there was an email sent into to yesterdays giantbomcast from an anonymous ubi employee saying the same thing .

Sounds pretty reasonable, like I said to someone I was having a convo with on this site. This game is specifically built for the next gen consoles unlike other Ubi titles that were cross gen. Not to mention this game is bigger, has multi player co-op and who knows what else.

So you just can't compare OLDER Ubi titles and say if they can do it for those old titles, then they can definitely do it for this brand new built from the ground up game.

Should we take this article for truth...who knows. But it sounds way more valid and reasonable than blaming Ubi and MS having some uber meeting in a dark room beneath the gates of hell and discussing intentionally screwing the PS4 over for whatever reason.

This is ridiculous. I'm sorry, but with the right engine optimisation, both of the consoles could easily manage 1080p. The issue lies in the fact that there are hundreds of different people on different teams working on one single game, many of which don't even share any contact.

This isn't the first non 1080 game on PS4. Maybe it actually COULDN'T handle it. It's a video game console, it's not a miracle.

Ubisoft devs, please meet with Naughty Dog devs so they can show you how to optimize.

My only thing is why is it so hard to believe? Watchdogs was 900p on ps4 and before a patch black flag was too. From what vids and screens I've seen Unity looks graphically better.

It's interesting that one of the Dev's from Ubi just did a Euro GDC presentation where they showed how much more on screen characters they could display when they used the "GP" part of these GPGPU's on both the X1 & PS4. By that presentation, if they're even implementing it in Unity, the PS4 version should, should, have more characters on screen or maybe slightly more detail characters/models... If they're going to use each platform to it's fullest extent of course, which may not make sense from a $$$ stand point.

If you really want to play Assanins Creed Unity at 1080p+ without any broken promises then why not invest in a PC? Fanboys these days seem to live and die on 1080p yet refuss to venture into PC gaming where 4k is even an option. It sounds like the developer got overly ambitious with the AI/NPC stuff. I have a PS4 and I will buy a good game regardless of the resolution - Watch Dogs is one of my favorite games of the year. In this case however, there's so much defensive bs coming out of Ubisoft about AC Unity, I'm starting to think the game will suck. I will always take better performance over more on screen npcs. Imo, this is not a PS4 vs Xbox 1 issue, it's a poor game design choice on the developers part.

While I know the PS4 version will still be superior to the X1 even at the same resolution, I will not buy this game as I don't support what Ubisoft did and I raise my voice with my wallet, they obviously had a deal with Microsoft (AC bundle) and I'm sure having 1080p on PS4 would damage that deal.

Sony 14+4 setup is better than the 12 CU setup for Microsoft, lets be honest have we seen a 50 per cent difference with games for both platforms? Not yet anyway.

The reason why ACU for PS4 wasn't 1080p was obvious to me the frame rate was likely all over the place at that resolution so they had to drop it down.

Can someone explain to me, how at UBISOFT being a big dev/pub house with access to Sony and MS when building these machines. How could they build a game based on the CPU, when all the data shows that both of these machines where built GPGPU in mind and as an industry that is where the programming is heading. Fact of the matter is Ubi has made at least some sort of a contract with MS in my opinion, as evidenced by the fact that for the first time, they are placing the xbox version in the front of the PS4 version copy of the game in advertisements (which wouldn't make sense considering that the larger segment of their customers are on Playstation, and not just due to the larger install base but because Assassin's Creed sells more on PS consoles historically) AND the by the fact that Xbone will have a bundle for the game. It is very likely that one of the provisions of the contract included a "parity" clause; as in "MS agrees to pay such amount of money in consideration for Ubisoft making the game on a "most favored nations" AKA "parity", AKA treated no worse than any other version of the game." If this is true, shame on both of them. The gamers deserve better than their money politics.

Yeah, that bit about frame rate doesn't make sense. Period. The only way you can lock a framerate is if it's running well enough above the target even under the heaviest conditions (thus, it should be around 31-32 in the worst moments). They never should've said anything because now they aren't going to be able to talk their way out of it when it releases. Either the two versions will be disparate (which will probably piss Microsoft off) or they will be the same (which will piss off the Sony faithful since it's obvious they just didn't use the PS4's extra horsepower for anything and meaning they really did hold the platform back for the sake of parity).

I wish they would just admit what they are doing instead of making excuses. It's not the end of the world, but just be honest. No use trying to aggravate your customers.

It's so funny, if this guy had said the Xbox One couldn't handle 1080p you'd all be applauding him. We do know that both the consoles aren't as powerful as the dev's would like or they would be putting out ALL games at 1080/60, but they are either 900/60 or 1080/30, which is why he is probably saying it. Of course they can both do 1080p, but it depends what they take away elsewhere to make it that.

And my wallet can't handle this game. Bargain bin it is for me. Unlike others I have a very strong code and I stick to it, especially with devs pulling stunts like this.

The simple fact is still that PS4 has such an advantage in terms of GPU power that ANY game which can run at 900P on Xbone can run at 1080P on PS4. CPU bottlenecks don't affect the ability to increase resolution.

As a gamer who owns both machines I can honestly say that this game could and should have been 1080/30 PS4 and 900/30 XB1. Maybe 1080 on XB1 if MS was able to help with the dev like for other games. PS4 is MORE than capable of getting 1080p for this game.

Video game consoles are still not equal to PC gaming. Games are pushing consoles to the limit. We want 1080p/60fps in video games because our TV's can do it right? Well, the consoles can't keep up that yet when console games are demanding more then consoles can give. The thing that's holding consoles back is cost. There once was a console back the day that was powerful for its time and sold for $1000 bucks and failed do to price. So cost is still holding console game power back while games are demanding more. Also now consoles are multi media devices so that means even more power is needed to match what video games need to be stable at high rez and frame rate.

I was never big on resolution and graphics, as long as the game was solid and fun.

What my problem is with these devs/publishers is when they go out of their way to hinder a game, whether it's missing content or holding the graphics back. That is when I sometimes choose not to support them and don't buy their game new or at full price.

So what if I miss out on a launch window for whatever title it may be, I'll get around to it eventually, but I won't support them as much or at all compared to the next guy.
