them japanese 3ds numbers, and ps4 still going strong

BiggerBoss4227d ago (Edited 4227d ago )

Holy crap! Smash Brothers is HUGE in Japan it seems, those numbers are crazy.
Edit: nevermind, I forgot the new 3Ds model just launched that's probably responsible for the spike in sales

Also, it seems Destiny pushed Ps4 into a million lead over Xbox one in the US

G20WLY4227d ago (Edited 4227d ago )

PS4 sold almost double WiiU in Japan, pretty sure that's the largest lead it's had outside of launch window. It's usually fairly close week on week.

I'm sensing a tide turning for the PS4 in Japan - you only have to look at the awesome line up they have on the horizon. Gods Eater Burst is on PS4 and Vita, for a start! :)

darthv724226d ago

Such a starch contrast between NA/EU and JP. We are more invested into stationary console gaming while JP is more invested in portable console gaming.

The new 3ds is making a killing over everything in JP. What is also surprising is there are still Wii's being sold.

medman4227d ago (Edited 4227d ago )

Vgsharts is always good for a few chuckles. Close apparently only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades and the vgshart predictions.

CertifiedGamer4227d ago

Vgchartz is always 10,000 units behind the actual sales numbers as they report their numbers once a week and sales are actual numbers to date are about 10,000 or more ahead but their numbers are as good as we got for now. On games though they never count digital sales of game though.

Applejack4227d ago

Great ps4 numbers as always. Oh, and is anyone else enjoying Duck Dynasty? That game is a sure win for GOTY! /s

lsujester4227d ago

A comment that insane doesn't need a sarcasm tag.

Global Numbers: To check the global numbers go to the home page.

3DS: As I said the new model 3DS will bring life back into the sales of the console, which really didn't need much....."New Life" to begin with since it was selling a solid 100k per week prior to that. JP is 3DS land 100%, and it doesn't seem to be letting go anytime soon, and should be a market Nintendo has control over for the foreseeable generations. Now we'll have to see will the new model do the same for the NA and EU markets in 2015.

It also once again goes to prove my point that Nintendo needs to focus it's efforts on a high end N-Fusion handheld device (cost no more than $199) and just that as it's single platform, that connects to your HDTV through the charging cradle via HDMI. The technology is already here for such a device (200 GFLOP 2w mobile GPUs), and in the next 3 - 4 years the technology will be even better with over 500 GFLOPS 2x mobile GPUs, and the price to squish that level of power into a $200 device.

PS4: Sales seem to have stabilized since the Destiny launch, and now they're riding high on pre-holiday sales. They are completely dominating EU, and winning NA as well. As I've been saying the return of the PS2 is among us, and it makes me wonder what the holiday sales are going to be like, and what the 2015 sales are going to be like when exclusive after exclusive after exclusive drops next year. This is the generation of the 3DS + PS4.

XBO: One again as I predicted sales have dropped off into the 80k range, now that the Tier 2 launch is over. Good numbers nonetheless, but I kind of expected them to ride the rest of the year out on a high note in the 100k range. Seeing drop this early is a bit surprising, and more than likely we will be seeing a steal of an bundle for the XBO this holiday (Halo: MCC + COD:?? + Forza Horizon 2 = $379), and we'll likely see a real price drop early 2015 ($329 - $349, March / April). They just simply can't afford to have PS4 outselling them 2 : 1 the entire generation.

PS3: The little console that could keeps on trucking.

Wii U: They need Smash ASAP and a price drop to go with it, but I don't see them doing it in order to maximize profits on hardware due to the established success of Smash. However, If they don't drop to $250 to go with Smash, and they try to wait until 2015 they run the risk of letting MS drop the XBO first and it will completely ruin any momentum they need to get the Wii U going. It's risky, but IMO they need to take the risk and simply drop price in November and drop Smash the same month, and get maximum install base on the console, and make up the sales with their great 2015 line-up. If they do this they can hold the XBO off from passing them effortlessly in 2015, if not then they may very well end up in another GameCube / N64 situation sales wise.

