Regarding Upcoming Destiny Content

DeeJ
Hey, Bungie Community.

I hope you had a nice weekend.

We noticed that you noticed that we already have plans for upcoming content packs in Destiny.

Thatguy-3104253d ago

Rightttt ¬_¬ wish gaming was like before. Ever since online got introduced it made it easier for the consumers to get screwed

BiggerBoss4253d ago

Exactly. Gone are the days when you could buy a game and get the WHOLE game. I should've expected Activision to screw up Destiny somehow...

Mega244253d ago (Edited 4253d ago )

Yeah, like buying Perfect Dark or Donkey Kong 64 and getting the whole game ¬_¬. Like Shenmue not needing the "memory card" to keep playing past first disc. Yeah, this is totally new. The only difference is digital now.

xPhearR3dx4253d ago

I remember the first game (that I can recall anyway) that had DLC on consoles. SOCOM 2. You needed that big ass HDD you screwed on the back of your PS2 and the map packs were $5 each (came with OPM). Not only was the DLC 1/3 of the price, the game also shipped with 22 maps. 22!!! That's what you call justified DLC. Not this garbage.

thekhurg4253d ago

It's a fucking MMO. Seriously ... this shit is gated for a reason. They could have just as easily charged everyone a monthly fee and kept everything off the disc and released it when they wanted.

Instead they load the art assets and other static locations on the disc since it's all part of the world they've created, while they continue to work on the content itself.

Wordzero4253d ago

@thekhurg You absolutely hit it on the head! I don't see why people have such a hard time understanding that.

nicksetzer14253d ago

Wow, I never thought of it that way. It is true though, games used to be complete and full of value before online. Made DLC easier to distribute. Sucks, because online play is one of my favorite additions to gaming, now I am in a love hate relationship with it lol.

Muzikguy4253d ago

I completely agree. The consoles too! Always have to update the consoles instead of just releasing and calling it a day. I think in more ways it's good for the consoles. As for the games, I don't like it one bit. I miss the days when a full game was released chuck full of secrets and unlockables for completing things in-game as opposed to buying as DLC. The industry keeps wanting us to stay online and connected so they can keep taking our money. I'm very skeptical of a lot of games nowadays that's for sure. Next up... The Divison (because it's online only)

UltraNova4252d ago

I refuse to buy online only games. I refuse to let the like of MS and Activision to take advantage of me. I will only get the PC versions as long as they wont charge extra.

The day games are only playable online is the day I will lay my controller to rest, forever.

1nsomniac4253d ago (Edited 4253d ago )

Online has been around for decades & wasn't a problem at all until COD & Activision got involved in the console space. Console gamers accepted it & called PC gamers cry babies for for making such a fuss.

...and here we are now with Activision still trying to test how far they can push console gamers & get away with it.

kratoz12094253d ago

Seriously they should release the dlc for free or at least give us a new planet for free?

Johnsonparts234252d ago

ya I hate online multiplayer and instant updates, that really sucks...... o.0

FanboyKilla4252d ago (Edited 4252d ago )

I think its acti, not bungie. But i do know someone is sticking it so far up our arses we wont be sitting for months. Smh Lmfao bungie the grass isnt always greener. I bet you looking back at ms like uh oh. Dumb arses. They seem so new to the industry. Who in the hell is running the buisness side of the operations?

Yes ms owns halo, but atleast it wasnt your soul. We all know activision is pulling all your srtings from behind the curtain. They get the check you look stupid. Out of the frying pan into the fire i guess.

porkChop4253d ago

And yet we know one of the expansions deals with the Queen, which means that scene that was shown a year ago with her brother on Earth is from the expansion. Even though that scene was part of a gameplay demo of Destiny itself, not the DLC. Pretty clear that a bunch of content was cut out to make these expansions, which is exactly why the game feels so empty and short. There's no content because 2/3rds of the game was cut out for paid expansions.

I think Destiny is a good game, but it's nowhere near the quality standard that Bungie has maintained in the past. Activision was the worst thing that happened to them.

BlackWolf124253d ago

Actually that scene was more than likely cut from the final game. If you actually watch the scene you will see the awoken guy talking about how things are done out in the wild on earth. When in the final game he is the right hand of the Awoken Queen. Having him on earth in that scene now would make no sense.

