Why Did I Stop Playing Destiny?

"Like many others, I have been playing Destiny quite religiously since the launch in September. I rolled one character and wanted to see it to the end. How far did I get? As of last week, my Titan is level 27. This is the point where I have decided to stop playing Destiny and I do not see myself returning to it in a meaningful way in the near future. So what drove me to spend as much time as I did in Destiny and why have I lost the motivation to keep going? That is what I will attempt to explain in this article, so read on!"

Hey look, another Destiny QQ article!

Bansai4218d ago (Edited 4218d ago )

Why ? Cuuz it sucks, it's repetitive, it's small (for a game that many are calling "mmo", only 4 small areas, laughable) ... well the list could go on, but what's the point.

DivoJones4218d ago

Well the areas aren't small, they're just empty. When the Queens' Wrath missions were taking place a few weeks ago I took it upon myself to find the devil walker tank in free-roam to do the bounty (since it wasn't counting the kill unless you got the killshot or were right next to the one that did), that was when I got to see how big the cosmodrome area was.

The problem is that large area is recycled into the missions, so you basically see everything at least twice. And a lot of the space between major areas is empty and drawn out.. probably to give the illusion of a 'bigger' map.

Old McGroin4218d ago

Agree with you 100% Bansai and also with the article. Stopped playing a couple of weeks ago when the realisation kicked in that I had been playing the same few missions over and over again with little to no reward. Off with its head.

Frodosmugins4218d ago

agree bansai!

and this is the last time I buy a digital game that I was 50/50 with!

waste of £50 that could of gone else where!!

GiggMan4218d ago (Edited 4218d ago )

There is one of these articles every day. "X amount of things destiny need" "why destiny needs this" "what's wrong with destiny"... Blah, blah, blah.

I can't wait for are the gaming journalist and Destiny haters to pool all of their ideas and criticism together and develop a game. It would be the most awesome game ever, day one buy for me for sure.

Make it happen people!

(Or you could just stop talking about it and let people enjoy the game that Bungie made... Just a thought)

3-4-54218d ago

Great game for 4-5 days.

After that it's like..uhhhh what now.

Solid PvP though, but not enough maps.

ThatEnglishDude4219d ago

Destiny really isn't anything remarkable. It plays great, but not really any better than the game they made over a decade ago.

FriedGoat4218d ago (Edited 4218d ago )

Go back and play, halo 3 is my favourite console fps, but last time I went on it felt so slow and dated. Destiny is definitely lacking content, but at least the mechanics are modern.

venom064218d ago

i stopped playing because its very mediocre and boringly repetitive. Just as all the reviews said..

Hoffmann4218d ago

Destiny got over 350 articles on a big gaming site, till today I don't know why :-)

khellendros14218d ago

He spent almost a 100 hrs playing. It may be time to move on for a while. Come back later

SmielmaN4218d ago

I've put over 60 hours into it and it's fun with friends. The only thing that's keeping me around is a few trophies and Ive received two exotic weapon bounties in the last 2 weeks so I'm trying to grind those out. Plus Crucible Control is pretty awesome to me. I loved that game type in Battlefield. So addicting for me. But, I can see that my Destiny experience is going to come to a close soon. Then it will be NHL15 and Bayonetta 2 for a while.

khellendros14218d ago

Totally agree. I'm 70+ hrs in and still loving it. But I know I will move on to something else and come back when new content is added. People are making it seem like it's a bad game because of that.

vallencer4218d ago

I honestly don't know how you can put that much time into it. And this is coming from a guy who has 400+ hours in d3 haha. I like destiny. It's not a bad game it's good. But it's just that. However I know that the longer the games out the better it will get because of updates and expansions. I bought it digitally so I'd have no intention of trading it in and buying it again later. The other reason I may not care too much for it is because I'm too busy to get on when my friends are on. And let's face it the game is better with people to play with.

SmielmaN4217d ago

V- I really enjoy multiplayer and coop so it has a lot of replay value for me. Plus I think I'm pretty good in MP lol

rickhunter894218d ago

i stopped playing at lv22 lol could, impossible to lv up after that same missions over and over .

Drekken4218d ago

I guess I defied whats possible with three characters. I am amazing.

Shadonic4218d ago (Edited 4218d ago )

I got most of my exotics and legendarys that give lots of light from nightfalls and the bounties and in freeroam. almost lvl 28, gotta also remember that you have to level up said weapons fully to get all the light.

He paid billions for Starfield. This should be the real story.