360: Another little console that could.

PSV: Well next week sales are make or break for the Vita in NA. If PSTV doesn't take off for them, then the Vita is officially dead, which is really said. It'll still be a great little handheld thanks to all the cross buy, cross play, remote play, and indie support, but AAA games will never see the light of day on the console outside of Japanese devs.

Wii: Once again it was a good run.

PS:

If anyone's looking for an analyst "who has an established track record of being right", I'm right here for hire.

PS #2:

How do you people see and post on this before I even get my comment in lol.

LAWSON724227d ago (Edited 4227d ago )

You do know consoles are about profitability, not actual units moved right? Do you really belief MS is stupid enough to drop a consoles price to just move more units then the competition when they are moving at a steady pace and making a profit, while going into a big season where they haopen to have a great line up. That sounds like a bad business decision...

There is a line where risk in brand or product recognition goes above profitability to lead to the latter, however I do not see that really being a reliable way to go for MS and same goes for Nintendo.

LetoAtreides824227d ago

Lawson that sounds like a brilliant strategy. Allow Sony to continue outselling you at such a high ratio so that eventually you lose all 3rd party support.

noctis_lumia4227d ago

shut it already with all these excuses...
your console is getting raped end of story
enjoy last place for another gen

Magicite4227d ago

software makes actual profit, so they must move as many consoles as possible.

ABizzel14227d ago

@Lawson72

Hardware is not a big profit for these consoles, it's games and subscription services. If they take a $30 loss on the console, they instantly make that back up with an XBL subscription, and more than likely that gamer will stick with the service for the rest of the console generation.

MS doesn't have the luxury of letting the PS4 dominate this gen, because it puts their next potential console in the same boat to be dominated. If the PS4 takes more than 50% of the market share, it's going to take a PS5 disaster to stop them from making this an ongoing cycle.

There are times when you have to take a loss to prevent a greater loss, and having the PlayStation brand dominate 2 generations in a row, again could put the Xbox brand in jeopardy of going the way of Sega. Seeing the PS4 outsell the XBO 2:1 gives Sony leverage on making more games PS4 exclusive or timed exclusive without having to pay the developers anything, outside of maybe marketing rights. For the same role MS has to come out of pocket and pay developers marketing and some kind of developer cost to convince them that they should make their game exclusive for XBO, even though there are 2x as many PS4 owners. Financially they can do it, but it's a losing battle.

This is a situation of should we take a small loss now, in order to have a greater install base, and prevent a complete revival of the 6th gen (where Sony sells over 100 million and Neither MS nor Nintendo break 50m), or do we stick it out and give Sony this massive lead, and hope we can make it up later, and hope they don't get more exclusive developer support going forward.

I don't think there's much Nintendo can do, to change the fate of the Wii U, and I only see moderate success coming form their next console (40m - 50m) even if they fix most of the issues that plague their systems. This is why I suggest they go with a N-Fusion handheld console hybrid (basically a high powered 4DS that connects to your HDV through the charging cradle, and lets you use a revamped Wii U gamepad to play on the big screen).

The Xbox, doesn't have a back-up plan like Nintendo (handhelds), so if their console business continues to get dominated, there's only going to be so much until the shareholders for the company to give it up.

Like I said I don't see them really dropping price this holiday, because they have Halo and the COD bundle left, but they don't have a choice come early 2015.

Funantic14227d ago

All of your comment is BS. Xbox is fine. Were the X1 falls short in sales the 360 picks up the slack. MS has way more money than Sony. The end.

LAWSON724227d ago

"...having the PlayStation brand dominate 2 generations in a row, again could put the Xbox brand in jeopardy of going the way of Sega"
What a load of crap...
How the hell did the PS3 dominate last gen? Even if you exclude the Wii the PS3 certainly did not dominate anything.

"MS doesn't have the luxury of letting the PS4 dominate this gen, because it puts their next potential console in the same boat to be dominated. If the PS4 takes more than 50% of the market share, it's going to take a PS5 disaster to stop them from making this an ongoing cycle. "
Uh...

