Microsoft has announced it will continue to support, but not sell, Windows XP until 2014. Great news for people unwilling to switch over to Windows Vista or wanting to wait it out until Windows 7 comes along.

Thats good..Sure as hell love XP more than I do vista. And yes, there are some that say Vista rox and has all this stuff, but frankly, it's too much of a hassle with too little improvements, and far more issues involved. XP ftw.

Unfortunate but true: I totally agree with that... and to be honest I think Microsoft would as well if it wasn't as bad for their marketing.

It was a nice try but apart from a bit improved security (or so they say) it came with piles of issues as well (including sub par performace).

Good that they are planning to support it for at least that much longer!

really? you had this penciled in, written down, or previously mentioned that they were going to support XP until 2014? wow, why dont you enlighten us further then oh all knowing being!

on topic: love XP, glad support is here to stay for awhile.... at least til windows 7 comes, maybe that will be worth switching to

Oh come'on. We all saw this coming from a mile away considering the vast unpopularity of Vista in the business and computing world in general. Do you really think MS is really going to drop support for the number one cooperate OS in the world? More importantly, how much crack do you have smoke to actually believe in such a thing?

XP is great running games but honestly, if I wasn't planning on gaming I'd choose Vista all the way. I ran Norton and AVG the other day after me and my family surfed the net using Vista for 2 months and both programs found 0 viruses and 0 spyware!!! Too bad Vista sucks for gaming....

Dir_en_grey6520d ago

Does Vista eat up less memory and needs less hardware power to run? Would it run faster than XP with a low end computer?

bumnut6520d ago

you will need a very powerful machine to get the level of performance xp will provide with a lower spec machine.

i have a c2d laptop with 2gb ram and vista ran very slow.

xp will run great with 512mb and a much slower cpu

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit1d 19h ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing1d 19h ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster921d 17h ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse

Tanktopmaster921d 17h ago

Let me be clear. This is sarcasm