Sciurus_vulgaris616d ago

Microsoft bought all of Zenimax Media for 7 billion, while Sony paid 4 billion for Bungie. I think Microsoft got the better deal due to acquiring Fallout, ElderScrolls and Doom.

616d ago
anast616d ago

This can't be true. They only bought Starfield...

InUrFoxHole616d ago

@anast
Should've thought that one out buddy, lol.

Yeah, I thought it out. I'm not sure you did. But since we are buddy's now, you're welcome.

So you're saying that Microsoft has missed out on so many huge gaming franchise in the last 25 years from GTA exclusivity to guitar hero and destiny it's just laughable they had so many misses

Reaper22_616d ago

Yea, but they're still 100 times more wealthy than Sony. I would say it worked out well.

Gamingsince1981616d ago

Xbox is dead all that money doesn't help.

Hypertension140616d ago

What has work out well? It sure as hell had nothing to do with Xbox.

andy85616d ago

That isn't because of Xbox though. This is a gaming page, not an I get supplemented by father Windows page

Bathyj616d ago

Microsoft's money has nothing to do with Xbox.
Xbox is a money pit to them they would love to ditch but are after some ROI first.

Let's face it, Xbox is like a red headed stepchild that steals from you to buy drugs.

Hofstaderman616d ago (Edited 616d ago )

MIicrosoft is NOT XBOX. The current situation illustrates this. And Microsoft wants its ROI.

@Bathyj and daddy Satya has just force admitted Phil to rehab.

gold_drake616d ago

you know why MS has so much money, and it aint cause of the gaming xbox branch.

so lets not kid ourselves.

PhillyDonJawn616d ago

Xbox was shown to be more profitable than ps

jznrpg616d ago

@PhillyDownJawn not more profitable. More revenue with ABK acquisition but them going multiplat shows they are not making much profit

ocelot07615d ago

That's great for Xbox gamers ain't it that Microsoft are more wealthy than Sony. Is that really a argument use are using now lol?

Imagine me in my job. Arguing with a fellow security guard at another company. Hahah well the company I work for is worth £800m the one you work for is only work £600m!

615d ago
Knightofelemia615d ago

Microsoft may have more money but Sony has the talented studios and the games to back up those studios.

Plus turning down Marvel too. Spiderman is only exclusive to Playstation because of that

Hedstrom616d ago

Best deal deal in gaming must be when Sony bought Insomniac for 229 million dollars. They made over 800 millions on Spiderman for the ps4 alone. Thats just crazy!

XBManiac615d ago

More in the 1.000 million now.

gold_drake616d ago

another Interview?

how is he the only one who loves the spotlight as much as he does lol

Futureshark615d ago

Let's not forget he also famously passed on Spider-man, Genshin Impact and GTA3.

However it's almost kind of cute how he can keep that sh1t-eating grin and say he's a 'no regrets' kind of guy, especially when you think how much just these 5 titles could have swung the world in Xbox's favour instead of Sonys.

How he's kept his job I don't know, he must sure be keeping Papa Nadella's shaft warm somehow.

"But, but Gamepass, he introduced that!!!"

Yes he did, and now look at Xbox, all it's exclusives are coming to Playstation now rendering the platform obsolete.

DarXyde615d ago

Honestly, with that kind of track record, you can't convince me Spencer hasn't eaten it from the back in the name of self preservation. Probably unwashed...and at least twice.

That aside, my interpretation of everything here is Xbox has been mismanaged a bit too much and Nadella came down from his throne. The way it is now, I don't believe for a minute the multiplatform move was Spencer's idea. I don't even think the acquisitions was Spencer's work. At this point, I reckon he's got as much power in his role as Hunter Biden at a Ukrainian energy company.

DivineHand125615d ago

You can never tell how things will turn out if he had said yes to those games. Xbox already has access to some great IPs, however, they hardly do anything with them or fail to deliver. It's also possible their presentation wasn't good at the time, and they made sure the next presentation was better.

I believe that part of being successful is releasing things in the right place at the right time.

Many major corporations have a story similar to passing on successful business ideas. Let us look at Sony Pictures for example. Back when Marvel went bankrupt, they had the opportunity to buy the entire Marvel for only $25 Million but turned them down. An unnamed big shot at Sony reportedly claimed that “nobody gives a shit about any of the other Marvel characters,”. They ended up taking Spiderman for $10 Million instead.

https://www.avclub.com/sony...

Fast forward to today, we can see what the Marvel brand has done for Disney. Is it possible the same success would have been possible had Sony acquired those IPs. We can't say that for sure and it is possible most of those IPs that are successful today may not have been used.