Once again you fail to realize a console does not have to come in first to be successful. I have no idea how people on this site think only one console can come away a winner, it is a load of crap. You know how Xbox could come out a loser making mistakes like doing a price drop when it is not worth the risk. If you think a price cut is going to close a gap let alone put Xbone on top you are mistaken. Yes, Live is of course beneficial for profit however it is not guaranteed nor is it only profitable. Xbox and PS were continously posting losses all last gen, especially in the beginning. Now when both make a profit in there first year, one is on the brink of death.

You keep going on about this 2:1 ratio but fact is that will never happen in NA and the sales gap in the region have miniscule differences besides a couple titles particularly Ubi titles. You are deluded if you think 3rd party would go exclusive for free on PS4 and miss out on potentially half or more sales in NA. The only dev that would be swayed are JP studios and indies depending on their predicament.

"This is a situation of should we take a small loss now, in order to have a greater install base, and prevent a complete revival of the 6th gen (where Sony sells over 100 million and Neither MS nor Nintendo break 50m), or do we stick it out and give Sony this massive lead, and hope we can make it up later, and hope they don't get more exclusive developer support going forward."

Far from it, You know MS had the same idea with the first Xbox and guess what it did not succeed and made MS lose like $4B. You know Sony took it a step further with the PS3 losing $250 each system and they had huge losses. Neither dominated those generations, yet you belief this time is different. As I said if MS keeps the gap small in NA they have really no worries and I really don't see that being to difficult. MS has the resources to persuade devs to their system whether it be money or a nice partnership (SO).

All this doom just cracks me up, also
@noctis lumia I give no excuse at all so I don't see your point.

ABizzel14227d ago (Edited 4227d ago )

@Funatic1

"All of your comment is BS. Xbox is fine. Were the X1 falls short in sales the 360 picks up the slack."

Where did I say Xbox was doing bad, I said it was doing fine, but the fact that the PS4 is selling 2x as much as them, is extremely dangerous to their place in the market.

"MS has way more money than Sony. The end."

MS has more money, the Xbox division does not. And what has that done for them regarding the Xbox brand...... I'll wait..... As a matter of fact I don't even need a response.

ABizzel14227d ago

"How the hell did the PS3 dominate last gen? Even if you exclude the Wii the PS3 certainly did not dominate anything. "

Now I see you're just not intelligent. Obviously I was referring to the PSOne and PS2.

"Once again you fail to realize a console does not have to come in first to be successful."

When did I every say that, and once again you showing your lack of intelligence and comprehension. Letting your competition outsell you 2:1 when you share the majority of the same library of developers is not beneficial to your company in no way. Yes they may still be able to make a profit, but as I said once again, they run the risk of allowing Sony to have greater control over 3rd developers, who can choose between making an exclusive for the PS4 audience, or making an exclusive for half of size of the PS4 install base on the XBO. At the end of the day it's simple business.

"You know how Xbox could come out a loser making mistakes like doing a price drop when it is not worth the risk. If you think a price cut is going to close a gap let alone put Xbone on top you are mistaken."

As the person above said, so it's simply best to just let Sony beat the $#!^ out of them every week, for the next 5 years, constantly outselling them 2 : 1 on a normal week, and as much as 4 : 1 / 5 : 1 during big exclusives / AAA game bundles. You're ignorant.

And once again never did I say a price cut would close the gap, or put the XBO on top, it's simply needed to reduce the sales ratio in favor of the PS4 to something more manageable. At their current rate the XBO is on par to sell in to the 40 million range by 2020 if things don't change, meanwhile the PS4 is on schedule to reach 100m in the same time frame. Price drops are going to happen regardless, and unfortunately your simple mind can't comprehend that the XBO will have been on the market for 16 months before they have their first true price drop if they do it in March as I proposed, which should have been more than enough time to get production cost down to at least the $350 range.

