PS3 is 'perfect platform' for MMOs

SOE President John Smedley has told MCV that PS3 is the 'perfect platform' for developing MMOs on a console.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Smedley said:

"Probably the biggest thing we can bring to the table is just the experience of having operated an online gaming service for many years. "We're happy to roll up our sleeves and offer assistance anywhere we are needed. We love making online games and we think PS3 is the perfect platform for doing that."

whoelse6571d ago

Sounds promising that we will see many MMOs coming from them soon.

JsonHenry6571d ago

The best part is - KEYBOARD AND MOUSE!!!

BulletToothtony6571d ago

so i'm sure we'll definitely be getting some sometime soon.. i really can't wait for E3

thereapersson6571d ago

Agreed 100 percent! I don't see why more developers don't take advantage of that functionality on the PS3. It's also why I believe developers should release more RTS games on the PS3, because of the natural ease of the control method.

solidt126571d ago

I agree also. I don't play MMO's on the PC, but if they come to the PS3 i will.

Panthers6571d ago

Exactly. I just dont like playing games on PC.

ChrisGTR16571d ago

sorry to sink the boat but honestly, sony cant even get jrpgs on their system theres completely no hope at all for mmos.

JsonHenry6571d ago

I don't play RTS or MMOs on consoles only because they don't support a keyboard and mouse.

But if they start making RTS or MMO games on the PS3 that support Keyboard and Mouse then I will certainly play them on the PS3 as well.

plenty a tool6571d ago

it always makes me laugh when i see the sony faithful asking whats in store for the 360 in 09. 3 more mmo's than on the ps3 that's for sure.

and how soon is sony talking about?? coz games especially mmo's aren't built over night! it sony wants to get some on their system, they better start working on them sharpish.

deeznuts6571d ago

JsonHenry, Sony does support KB&M on their console though. I think UT3 allowed it?

Soon? Please, 2 to 3 years, tops. That's a whole lot of downtime and aging on our parts. Will gaming be viable to you all then? To me? I'm sure it will but I don't think it's going to be at the MMO level no more. Right now, yea I could jump into an mmo since I've got surgery coming up and can't use my hands for actual work but in 3 years, I'm going to be doing good to even game regularly.

Wise Rant Monkey6571d ago

<That's your personal life bud, not everyone else's.)

Silogon6571d ago

Oh so you're not prone to age and change with time? Cool, share your secrets of life.

supahbad6571d ago

so i guess you won't be able to play Too Human because of your little bubu.

ice_prophecy6571d ago

Like MonsterHunter

Then i'll be happy ^^

Grinding MMOs will be the death of me!

Kami6571d ago

monster hunter for the ps3 sounded awesome when it first was announced. but capcom did their stupid move of moving it to the wii.
If the next MH was on the ps3 just imagine how the ps3 and the game will it sell in japan.

B-Rein6571d ago

....for an MMORPG, never played those :P

DrWan6571d ago

Highly addictive but very time consuming, i will probably never play another MMORPG, 'wasted' 2 yrs of life on FF11. I felt like I don't know, you will know once u start. U will feel your life basically rot away in a virtual world, it's a horrible feeling after you realize it. Any WoW player will probably share similar feeling

user8586216571d ago

hopefully ther will do wat the 3fixme cudnt with ff11 lmao a mean who even plays that anymore lmao

Sez 6571d ago (Edited 6571d ago )

ahh. yeah. lets me get this straight. FF11 was released on the 360 what like 3 to 4 years after the PC/ps2 version was already released. and people expected it to sell as good or better than the pc/ps2 version. yeah i love dumb logic. why would anyone buy a game that was out 3 to 4 years earlier.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle52d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde59d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy59d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga61d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit60d ago (Edited 60d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199260d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga60d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac60d ago (Edited 60d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman60d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box61d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion60d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7261d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7560d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit60d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14960d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7760d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
