it .

I choose the ps3 first for exclusives and some predictions and expectation on my end , and so far it's good enough . I then bought a wii for the usuals nintendo and jap exclusives , and as a bonus because of the appeal of the machine with my family and non gamers . At least i also bought a 360 for a few exclusives that seduced me .

With titles like MGS 4 i wouldnt loose any sleep over the new milking of the HL franchise , but if you need it , then buy a damn 360 or get it on pc already lol .

If they were PlayStation 3 developers I think things would be a whole lot different. Value lost my respect when they openly bashed the architecture of the PlayStation 3.

don't get me wrong, Valve is a FANTASTIC developer, and i absolutely love Half Life 2 (i've yet to get the Orange Box, however, so i haven't played Portal or Team Fortress 2 yet), but Gabe Newells complete and utter disdain, hatred, and disrespect for the Playstation 3 just turns me off for ANY project they are working on, no matter what the quality.

so what, they want to just give a big "fvck you" to millions of Playstation 3 gamers because they think the console is too hard to develop for? well then, it's completely in us Playstation 3 owner's rights to give a big "fvck you" right back by not supporting their titles.

i would understand them not developing for the PS3 for financial reasons, or an exclusivity deal with Microsoft or something, but because they think it's "too hard" is a bit of a cop out, especially for a group of devs as talented as Valve. i mean, if Epic managed to get their Unreal Engine 3 running on the PS3; and it's not optimized for SPU usage, either; it managed to get Unreal Tournament 3 to look like it did through clever utilization of code to work within the 256MB/256MB split between the Cell and RSX, despite the fact that the console is designed for data to be STREAMED, not cached to the RAM, it's the reason why the pipeline bandwidth is so large; 33gigs per second for the RSX, and 36gigs per second for the Cell, i think it goes (please correct me if i'm wrong on those numbers).

anyway, Valve lost a lot of credit with me with that whole "do over" comment back in 2006, when the PS3 launched, and when you have devs like Kojima and his team working WONDERS on the PS3, i can't help but not respect Valve as much as i used to (and i DID. a LOT).

Every time a game is release on the xbox 360 and the PC... sony leg humpers always say, "so, what I'll get it for the PC... bla bla.. not exclusive"... well... why are you b!tch!ing now? get it on the PC... it goes both aways... it's true that do to similar architecture and development cycle.. not to mention microsoft interest on making windows in terms of games... some games will be ported to the PC... but it also goes both ways.. some great PC games will jump to the xbox 360... this is an example... also, Valve is a PC developer... why should they waste time on a completely different architecture like the cell? Valve is a PC developer and their entire demographic always being PC gamer. just because this gen they are trying console does not mean they will change everything to support a completely different architecture.... and since the xbox 360 is so similar in developer then it's a no brainer for them to support it... They are PC developers and very successful ones... why focus on something they are not? Cell non PC developers...

Well after playing the game on PS3 they can keep the trash. I thought the game was a bore fest and wouldn't even waste my time with Episode 3.

Did mgs4 set a high standard of quality on ps3 , let alone any given console ? Last time i checked my biased little person , and opinion of reviewers and the overall gaming community , yes kinda ....

Are valve's stuff the best there is 360 ? simply put no . Each element on its own or combined of the orange box , and from was it seems the future left 4 dead title , arent the most groundbreaking (technically speaking of course) titles of the 360 . Framerate isnt perfect , and the orange box is of course not working as well as the pc version , even if running well overall .

I look forward to seeing you weasel your way out of this one . here you are comparing valve's attitude with kojima's while trying to bash the later , as if there was really some common ground .

One (kojima) at the very least explained his platform choices for MGS being tied to need of space and power... and once again the quality of his work speaks for itself and seems , at least apparently , to indicate his decision were right , at least imo .

One the other hand we got another talented guy and studio basically saying they aint going to bust themselves on ps3 and radically different from pc's architecture . I first played Half Life on my PS3 and even with all its missgivings this game is 'Amazing' and I love it...Question is do I buy another 360 again or do I get a kick ass PC??? but guaranteed to get this game one way or another!

Ground Breaking, err.

I'll clear a few things up with hl. The first was a masterpiece, no doubt.

The second was good, but not quite as good as the first, episode1 was good but not as good, it's gone down hill for me, maybe i've just had enough of gordon.

SOrry but the online sucks as well, if you like playing bots, all power to u.

Graphics, while they have got better, they are not in the same league as many games out now.

The shaders are good, the textures are very poor. It feels flat.

Story is good, but i hope this is the last.

Physics are good, but again, it's been done better.

So yes the first was ground breaking. But not any more.

Original Half life was one of the best game. I still have 4 digit steam ID which means i am one of the orinial player. HL 2 was great but it didn't make difference of what hl 1 did. I am sure this one is good too but had enough of half life. Killzone2 is the game i am looking forward to on fps.

Valve isn't a sh!tty developer, Half-Life is not overrated (although Episode One did not have the same WOW effect as the others, mostly because they were still using the Citadel and City 17 as the environment) and yes, Valve doesn't really favour the PS3.

HL is a masterpiece (as much as a FPS can be, that is), HL2 is a masterpiece and a modder's wet dream. Both received countless GOTY awards and mostly supreme reviews.

Saying Half-Life and Valve games in general is overrated is nothing short of ignorant. Sure, maybe you don't like it, but that certainly doesn't make it overrated (only in your own twisted mind).
Besides, as long as Valve focuses on the PC, they won't be left behind.

I have alot of respect for the Half-life franchise as a long time PC gamer, it really pushed modding to new levels, the story was actually told extremely well for a First Person Shooter, and the Physics engine is pretty impressive, even by todays standards.

The Fact is that Half- life has pioneered the gaming industry in alot of ways when it comes to PC gaming, but hasn't done a whole lot on consoles, I don't think that really has anything to do with the games, more than it does the fans of the series, where 98% of the fans will buy it for their PC before they will any consoles.

As far as Gabe goes he pretty much dug his own grave when it comes to Sonys fans for his comments about the PS3 from almost day one, he has done nothing but bash the system, even going so far as to say that sony should just scrap it and try again. So when valve makes choices that effect the development of one of their biggest games that negatively impacts the PS3 imperticular than people naturally assume Gabe had something to do with it, the guy doesn't like the PS3 and thats more than obvious. Valve is a very talented group of people, but Gabe tends to hurt their public image at times.

The Truth is that both the 360 and PS3(although both will always lag a bit behind PCs) are at this point pretty even in terms of performance, yes both have their strengths and weaknesses but 90% of the games that are being released look completely identical, so these flame fest are pretty pointless.

If they do show it then I'm getting it on my PC rather than my PS3 or 360. All console versions of Valve's games suck, so much better on the PC.

I can't wait to buy it for my Xbox 360. I have both the 360 and PC version of the Orange Box (I'm that big a Valve fanboy) and they're both identical except for Team Fortress. So don't give this BS about Half-Life being better on the PC.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
