Link Amiibo Figure Now Has A Final Design

The final design of the Link amiibo figure has changed a bit. The green-garbed hero of Hyrule is now supported by a thick, sturdy, transparent yellow post.

And that amber plastic support is ugly as all get out. Why? I don't get it. They could have easily designed these with relevant bases that were molded to support the character.

R00bot4229d ago

I agree, I liked the old support more. However this still looks great.

Yi-Long4228d ago

The old one looked much better. The new yellow one looks cheap and very inelegant.

They should have gone for poses/figures that don't need any extra support, though.

vakarian754228d ago (Edited 4228d ago )

It wouldn't look as bad if it was behind him.I don't get why they put it in front of his leg. I also like how he was more upright in the original.

Spooney3234228d ago

Keep in mind these are intended for children and not collectors items.

Jyndal4228d ago

They're intended for anyone who is a fan of Nintendo's characters. I'm 37 years old, and I'll be all about owning all of them.

slivery4228d ago (Edited 4228d ago )

Wow what did they do to Link, it looked so much better before, the detail is clearly not the same and who's brilliant idea was it to put the stand in front of the figure?

Sucks cause that is the one I wanted the most, but it looks really cheap now.

Nodoze4228d ago (Edited 4228d ago )

That looks god awful. So are they going to do this with all of them? If so there goes the collectible folks. Almost every Amiibo is in an 'action' pose, so if they do this for them all, count me out.

These went from Pre Order to wait and see.

slivery4228d ago (Edited 4228d ago )

Seriously, if they are going to downgrade the designs like this. I'll pass. Kind of bullshit they are even cheapening the designs like this after they showed ones of much higher quality. Even more bullshit when I think about all the people who have pre-ordered these for their initial designs, only to see they aren't the same later on...

wonderfulmonkeyman4228d ago

Well, it still has a function beyond being a collectible, so the looks aren't as important.
If it were JUST a figurine, then you'd have a valid point.

ZeekQuattro4228d ago

Its looks the same as before but now the stand that holds the figurine up is thicker and is yellow. I like it. The statue is less likely to snap off the base now. Thats a good thing in my book.

Yi-Long4228d ago

They're sold at a premium price. They shouldn't skimp on quality like this with cheap ugly plastic. If the former stand wasn't strong enough, there would have been other options (metal stand with white/silver covering) so still make sure it's both sturdy AND stylish.

ZeekQuattro4228d ago

They are less than 20 dollars each. Far from a premium price. I know times is hard for some but give me a break. lmao The figure looks the same but now is less likely to break. How thats a negative is beyond me.

Yi-Long4228d ago

I'm not saying they shouldn't be sturdy. I'm saying there would have been better options instead of ugly big fat transparent yellow-brown.

And yeah, 20 bucks for a small plastic figure is pretty 'premium'. I'm sure they cost less than 4-5 bucks to make.

Jyndal4228d ago

$13.99 on pre-order at Amazon.com.

I can live with that.

masso91124228d ago

That picture is not flattering at all, I saw the figure in a video and it looks really good, I agree the stand doesnt look as good, but it's a lot sturdier and the figure itself is still the same

Nintendo's new approach to amiibo: expensive premium figurines

Everything Nintendo doesis expensive these days. This company loves to gouge pockets. What’s sad, people willing to pay for it.

Neonridr75d ago

I used to collect amiibos, especially the Smash Brothers ones. Ended up with nearly 100 of them. Eventually sold them all to a collector. I pick and choose which Amiibos to purchase nowadays, but usually it's the Zelda ones.

And as usual you don’t find the iron man dude to comment on such news 😆

Nintendo gets away with murder when it comes to its game prices . They're still selling some of their last gen games for full price.

CrimsonWing69103d ago

Not just full price, but $80 when last gen it was $60… and $70… which, don’t get me started on that.

£74.99 ($100) Switch 2 games didn't last long in the UK and games on key cards are annoying. Amiibo has been problematic from the start, prices a bit high, then the scalpers get hold of them, not forgetting stupid regional exclusives. On top of that, the content you get is fairly poor, then you have a figure gathering dust. For us poor gamers (me), Nintendo should've released Amiibo without the figures, just the bases showing who was who. I paid into a few of them during the Wii U era, but not Switch. With all of this, why would Nintendo be bothered?
