Sources: NHL 15 team lost developers

When EA Sports announced that its NHL franchise was going to wait an extra year to make it’s debut on the next-gen consoles from Microsoft and Sony, many fans were both disappointed and exited.

Disappointed because of having to wait a full year, but excited for what the development team was going to bring to the franchise as it transitioned to the newer systems. Unfortunately, fans were left severely angered and disappointed when the announcement came from EA Sports regarding game modes and features that weren’t going to be included in the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of the game.

Gone were modes like EA Sports Hockey League, GM Connected, Live the Life and Online Team play, among others. Features like drafting for your team in Be-A-GM wasn’t available at launch and the ability to play as your AHL affiliate in the mode is gone. And that’s just part of it, but you can read more about the game’s missing features and modes here.

But why, after admitting that the team had been working on NHL 15 for two years, was the game so stripped of features and modes that had become commonplace for the franchise on the last-gen systems? Well, there is actually a very reasonable explanation for it all.

I was going to pick this game up as I haven't played a NHL game in a while and I loved the demo. I heard about all the missing features and check up on the rumors and decided to skip it because a ton of features are missing. Maybe next year when a full game is released they will get my money

Azmatik4207d ago

Ya me too i skiped it because all the features missing i did like the demo but noticed it wasnt as "clear" as everyone was saying then i researched to find it only runs in 720p that was the last breaking point to me considering games like shadow of mordor on ps4 is runing 1080p/60fps they really messed up on this game and personally give them no excuse at all period

lol it looked great to me but then again the last NHL I played was 08. 15 was going to be my jump back into the franchise seeing as there are fewer local multiplayer games.

"But why, after admitting that the team had been working on NHL 15 for two years"

I cannot find the first interview in which the wording can be easily mistaken for them taking an extra year on new-gen. But basically it went as follow from my own perspective mind you

; "Since all EA Sports games will use the same engine from now on & we're too lazy to develop our own thing , we will wait an extra year so the other EA Sports studios can work on stuff that we'll take & tweak for our own game. Yea we're lazy like that :D :D :D :D :D :D .

This.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks this game had a two year dev cycle because it flat out didn't.

Nothing was carried over from last Gen versions so they had to start from scratch. That's why it was missing so much.

SuperBlur4207d ago

I won't give the devs shit for what we got at release but i am going to based on the "little" things that still plague this game, the cheese goals , the "take the lead and start ragging the puck for the rest of the game" , the buggy goals like the one seen where the guy dump the puck in the corner and somehow it is a goal ?... i think the NHL series needs a breath of fresh air , a new team to carry on the series , right now they are doing too much wrong to make up for what they do right , imo.

NHL 2015 was a big disappointment. They should make more quality modes for next game. Also some manager mode would be nice and of course .... Bring it to pc

Bought the Ultimate edition, sold it. Biggest regret.

At least NHL 16 shipped as a complete product. Still waiting on goalies and d-men that act real. I have a feeling I'll be waiting several more years.

I went back and watched the whole series. And I don't even like hockey or hockey games lol Guy is real funny

Sale So disappointing again thought they would step up leading to E3. hopefully better deals on playstation.

Saving it all for next week perhaps?

RiPPn3952d ago

Since the Xbox One launch Microsoft sales have been garbage.. I have $30 expiring in 2 weeks that I'm probably going to have to spend on full price content because of how lame these sales are. Hoping for an Ori sale next week during E3.

Your $$$ do not expire regardless of your Live status. Just pay by the month, first month is a free trial before payments begin. Usually available through your PC, not the dashboard.