"Yes, Live is of course beneficial for profit however it is not guaranteed nor is it only profitable."

Live is almost guaranteed, because you can't even play games on the XBO without the Day 1 patch, unless they've fixed that issue, which requires you to connect to the internet which means more than likely you're planning on playing online to begin with. And regardless there should be over 50 million XBL Gold users since the number was at 46 million in early 2013. Even if all those users are going for Black Friday Live prices of $30, that's still an average of $1.5 billion each year.

"Xbox and PS were continously posting losses all last gen, especially in the beginning."

The consoles were being sold at a loss, especially PS3 with it's Blu Ray drive and Cell Processor early on. Also the PS3 didn't have a subscription service until much later in the generation. In the case of the 360, it would have made a profit, but RRoD happened, MS spent stupidly high amounts of money on things that didn't pan out for them (GTA episodes DLC), and overall they used money that entire generation to try and take WW market share (which they did), and come in first in sales (which they failed). That's why that division wasn't as profitable as it should have been, but it still made a profit.

ABizzel14227d ago (Edited 4227d ago )

"You keep going on about this 2:1 ratio but fact is that will never happen in NA and the sales gap in the region have miniscule differences besides a couple titles particularly Ubi titles."

It doesn't have to happen in NA, because there's a near 10:1 ratio going on in JP, a 3:1 ratio going on in EU, and a near 2:1 ratio going on in RoW on a consistent basis. And most importantly what does limiting to NA sales have to do with the sales of these consoles, which sale across the world.

"You are deluded if you think 3rd party would go exclusive for free on PS4 and miss out on potentially half or more sales in NA. The only dev that would be swayed are JP studios and indies depending on their predicament."

First off, I already said all Sony really have to offer is marketing budget, so no I never said it would be free.

Secondly they wouldn't be missing out half their sales ore more, because to this day the majority of games have sold more than half their copies on PS4, when once again counting the World (once again what does limiting sales to US do, besides try to prove some irrelevant point).

PS exclusives / Timed exclusives
Finally JP studios are moving over to make PS4 exclusives (Bloodbourne, Ys, Persona, and more), Indies are moving over to make PS4 exclusives (No Man's Sky, and too many to list) , A ranked 3rd party developers are moving over the make PS4 exclusives (Wild, Everybody's Gone to Rapture, Hellblade, and more), F2P games are choosing PS4 (Deep Down, all the ones currently on it), many PC developers are choosing PS4 (Magika, Day z, and more), what is it that your simple mind can't seem to fathom. This is a nightmare situation for MS and Nintendo consoles.

ABizzel14227d ago (Edited 4227d ago )

"Far from it, You know MS had the same idea with the first Xbox and guess what it did not succeed and made MS lose like $4B. You know Sony took it a step further with the PS3 losing $250 each system and they had huge losses. Neither dominated those generations, yet you belief this time is different."

Once again why are you limiting sales to NA, when you clearly see WW numbers up there and knew that's what I was talking about to begin with. The original Xbox was a loss, because MS completely dropped support for the console to rush out the 360, since the PS2 was already over 30 million consoles sold, before the Xbox even got a good start in the first half of it's Year 1. The original Xbox was only on the market for 4 years, before MS dropped all support, yet it sold over 25m consoles, in comparison the 360 was at 37m in 4 years (in wayyyyyy more regions). The XBO is currently on track to sell worse than both of those console in it's first full year Jan. 1st - Dec. 31st (mainly due to lack of regions).

On top of that, unlike last-gen neither console was being sold at a significant loss, and after a couple of months both were making a profit on hardware, so yes things are different.

Even is MS do keep their US numbers the same (again with this US BS), that's about 40m consoles for PS4 and XBO, but then the PS4 sells 40m to XBO's 20m in EU, +10m to XBO's 1m in JP, +15m to XBO's 7m in RoW. Which puts the consoles at 105m for PS4 (at worst) and 68m for XBO, which again is the range I've been saying all along.

