Resident Evil: PS4 vs. GameCube Graphics Comparison

Capcom gives IGN a peek at a work-in-progress build of Resident Evil's HD remake.

fonger084226d ago

I have to say the Gamecube version holds up pretty well. The biggest difference was the character models. The Gamecube was a pretty nice machine with some impressive specs, but it's sales go to show that even if Nintendo created a powerful machine, doesn't always translate to sales.

Does anyone know if they've attempted to update the controls for this remake?

Sorry for double pist

Venoxn4g4226d ago

Yes there are gonna be 2 control options modern one and classic

SoapShoes4226d ago

It does look good on GC. I can tell a decent sized difference in gameplay. The character models are much better and jaggies are gone. The prerendered assets and cutscenes are still pretty much the same which is to be expected.

loganbdh4226d ago

If I'm not mistaken they gave it re6 controls as well

Fuck Capcom. I can barley tell the difference, which is sad on so many levels. They need to build from the ground up for any REMAKE of a game that came out before 2007. They upped the resolution... WOW.

We as gamers, can't feed into this shit and let companies get away with this.

HaydenJameSmith4226d ago

This was originally the remake of the Resident Evil... a quite substantial one. What now we need a remake of a remake ? I don't care much for remakes either as they are usually just cash-ins but I never played this or the original RE so I'm looking forward to it, the horror genre has turned into crappy action games this will be a refreshing change.

MrChicagoWind4226d ago

It was a damn good remake of the PS1 version on Gamecube (same with Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes). I'm not saying Capcom should keep rebuilding the same game, but if they are going to keep milking us with old ideas, the least they could do is build a game around the new consoles. Imagine the gameplay, physics, social aspects, etc... that can be incorporated in todays powerful machines.

Its a Remaster not a full remake.....

HaydenJameSmith4226d ago (Edited 4226d ago )

@MrChicagoWind's Reply

I completely agree, we should be getting a lot more than just a boost in resolution and modified textures but obviously its cheaper for them to remake an old game and change as little as possible, thats why they do it.

Either way its a terrific series Resident Evil well the old one are anyway and I have never played RE1 so I look forward to this particular remake.

ABizzel14226d ago

Looks like a PS360 HD Remaster, more than a PS4 Remaster. My guess is it's going to be $20 on PSN and XBL like RE4 was, which is more understandable if so.

Hold_It4226d ago

You must be blind, this is coming from someone who doesn't care for capcom at all. If you want to talk about upping the resolution look at Resident Evil Code Veronica "HD" and Resident Evil 4 "HD" (Notice the quotes). This actually has some work done to it, not just rereleased on a system with a 360p difference.

The PS4 version has superior IQ.

Stsonic4226d ago

GameCube was around in ps2 era so you would hope so.

Master-H4226d ago

It's not worthy of even being called a remake, it's barely a remaster with upped resolution of a game from not one but two (can be counted as three if we consider the ps1 version) generations ago, Capcom just want to gain as much money as possible with the absolute minimum effort, but hey, if people keep buying their shit..

HaveSumNuts4226d ago (Edited 4226d ago )

This is called a "remake" wtf there's barely any difference. Capcom are some of the laziest devs around. They re-released Resident Evil 4 like 3 times and I couldn't tell the original ps2 version apart from the "remaked" others.

mydyingparadiselost4226d ago (Edited 4226d ago )

Don't you mean the original GC version? RE4 was on the GC, then PS2, then Wii, then HD on PS3 (I think) and then PC.

DevilOgreFish4226d ago (Edited 4226d ago )

Correction, ps2's version was a very lazy port of GameCube's version, which had pre-rendered cut-scenes compared to GC's real-time. http://beyond3d.com/showpos...

At first I was like, No Code Veronica on the list!? But then I seen Mainline. The list checks out, but I would personally put 2 over 4.

KwietStorm_BLM62d ago

I'll take 2 over 4 also. And even without a number, I don't see how Code Veronica, my other favorite in the franchise, isn't mainline when it's the actual sequel to RE2.

Rebel_Scum63d ago

The original RE was the best. Its not on the list which makes no sense.

The remake of it was alright but should be higher on this list.

-Foxtrot62d ago

The original RE smokes VII and Village, come on.

ivoryrolland9543d ago

i’m fine with people calling it “mainline,” but leaving out the original re1 entirely is wild, since it basically defines the whole series. i’d still put re2 over re4 for pure pacing and atmosphere, even though re4 is the more replayable game. also, the “mainline” label gets messy with code veronica since it feels more essential than some numbered entries. i swear half the time i’m reading these rankings i get derailed by random gambling tabs i opened earlier, including https://monopolybigballerli... and https://football-studio-dic... and https://red-baron.org/ which is a weird contrast to talking about survival horror.
