Microsoft Games Studios is still in its infancy. There are some talented studios currently working on titles over at Microsoft such as Rare, Lionhead, and Turn 10. However since the Xbox 360s inception Microsoft seems to have let certain studios slip away that could have made great assets for their 1st party development house. With Microsoft stating previously that they want to become more focused on 1st party development to push hardware instead of relying on 3rd party exclusives one has to wonder why the management over at Redmond would let some of these potentially valuable developers slip through the cracks.
Microsoft has stated that buying out development houses isn't always the most sound strategy for both parties involved. However, it is a good way to strengthen MGS and promote growth as well as diversity. Let's take a look at what Microsft has allowed to to be taken away as well as what could be potentially wise business moves to improve the 1st party development for Microsoft Game Studios.

Microsoft havn't got first party developers as good as Sony, they just buy exclusives from third party developers, it really is quite worrying. i hope Sony don't flash the cash to get good games, they should carry on with their own studios.
it would be a great business move if Microsoft purchased Epic and Sega. All of Sega's IPs plus the Gears of War franchise and the Unreal Engine would definately bolster Micros 1st party lineup.
i know what you mean, but i just feel that microsoft are relying too much on third party exclusives. they may give fanboys something to shout about but i feel that Sony are handling exclusives much better, evening first and third party exclusives. i may be contradicting myself talking about fanboys as i have a preference towards sony, but c'mon, microsoft just buy buy buy, they havn't got an ounce of work in them.
@ disagrees, you know i'm right!
i think MS is too reliant on 3rd parties at the moment and should really focus on their 1st party studios. maybe acquire some more.
it would be a good buiness move to NOT buy companys like Epic or Sega because they have no interest in being bought. All the talent will just leave
What MS needs to do is MAKE a few new studios and have them work on REAL IP's. They never did sink the gaming roots very deep. It took Sony 20 years to grow its roots and not to flame this...
but
MS has kinda pigen holed themselfs into the "shooter" system! Its why they are going after Wii like gamers now because they NEED to set some roots down or they wont make a decade in gaming! They have 4 years to do this and if they dont i personaly dont see how they could bring out a new xbox!
plus
not to flame this anymore
have you played MGS?
I know alot of Devs have and they see where the top is now!