KwietStorm_BLM4253d ago

Of course it would make sense. You're not being creative enough. Any time you add content to a game, it doesn't have to be in chronological order. We may or may not ever know what was happening during that scene, but it could have been before the story starts or after the ending, or even something in between that just wasn't included in the main story for whatever reason.

-Foxtrot4253d ago

Whatever you say Bungie

You're part of Activision now, your souls belong to them.

OmegaShen4253d ago

Still far better then EA, plus I got the pass with my game. So I won't need to buy each dlc.

pwnsause_returns4253d ago (Edited 4253d ago )

how about this, both are bad.... Activision and EA alike.....

OmegaShen4253d ago

No, because EA sell broken game with microtrans and dlc. Some, not even close.

Plus its a good thing Bungie left Microsoft, they be stuff making Halo games. Just like Rare stuck making Kinect games.

pwnsause_returns4253d ago

they just both bad period. lets not just leave EA as the worst company, both are terrible. They both close out studios to their benefit, they milk their games with DLC like crazy, they both wanted DRM to happen, i can go on and on.

the only difference is, EA does it in the open as if they dont give a crap what we think, until they start losing $$$

-Foxtrot4253d ago (Edited 4253d ago )

Difference is with EA though, if you salvage through the wreckage of the games they've ruined you can usually find a few which are still playable.

Activision however...well every game they make is just poor quality

CerealKiller4253d ago

They may decide to add in 1 or 2 more enemies so technically it is not finished yet.

KingKelloggTheWH4253d ago

You guys do realize that most companies work on aspects of DLC while they are creating the main of the game? (not saying that it is in this one, cause it seems 80% was already done here) but if you look at 343/previous Halos you can see they had a bunch of DLC done (or near) ahead of the release date as well.

Fireseed4253d ago

Oh that'd be perfectly understandable if a game in production for 5 years didn't have the anemic amount of content Destiny has. The Halo games have PLENTY of content in them to merit anything else being DLC. Destiny on the other hand feels like it's a DLCs worth of a game marked at full price

OmegaShen4253d ago

Maybe because Destiny is more of a MMO then a FPS? Did you ever thing of that fireseed?

Look at WoW, its nothing but dlc and it works.

averagejoe264253d ago

You're seriously trying to say that a halo game had more content than all of destiny?

Riiiight

Fireseed4253d ago (Edited 4253d ago )

@Omega

Destiny is NOT an MMO, 26 people per sever is not qualifying enough of an MMO. Besides in each WoW expansion theirs YEARS worth of content. In Destiny you will literally be retreading the same 21 missions over and over again. And WoW works because even if the missions are somewhat samey each one has an interesting and in-depth story explained as to why you're doing it. In Destiny each and every single one of the 21 missions has little to no story to it. (More Below.)

@Average

Yeah. Yeah I am. On top of Halos already impressive pedigree for MP the SP has a deep and engaing story. I could get into the little details but here's how I'll summarize it for ya. The length of each games cinematics.

Halo 1: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
56:51

Halo 2: http://youtu.be/UrIrI4FJZ0A
56:19

Halo 3: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
51:02

Halo 3 ODST: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
48:19

Halo: Reach: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
1:02:31

Halo 4: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
https://www.youtube.com/wat...
2:36:13

Destiny: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
29:15

Now I'm not saying that just because a game has more cut scenes makes it neccesarily better. But ffs Destiny cut it down to the bare bone. And outside of cutscenes we all know well enough Dinklebot really doesn't have anything worth while to say about the story. So in terms of content... yeah Halo blows Destiny out of the water.

BiggerBoss4253d ago

Destiny having some DLC doesn't bother me. Having content LOCKED AWAY ON THE DISK does bother me. It's like they cut out parts of the game just to sell for extra money. This explains why we still can't go into Kings Watch or Jovian Complex though -.-

ScottyHoss4253d ago

Let's just hope it's free content (as unlikely as that is, due to the fact they didn't say it's going to be added)

KwietStorm_BLM4253d ago

But that content on the disc may not, or even probably isn't finished. It isn't uncommon at all for the groundwork to be laid out. It's only when someone stumbles upon said content that everyone gets up in arms.

