DSOGaming - Alien: Isolation - PC Performance Analysis

DSOGaming writes: "Alien: Isolation has just been released, and it’s time to see how this current-gen only game performs on the PC platform. Alien: Isolation is developed by The Cretive Assembly, the team behind the Total War series, and is powered by the team’s in-house engine. Naturally – and given The Creative Assembly’s record – a lot of PC gamers were questioning whether the team would be able to offer a polished version of a non-strategy game to its fans. And we are happy to report that Alien: Isolation performs incredibly well on the PC."

8320/7950/8GB and this thing runs like a dream. All setting maxed minus AA(useless). Smooth as butter with triple buffering/vsync forced through driver(Radeonpro). This is a modest rig, so don't accuse me of bragging.

No, I don't think you are bragging. You are right, this game runs incredibly well.

I'm running it with all settings maxed and at 2560 x 1440 resolution and I'm still getting a rock solid 60fps.

The game looks incredible too. I honestly think this is probably the best looking game I have yet played on either my PC or PS4. It just looks phenomenal. The materials and the lighting are excellent and at times it looks nearly real.

"Alien: Isolation looks great, though we have to say that we were a little let down by the lack of full dynamic shadows."

When you have a scene with dozens of dynamic lights, not all of them will be able to cast shadows. Especially with point/area lights. Lights that cast shadows in every direction are quite difficult to realistically model in real-time. If you want every single light source to realistically cast shadows, you're going to have to balance that with compromises in other departments, unfortunately.

Yep, very true. dosgaming often complain about funny things that leave me scratching my head.

Overall, this game has phenomenal lighting. Sure, I could nitpick about the fact your character doesn't cast shadows or the fact that your feet just slide when looking at your feet while turning, but in general I'm seriously impressed by how good this game looks, and especially by how well it runs.

It's by far the best looking game relative to how well it performs that we have seen yet.

The Best Alien Games (To Play After Watching Alien: Earth)

An opinion piece on the best Alien games. From arcade Alien vs Predator action to a terrifying Xenomorph stalker, these are the best Alien video games starring Ridley Scott’s chestbursting, acid-blooded nightmare.

Got a soft spot for AvP (2010) but solid list nonetheless.

My favorite Aliens game also, having the three campaigns to play was great. Scaling walls as an alien waiting to ambush anyone that came too close.

Only played a little of the horde mode but was still fun.

Aliens Fireteam Elite was my GotY in 2021, single player was kinda bad but playing that game 3 player with friends was so good and really challenging on higher difficulties

Massive shout out to Aliens Vs predator 2 (2001), a dialup lag filled fun mess in multiplayer and 3 great campaigns

I played through most of the PS4 version of the game but stopped because another game came out. I bought it last year for PC with the intention of using the VR mod but haven't gotten around to setting it up. I am glad I waited.

Great game, even better in VR. A little drawn out by the end, but I hope we see CA do something a little different with the sequel.

Sweet. I also rebought this game on Steam for the purpose of VR. I'll have to give it another shot w full immersive controls. I had only tried it out briefly before.

It's funny this was never officially released at retail as a VR game, bc it feels so perfect for it!

10 Years Ago, Alien: Isolation Came Close to Being The Perfect Organism

The Alien franchise has had a long history in video games, but few games have come quite as close to being perfect as Alien: Isolation.
