The 80GB PS3 now comes with all of that and there always seem to be $100 off deals flying around. The most recent one was Walmart taking $100 off every bluray player which included any PS3 bundle.

Hardware units up a bunch and software only goes up a fourth of what the hardware did. But they shouldnt say all of that is pirating. Most of my PSP games I buy used on ebay.

Well, the 150 million might have been a goof, but it doesnt change the reality that over ONE HUNDRED TWENTY MILLION PS2's have been sold, leaving very few consumers out there who WANT one, and don't HAVE one already.

With the reliablity of the hardware, how many more units would the author expect sony to sell? Of course there is going to be a decline. The ps2 isn't a disposable item like cereal or lightbulbs where the sales numbers are going to remiain constant over time.

here's why.

1. x360 is selling like sh*t in Japan unlike the PS2.
2. x360 dosne't have varied quality PS exclusives on it obviously.
3. x360 dosen't have a Sony logo on it :).

the 360 will have a price drop soon, probably at $199 for the arcade, the proven "sweet spot" for the mass market.

the 360 can play all of todays best games and many past exclusive ps2 games... Madden, GTA4, COD4, DMC4, Re5, GH, etc. etc.

PS3 does not have ONE game that appeals to the mass market, while the 360 has Halo and Gears, both are blockbuster games with a huge following.

PS3 will always be more expensive than 360 due to blu-ray, and with reports today of Sony still losing money on each PS3 sold, you shouldn't expect another price drop anytime soon.

So, by the end of this year, we could be looking at a $199 arcade, end of next year, we could be looking at a $199 pro.
And in 2010-11, if the next xbox comes out, the pro could be priced at $149-$129

PS2 is the king of JRPG's and guess what the 360 has been lining up? if it wasn't for LIVE the 360 would have nothing unique about it, and even LIVE is beggining to lose it's luster, firmware update after firmware update. mark my words the next xbox "720" will bite off/compete with the PS3 and 1st gen PS4 games.

xbox720 will run games on BLU-ray discs as proof of my prophecy.

LOL the funny thing is, 360 already is at the "sweet-spot" €199 in Europe and it ain't looking good, as the PS3 outsells it at a €399 pricepoint.

And no, Halo an Gears are not mainstream games. They may be selling well but still their main audience is the hardcore gamer.

Price and Games goes together. Even when the PS2 was the cheapest it wouldn't sell as much if it weren't for the PS exclusives. Yes GTA and DMC are now multi-pat but there are still way more PS exclusives which made people buy a PS2 for like MGS2, FFX, GT3 etc. These are the games that started the migration of PS1 owners to PS2. GTA and DMC only started to have a strong following in the PS2 era.

You claim that the x360 will continue to have better games as well as multi-plat games which i don't agree with. As i said in an earlier thread. The PS3 will continue to outsell the x360 and 3rd parties will not continue to favour the x360 for long. Look at recent EA sales figures for a an indication.

As for exclusives. I dare you list any upcomming 360 exclusive games bigger that these two. GT5 and FF13.

this year Gears of War 2 will sell more than FF13 when it is released,
and next year the Halo Chronicles by peter jackson will sell more than GT5.

the 360 does have strong third party support, which was PS2 biggest advantage last gen..
and the 360 does have price advantage..
FACT is when the next Xbox comes out possible in 2011, the 360 pro will be selling at the price the ps2 is selling at now, $129.

Do you know that FF13 will sell at least a million copies in Japan alone on its first day of release?. Don't kid yourself. FF13 will sell more than Gears 2.

Froza 3 Better than GT5?. I wouldn't bet on that. GT5 will not only outsell it but will also be more recognized overall as the better product by gamers and game reviewers in general.

Mass Effect. Its not confirm weather it will be a exclusive and even then it could never hold a candle to FF13. Are you serious?.

On topic : The PS2 had more 3rd parties support compare to the x360 right now so i really don't see why you are comparing it to the PS2. This gen 3rd parties are giving all consoles a fair go which will not necessarily mean the x360 will get a slightly more preferential treatment forever. In the coming months you will see things change. I already read that the EA sports conference or Madden 09 conference i think will be a PS exclusive event. EA is now starting to get more money from the PS3 than the x360 and it will only continue to get more from PS3. EA at least will not favor the x360 over the PS3 in coming months, they can't afford too.

