Why Nintendo Making Their Next Home Console is the Right Move

Gamnesia writes:

"Based on reactions to yesterday’s news that I’ve seen lately, it’s clear that the mere fact that we know Nintendo’s next console is in development is causing a big stir. Some people seem really out of touch with how game console generations work—I’ve seen remarks stating the Wii U should last another five years. To put that in perspective, that would make the Wii U a seven-year console, which is longer than any prior Nintendo home console generation… including the Wii. And if a phenomenon like the Wii couldn't keep the same amount of high quality software coming five or six years after its launch, the Wii U certainly wouldn't be able to keep up."

Will be a disaster no matter what they pull. First Wii U gamers will be disappointed.

Its an online world, Nintendo is late to the party.

Next all the markets they want to cater to are pretty much dead. Japan no longer is good to any console. US is in deep recession and its only going to get a whole lot worse (expect hyperinflation), people dont have the money. Europe isnt doing any better.

I predict any effort by Nintendo is going to be futile and will lead to their eventual closure. Sony and MS probably wont be too far behind, none of those companies is doing well.

Really looking forward to how they evolve this ecosystem of systems and content. At this point I'm actually happy that smart phones took off the way they did. The tech and the software delivery system works. Sony, ms and Nintendo all are accepting the facts that are written on the wall. Lots of myths are broken along the way also.

The real question I think realism and story gamers need answers to would be will this free up nintendo enough to establish their own uncharted, halo, and start to compete directly for those new types of gamers that need high end graphics to have fun, content wise.

I say content wise because the tech to build cheap teraflop consoles powerful enough to wow those gamers constantly is not affordable, yet the contents can began to spring forth.

What would be interesting is if Nintendo fully adopted hardware agnostic software. This seems like away to prepare nintendo to become a port machine to other consoles yet it would just enabled them to expand their games to maximize a gamers given budget. With an eventual account system you would only need a nfc chip or Internet to access your purchased content on any of their hardware setups.

I would love to see nintendo make an ecosystem where high end 4 to 8k displays are supported while everything is elegantly scaled down to portable graphic sensibilities. Before you say that is impossible please understand great game design starts at a base then layers are added until the hardware is completely consumed. Bad design works backwards, which is why so much hype is needed.

So yeah this is great and hopefully it will be a true mover and shaker in na that takes this job. There is a ton of tech nintendo should embrace that is even ignored by industry AAA producers.

So the tech and hardware will finally be free of each other and totally united because of it. The faith of perfection is to not reach it. It's the journey, what a hobby we have here.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS64d ago (Edited 64d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer90d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot90d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box90d ago (Edited 90d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno90d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay90d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno89d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK89d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
