The DICE team report via gamespy:
"Battlefield 2 celebrates its three year anniversary
On this day three years ago, Battlefield 2 was released and still remains one of the most played PC FPS titles.
With over 15 million player accounts being created since release, Battlefield 2 is still going strong. On the forums we often see discussions about whether there will ever be another update for the game. Well, today we are happy to announce that we are working on an update for Battlefield 2. We are planning to provide an open beta in the near future and we hope you'll give us your feedback before final release; so watch out for that.
Keep an eye on www.Battlefield.com for information on what we are working on, release dates and don't forget to visit our forums.
In the mean time Battlefield Bad Company is released worldwide this week and we expect it will keep you occupied while we work on the update."

From Xfire: "With the next game being a return to the classic XX42 formula, now is as good a time as any to make an utterly definitive and in no possible way controversial ranking of the Battlefield games we've enjoyed over the years, with which undoubtedly nobody will take issue in the comment section. Right? Okay then - here we go, from least good to best."
Bad company 2 was still my favorite, sure it was a bit gimped compared to the rest if the series but more fun and far more satisfying weapon unlocks.
Battlefield 1942 + both expansions are my all time favorite, it can still be played online to this day. Vietnam would be my 2nd, 3rd Battlefield 2, last BF2142 the rest I didn't care for. They really need to remake from the ground up in the new engine BF1942. Next year it will be 20 yrs since it was released. If they don't at least to me would be a disservice. ☹
"erasing that simply reinforces toxic male privilege." I see the writer is one of those types of people...

"In case you have missed it, "ModDB has just released their “2020 Mod of the Year” awards final top 10 list, and what an awesome list it is! And with that said, a big congratulation to everyone who made it into the final top 10 list" - Jonas Ek, TGG.

Let's talk about Battlefield 2, released in 2005 and still getting love from the modding community. There’s a lot of great mods, so let’s get right into it.
Cooooooool. I guess I have to break out the gaming rig again.
DAMMM... "15 million player accounts being created" ... not bad for a PC game.
Now, cut the crap about patches, i don't play BF2 any more... where is the announcement of BF3 :)
Hopefully they add widescreen support for it like they did with 2142.
What a great game it is. 3 years later and there is still no equivalent on the consoles for this game. Bad Company is only a simplified version of this great game, ah if only things were left as is...here's to hoping for a better console version of BF3!
Counter-Strike is better