As for price. The x360 as someone already pointed out is already at 199 Euro and is still getting outsold in Europe. Why?. Because of both current and upcoming game selection as well as value is not good enough. PS2 had the overall package like the PS3 will.

360 is definitely not the PS2 this gen. Ps3 is the PS2 this gen. The games are starting to come, one bye one, hit after hit.

The only reason why Xbox is having a hard time is because many people are afraid of change. Xbox was and still is a brilliant game system. Better than the PS2 could have even dream to have been. But we are on a new generation and Xbox 360 was the first in this gen and the next Xbox is ALSO going to be the first in the next gen. Does it mean it is going to do well? No, but here's hoping that the next Xbox does even better than how well the Xbox 360 is actually doing.

The mental blockade that the PS fanbase has put up is absolutely HUGE! How can any company compete and try to make a profit? Sega failed in the console wars. So did Atari? Microsoft may be the last new kid on the block to make a dent on the Sony machine, but boy is it a big dent.

Gotta give it to the Sony crowd. Very noble, very dedicated to the cause. Almost as high as an attach rate as an Xbox gamer. I own 153 Xbox games and 51 Xbox 360 games. Why, because the games are that good. The Sony machine didn't have that effect on me, because the Sony system I could not identify with.. it was an "Eastern" game system. I'm "Western" kinda guy.. you know... like all of you on this website, who happen to have English as your primary language. You know, the Japanese hate the Xbox brand... I wonder how Sony would feel if the West was to treat their console as badly their people treat the West's game console? Lets not forget that the west----Europe all the way over to the USA happens to be the HUGEST gaming market. Without us, the Sony would be nothing. Not a damn thing. Its up to you to decide who are you going to support. The game system where the people of its native lands hate you, or the other console, home born and bread on the very soil you had walked.

2nd xbox HAS made a big "dent" and yes the XBOX1 had some nice unique features. (things i like on my ps3, online network (dreamcast originally) and Hard drive (PC originally)
and i do prefer Easrtern/Japanese games (not to say i don't love FPS and GTA's)
your WRONG to believe the XBOX1 was "Better than the PS2 could even dream to have been." case in point they still sell Ps2 games! (and release the same game with better graphics and call it a next gen game on the 360.)
i bought a xbox1 and barely enjoyed it. Got tricked into LIVE to play ALL these wonderful games only to find out everyones paying $50 a year to play one game. (i tried SamuraiShodown5, Doomiii, and Tron. couldn't find anyone to play with) then i tried halo. oh there they are! PS be sure to cancel your LIVE subscription or M$ will reach into your credit card and take $50 for the next year regardless.<<<Very Unique Gaming.

It appears you are attacking the 360 for aiming to be successful, and I was attempting to point out that even though the 360 seems to be copying features that the PS2 has, I have proven that the 360 actually had some original ideas, and has been able to keep atop the cometition in some regards.

Will the PS3's free online eventually be as good as or better than the 360? I don't know, but until it is, I don't mind paying 50 bucks a year for online play on the console. If all three consoles charged 50 bucks a year for online, then I guess I would have to choose which one I wished to play online. For now, for what its worth, I don't mind the investment in the one console.

We've already seen comparison shots from time to time that show quite truely how much better the 360 versions of some games are than their PS3 counterparts. And vice versa... especially now that the PS3 is a more familiar machine for the developers, we will be seeing more games that look as good if not better on the PS3 version.

