thats what im talkin about now all capcom games will be using unreal engine

pharmd6467d ago (Edited 6467d ago )

yeah too bad the unreal engine 3 is outdated.... it was good while it lasted but its like buying a gamecube nowadays or something else last gen.... capcom might get a couple, at most, good games out of it but they're already hammerin away at UE4 at epic so of course they'll sell sell sell

zslash6467d ago

Umm.. no, how do you figure that? This is a European based title, that's why they are using UE3.

Capcom Japan actually created its own game engine... it is called Framework and has been used in a number of their recently released titles (Lost Planet, DMC4). The problem is that the documentation for Framework is likely all in Japanese, so it makes sense for them to outsource like this.

Capcom sucks they're going to turn into the next "EA", "Ubisoft", or "Activision" by the end of this generation. It's always money first and customers 2nd with them. For them going UE3 is like saying they're lazy developers and they're going to make average looking multiplatform games without much effort.

cant the industry use other engines?

Seraphim6467d ago (Edited 6467d ago )

that's what I'm thinking... I much prefer games that are created from the ground up. Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Ninja Gaiden, Lost Odyssey, God of War, Crisis Core, Final Fantasy, Insomniacs games, etc. And there ARE other engines out there. Albeit not as popular or well known but there are other 3rd party engines. The use of the Unreal Engine, again, is just sickening. Sure it's a solid engine, sure it's great to have an engine to cut development costs, and sure you can do a good game w/ the Unreal engine but for (*&)*s sake do something else!! I think every major publisher either has an Unreal Licensed game out there or in the works. Some, just like Capcom now have multiple titles. Support some of these other engines already. Then again, gamers, start supporting games!! Especially those originals ;) or just create your own engine. Those are the majority of games that really shine...

I was under the impression that Lost Odyssey used the UE3? As for your opinion on the others, yes, I agree. I would rather see a new engine used than just another UE3 game. I like what Epic has done for some games but many companies license the engine for a mediocre game and then sell it based on the use of the same engine that powered Gears or UT...

TheHater6466d ago

I am currently playing Lost Odyssey, and it look like a Unreal Engine game. Some of the monster design look like they were done on the Unreal Engine.

TrevorPhillips6467d ago

well the industry only prefers to use unreal engine because it is the bets engine out there for games

pharmd6467d ago

well well, this must be one of your submissions.... post post post all day long, you dont even post in other stories but you sure fill those bubbles up in your own

TrevorPhillips6467d ago

capcom are using unreal engine 3 for resident evil 5 to make the game more unique :)

zslash6467d ago

No, they aren't using UE3 for Resident Evil 5. RE5 is using their internal Framework engine.

THE_JUDGE6466d ago

shut up. UR3 is becoming over used that this point. Middleware may end up the death of next gen creativity if they keep this up.

TrevorPhillips6467d ago (Edited 6467d ago )

actually i can edit my comment so leave me alone alrite lowlife

pharmd6467d ago

This wouldn't be an issue if western devs actually made games for the audience they have instead of the one they WISHED they had.

The people they're catering to don't buy games. They will like the tweets but never buy your games, because they aren't, nor will they ever be, gamers.

No. Read this article with insights from Japanese devs: https://www.videogameschron...

Sega producer Taira Nakamura: https://x.com/tairanakamura... (use Translate)

There are better laws offering more protections for workers in Japan. Instead of firing people, they very noticeably stop hiring people instead - graduates are not getting jobs like they used to. It's still better to have the protections though and ***it shows what these companies would try do to Japanese developers if they could get away with it.*** She's right on this. It's about workers protections. Even if you prefer non-Western games, ***the cost pressures are said to be the same.***

Insomniac had layoffs despite reaching 11m sales on Spider-Man 2 quite quickly. Without protections for workers, big companies have no loyalty and will get rid of you even if you just temporarily become less useful when a game ships and they can rehire later.

What does this have to do with protections for voice actors?