Microsoft bought all of Zenimax Media for 7 billion, while Sony paid 4 billion for Bungie. I think Microsoft got the better deal due to acquiring Fallout, ElderScrolls and Doom.

anast627d ago

This can't be true. They only bought Starfield...

So you're saying that Microsoft has missed out on so many huge gaming franchise in the last 25 years from GTA exclusivity to guitar hero and destiny it's just laughable they had so many misses

Reaper22_627d ago

Yea, but they're still 100 times more wealthy than Sony. I would say it worked out well.

Gamingsince1981626d ago

Xbox is dead all that money doesn't help.

Hypertension140626d ago

What has work out well? It sure as hell had nothing to do with Xbox.

andy85626d ago

That isn't because of Xbox though. This is a gaming page, not an I get supplemented by father Windows page

Bathyj626d ago

Microsoft's money has nothing to do with Xbox.
Xbox is a money pit to them they would love to ditch but are after some ROI first.

Let's face it, Xbox is like a red headed stepchild that steals from you to buy drugs.

Hofstaderman626d ago (Edited 626d ago )

MIicrosoft is NOT XBOX. The current situation illustrates this. And Microsoft wants its ROI.

@Bathyj and daddy Satya has just force admitted Phil to rehab.

gold_drake626d ago

you know why MS has so much money, and it aint cause of the gaming xbox branch.

so lets not kid ourselves.

PhillyDonJawn626d ago

Xbox was shown to be more profitable than ps

jznrpg626d ago

@PhillyDownJawn not more profitable. More revenue with ABK acquisition but them going multiplat shows they are not making much profit

ocelot07626d ago

That's great for Xbox gamers ain't it that Microsoft are more wealthy than Sony. Is that really a argument use are using now lol?

Imagine me in my job. Arguing with a fellow security guard at another company. Hahah well the company I work for is worth £800m the one you work for is only work £600m!

626d ago
Knightofelemia626d ago

Microsoft may have more money but Sony has the talented studios and the games to back up those studios.

Plus turning down Marvel too. Spiderman is only exclusive to Playstation because of that

Hedstrom626d ago

Best deal deal in gaming must be when Sony bought Insomniac for 229 million dollars. They made over 800 millions on Spiderman for the ps4 alone. Thats just crazy!

XBManiac626d ago

More in the 1.000 million now.

gold_drake626d ago

another Interview?

how is he the only one who loves the spotlight as much as he does lol

Futureshark626d ago

Let's not forget he also famously passed on Spider-man, Genshin Impact and GTA3.

However it's almost kind of cute how he can keep that sh1t-eating grin and say he's a 'no regrets' kind of guy, especially when you think how much just these 5 titles could have swung the world in Xbox's favour instead of Sonys.

How he's kept his job I don't know, he must sure be keeping Papa Nadella's shaft warm somehow.

"But, but Gamepass, he introduced that!!!"

Yes he did, and now look at Xbox, all it's exclusives are coming to Playstation now rendering the platform obsolete.

DarXyde626d ago

Honestly, with that kind of track record, you can't convince me Spencer hasn't eaten it from the back in the name of self preservation. Probably unwashed...and at least twice.

That aside, my interpretation of everything here is Xbox has been mismanaged a bit too much and Nadella came down from his throne. The way it is now, I don't believe for a minute the multiplatform move was Spencer's idea. I don't even think the acquisitions was Spencer's work. At this point, I reckon he's got as much power in his role as Hunter Biden at a Ukrainian energy company.

DivineHand125626d ago

You can never tell how things will turn out if he had said yes to those games. Xbox already has access to some great IPs, however, they hardly do anything with them or fail to deliver. It's also possible their presentation wasn't good at the time, and they made sure the next presentation was better.

I believe that part of being successful is releasing things in the right place at the right time.

Many major corporations have a story similar to passing on successful business ideas. Let us look at Sony Pictures for example. Back when Marvel went bankrupt, they had the opportunity to buy the entire Marvel for only $25 Million but turned them down. An unnamed big shot at Sony reportedly claimed that “nobody gives a shit about any of the other Marvel characters,”. They ended up taking Spiderman for $10 Million instead.

https://www.avclub.com/sony...

Fast forward to today, we can see what the Marvel brand has done for Disney. Is it possible the same success would have been possible had Sony acquired those IPs. We can't say that for sure and it is possible most of those IPs that are successful today may not have been used.