What has made the original Xbox versions of some of the games were that the Xbox versions had online play whereas the PS2 versions of the same games had split screen or Lan play. And to a lessor extent, worse graphics as well. Think I am kidding. Take some of the mulitport Xbox and PS2 games and you will notice quite a few that were online and the PS2 versions were not. Does that not qualify as a "better experience"? And then as the PS2 started opening up and embrasing online, you had games where it supported 2 or 4 online play and the Xbox was supporting 8. Do you see where I am coming from? I stand by my statement. The Xbox was more advanced and was the better game system than the PS2. It just couldn't compete with the console that had been more familiar with millions of fans already. Same story with the Xbox 360 versus Sony versus Nintendo dilemma. MS is fighting an uphill battle and the RROD issue of last year which is a non-issue now, still resonates with the gamers, especially those in the Sony crowd. MS invested over a billion dollars in ensuring all RROD issues are fixed.

Xbox 360 has some brilliant JRPGs coming to the console from the likes as Square-Enix because MS feels compelled to try to get some of Japan's market. And it keeps the JRPG fans in the west satisfied. I am happy to see such a strong line up of JRPGs coming to the 360. Owning multiple game systems, you tend not to really mind which game system gets which "exclusive".

And responding to your last sentence. I don't know what you are talking about with a "dvd key" but I do agree with you on the remote. LOL Why should we have to buy a remote to play movies on our console? I bought one anyways. =) HAHA That was another fault of the original Xbox that you had pointed out.

What I did was try to show as many faults as it had, the pros were stronger than the cons it had when responding to your attack against the Xbox name.

And yes, it is PATHETIC ---Absolutely SAD that companies deem it necessary to create a game for the PS2 and then also create the same game on the Xbox 360 with better graphics. lol

However.... Even though Ghost Recon:Advanced Warfighter was released on the Xbox 360, original Xbox and the PS2, the 360 version proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the developers, Ubisoft didn't dare attempt to create a last generation experience on a next gen game system. Basically less features and less online gaming goodness on the older console versions and less High Def on the Xbox version and NO High Def on the PS2 version versus full High Def on the 360 version. Okay not 1080p but it did support 1080i on the 360 so that was close enough.

Go here to read the reviews of Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter for each of the 3 consoles and you will see what I mean.

the PS2 had 32 players online with SOCOM and to this day the 360 only has BATTLEFIELD 24 players and one game that supports 50 players on one level. Frontlines. So i don't know where you are getting this 2-4-8 crap. HALO has always had 16 players from the beggining right.
After RESISTANCE 2 comes out with 60 players online, and 8 player co-op on line while GEARSOFWAR2 is going to out with 16 online(probably)
don't you think that $50 seems a litle too steep for ONLY 16 players while the PS3 gets 60 for FREE.

EDIT: as for multiplatforms games looking better on 360, the two machines are equal in developmental performance and 360 games are developed similar to xbox games. couple that with a year headstart and there you go. The best thing the PS3 has going for it over any other gaming machine is SPACE. MGS4 is a perfect example. Or imagine a open world sandbox game six times the size of San Andreas.

I tossed in a guess for the multiplayer amount re: Halo 1. Halo 2 was 16 player, yes. I don't dispute that. But I was not sure about Halo 1. Now as for Resistance 2, my friend... 60 players is rather kick ass. But the game is not out yet. Does that mean that I can talk about a game that is passed Alpha and is presently in Beta for the Xbox 360 that supports 120 players?

I've ran out of bubbles, so this is the last message I can post about this article. Tends to happen to those of us who support the Xbox 360. Looks as though soon, I am going to have to create a ghost account some time and continue similar discussions with you and others like you who have the ability to hold a mature conversation with someone even if they do have a preference for the 360. As I become more familiar with the PS3 and learn to like it more, my tastes and I am sure my discussions will change. I already respect Sony for all that they have offered us gamers. They, without a doubt.. at least until the next generation have created the most powerful gaming system on the planet.

There was a time that I became "fanboyish" about the 360 in defending its honor as fanboys of the PS3 crowd have done.... it seem right as vicious as the PS3 fanbase gets with the Xbox 360. I learned being a fanboy doesn't get you anywhere (especially if you support the Xbox 360).. which is why I am more civilized now a days about the issue regarding the console war. =)

There was a time when it was different on this site... when the 360 crowd was very vicious. I can't imagine being a supporter of the Sony PS3 bacl then. It was only fitting that eventually the PS3 would win. =)