However, at the rate the XBO is currently selling, it's not going to make it without the biggest advantages the 360 had over the PS3.

1. Better Multipats (which isn't going to happen this gen).
2. Dominating the US market while PS suffered (which isn't going to happen this gen).
3. Being anywhere from $100 - $300 cheaper than the PS (which will never happen again to that degree, but they can still be $50 - $70 cheaper in an effort to keep price on their side).

I never said this was a doom and gloom situation. I simply pointed out what MS and Nintendo needed to do to maximize their potential profits for their consoles.

BeefCurtains4227d ago

@Abizzel, chill out gaming brother. You wrote more here than the next 5 articles combined, it's not worth the stress.
OT, I'm enjoying my X1, hopefully sales continue good enough that the system doesn't tank and continues to receive 3rs party support and I will be a happy gamer this entire generation. On a side note, hopefully I can pick up a PS4 before Christmas, them exclusives look mighty impressive. This is the first generation I couldn't get both consoles at launch, it's been a long year!

Not much to analyze when it comes to PS4 vs. X1. The only question is whether Sony can reach 50% market share by year's end.

Bathyj4227d ago

Dont you mean, a man wonders whether Sony can reach 50% market share by year's end?

GarrusVakarian4227d ago

Bathyj is right, you done slipped up.

ARE YOU EVEN THE REAL JAQUEN HGHAR?!

A man is now questioning even his own existence in the universe.

Whats up, what down?
If I fell in the woods would I make a sound?
Does anyone even care I cant find no Tang around here?
Who invented liquid soap and why?

A man must reevaluate.

Funny considering Bruce left half way through development and now we get told there was an internal conflict with the story direction.

Makes you think…

HectixRose22d ago

I think it was good decision, if he was still alive, he would have been a mascot just like Kratos, drake and many others. These old dudes gotta die for new characters to take center stage with their own storyline. They keep dragging the emotional baggage into many sequels and eventually the story just turns into absolute shit show.

JEECE21d ago

It was ironic because people complained heavily about the story in the Uncharted games not having sufficient stakes because all the key characters always survived, despite the dangerous situations they were always in. Then ND killed a character in a more serious series and everyone lost their minds. Just shows that people don't always really want the thing they say they want.

CantThinkOfAUsername21d ago

I thought the more common complaint about Uncharted franchise was how the main cast are the good guys acting so nonchalantly while killing hundreds in cold blood (aka the dissonance between gameplay and story cutscenes). They just did it again in Part II.

Soy21d ago

Didn't have to kill him. Just have them part ways or Joel can "retire," whatever.

DarXyde21d ago

I don't think he would necessarily need to become a mascot (and besides, technically, I'd say Ellie is... So regardless, someone was going to be).

From a narrative perspective, I do think it has a similar effect to Ricky dying in Boyz N Da Hood: very likeable character, and you're really motivated to see the get back—in this case, it's more intense because it's an interactive experience. Most people hated Abby, but I get what they were after with portraying the cycle of violence and revenge—unfortunately, the game appears to want to take the side of the bad people.

But I will say that if Joel survived, it does become harder to tell an interesting story. What COULD have happened is an exploration into the rift between Joel and Ellie after the trolley dilemma events of the first game. It could have been interesting to see Abby out for revenge at the same time Ellie hated Joel.

Ashunderfire8621d ago

Sorry just had to say this lol! RICKYYYY!

Man Cuba Gooding Jr was miscast in that movie, but that part was cringey it was sad and funny at the same time man.

Ashunderfire8621d ago (Edited 21d ago )

I understand but the way they went about killing Joel, was poorly executed. Even the show of the Last of Us games tried to improved it, but it was just as bad. Well at least Joel got to know the reason why he had to die, before the death happened in the show. That part gave us the full context, but the game just let it happen with no pay off.

Joel death should have been a midway thing through the story, so we at least get to play him a little more with Ellie. Abby didn’t need to be this Hulk looking woman, but more like the show Abby which is a beater idea in my opinion.
