Square's Chrono Trigger stands out as one of the best RPGs from the Super NES era of gaming and would later go on to spawn a semi-sequel in Radical Dreamers, an actual sequel for the Sony PlayStation, and enhanced remakes for both the PS1 and the Nintendo DS as well as mobile platforms. The story of how a band of unlikely heroes band together via time travel to destroy an ancient space parasite eager to devour the planet is one of gaming's most detailed, most surprising tales, and while the game offers plenty to do and many sidequests to explore, one subplot was dropped from the game during development because it was deemed too depressing. In a game where time and fate regularly screw with the protagonists, how depressing did a story element have to be in order to be scrapped?

New Chrono Trigger Form-ism figures of Crono and Marle have been showcased at a Square Enix pop-up store, with pre-orders expected soon.

Jason Dietz: "We reveal the past year's best and worst video game publishers (based on their 2025 releases) in the 16th edition of our annual Game Publisher Rankings."
But... but... the garbage-mongers always tell us that Square Enix is in trouble! 😂

Square Enix announced its financial results for the first nine months of the fiscal year, related to the period between April and December 2025.
Just a correction that needs to be made about the article: Chrono Trigger was made by Square, not Square-Enix. They are two completely different game companies.
I really need to complete this. Kept getting bored of the storyline. Chrono cross actually was more enjoyable for me, though I didn't complete that one as well.
My favorite game of all time. Simply perfect
could use a remake of this game *hint hint* *nudge nudge*
The game had some pretty depressing moments as it was:
1. Robo getting thrashed/trashed by his old friends.
2. Chrono going on trial for kidnapping.
3. Potentially having Lucca's father die.
4. CYRUS DIES!!!!
5. The king gets kidnapped! As does the chancellor!
6. Janus becomes "evil" Magus.
7. If you die after 2300, the game over screen reads "but the future refused to change."
8. Glenn is turned into a frog!
9. The dinosaurs go extinct!
10. The world is destroyed by Lavos.
11. You find out that time will end anyway.
Am I missing anything else?
