MGS4 CAN sell PS3 systems and it already has. MGS4 coming out on the PS3 this June was like Gears of War 2 coming out for the 360 later on this year. MGS4 may be a "niche" game title for a certain group of people, but I'm certain that there was a lot of other people that had not played a MGS game before and picked up MGS4 for the PS3 just because they knew that it was a talked about game and it was very anticipated. Also, the way that Kojima made MGS4, it is more appealing to more people, so that "niche" of MGS4 is almost thrown out the window, because anyone that has played Splinter Cell, Uncharted, or any 3rd person action game can enjoy MGS4.

I never doubted MGS4's ability to sell PS3 hardware for a second.

I can try to answer that because of an experience I had on Sunday. I was in Gamestop buying the SNK collection for my PSP when I overheard a mom at the front counter with her son. She asked him "what is it you wanted?" And he replied "A PSP." Then the Gamestop employee talked her out of buying a PSP and got her to buy him a DS instead because he was 8. She then asked him if he wanted Nintendogs to which he replied "NO I WANT A PSP!" So there you have it folks. A true story and possible reason everyone is buying those DSL's.

ps3 out sells 360 world wide on a monthly basis. they out sell them every time, every where. they out sold them WW in '07 and the way its looking there going to outsell them WW in '08. and sony hasn't even woken up yet. like who does that? do you know what sonys pushing right now? let me clear something up real quick. you got a system that comes out at 600$, ok its selling pretty good for being so expensive. do you know what sony has to focus on wile staying in the game? ok, wii got a hand held and a wii. misrosoft just got the 360 to improve on as much as they want. now sony got, a hand held,a ps3, and a ps2 thats still in production. so when you think about it their doing like 4 times more work than MS and twice the amount of work the wii is doing. they got to keep up with devs for the ps2 and keep it in production with games and hardwear. keep up with devs for the psp and work on the psp firmware up-dates and the games and new ip's. and keep up with devs for the ps3 and work on the ps3 firmwere up-dates as well. thats not all. mean wile they still have to work on accessory's, new gadgets such as the transformer and the "ps3mote", HOME is a big project ther working on on top of that. mean wile they have a ton of games in production right now from their own. they just brought out QORE. and they have a ton of more stuff to work on such as the videostore and the ps3 slim.

ok the wii- hand held, console,wii fit, wii games. they dont have up-dates for the DS, there not changing there controller or making anything new at the moment. there swarming with third party devs. they got it pretty good, but microsoft has it the best and your not really seeing that much from them except there buying games (taking the easy way out)

Just last month the 360 outsold the PS3. Do you release that most of the people who will buy MGS4 have already bought a PS3 when it first came out or within the first week of the MGS4 release? the game is frontloaded, 300,000 more people aren't going to buy a PS3 for MGS4. Especially when the game is selling to the same core fanbase. The series launches are about the same every single time. Only MGS3 was significantly lower than the others.

We will have to see how word of mouth spreads about the game. Next weeks figures should be pretty interesting. Its one of the best games ever made so I think word of mouth will do just fine.

Hideo has made a masterpiece in a game and as lucky as we PS3 owners are it would be nice, seeing it as a gamer, that everyone who loves games would get a chance to play this amazing game and see why we PS3 fans worship Hideo so much. I have so many good mixed emotions when playing MGS4 and never have I felt such a deep involvement in a game.

I cant agree with you there. Hideo and Konami definitely deserve the success for taking the risk and going all out. But so does the PS3 for the same reasons. Sony could have easily put out PS2.5 the way M$ did with XB, but they made all the hard decisions at the risk of unpopularity and now its paying of and the world can see it.

MGS's and PS3's success deserves to go hand in hand and if it means some people with Xboxes have to buy a PS3 to get to play the grandest game ever made, then good. Its good for PS3, its fans, and justifies Kojima's decision to make it exclusive. This game will still be influencing peoples decision to buy a PS3 for 2 or 3 years to come and I bet devs like Aquatic Dreams and Media Molecule are thinking they made the right choice too.

but it pains me to see the greatest game imo not sell more than other lesser games like Halo3 and GTA4. It really does suck big time. When all is said and done i believe MGS4 will sell more than any of the previous entires to sell about 8-9million but that is not enough imo. Kojima and co deserve nothing but the best for giving us nothing but the best.

The MGS4 sales are actually much, much better than expected but i was secretly hoping that the majority of PS3 owners would realise that MGS is truly a gem and would push the majority of them to buy MGS4 so that it would sell just as many copies as other great PS games like FF and GT. God knows that this game of all games deserves it.

Edit:@bathyj Good points as usual and you are right. Sony also deserves a big congratulations for haveing the guts to take huge risks with the PS3. Its always what i love about the PS brand. People always take cheap shots at Sony for thinking big and takeing risk to advance gaming unlike the others which play safe. MS and Nin really didn't bring anything new to the table this gen come to think of it and yet Sony is getting all the flak for trying their best to deliver on their vision.

Wow 360 is just slightly ahead of PS2. What is going on? That system just won't go down. But the way I see it, as long as the PS2 is alive and kicking, the Wii will have trouble beating its sales. :)

I'm actually inclined to disagree. I think a lot of people will avoid it initially because they don't like stealth games, but as it gets around that MGS4 can be played as a solid third-person shooter instead if you so choose, more people will give it a shot.

It's great to see PS3 finally getting some AAA games like MGS4 and the upcoming LBP and Resistance 2. Don't count MS out yet eagle21 they have some great titles coming (like Gears2 and Fable2) Underestimating the competition is what got Sony off to such a bad start this generation.

I am not counting MS out, just knocking them to third place in my mind...lol

Gears 2 won't change the momentum of PS3 this year. They should have had a summer game. MGS4 is the ONLY game this summer with GOTY potential. It will be over once November roles around dude.

Halo 2.5 was a terrible game with a billion dollar advertising campaign that brainwashed every 13 year old boy in America to buy it. No one cares about that sh1t. We're interested in real games (MGS4).

Anyway...at this rate, Microsoft better look at more than just Capcom when planning their "purchases".
The big thing that is happening here goes beyond pure sales numbers.
It's the growing awareness of what the PS3 has to offer, now, and in the near future. I didn't quite believe it before, but it almost seems as if people are becoming a little disillusioned with the 360 and what it has to offer and are taking note of the PS3.

But, let's see if this is just a spike, or really the start of something much bigger.

mgs4 is a much more mature game than halo if you ask me, halo would appeal to a much wider spectrum of ages so of course it makes sense that it sold more, plus it had insane hype, to all our disappointment it was not all what it was hyped to be, but besides that, you're telling me that mgs4 wont do well!

Straight up. 360 sales should really be picking up at this point in its life (now that it has been out long enough to go mass market). Instead its slowing down. M$ has already blown their load, while Sony is just beginning its attack. With future-proof technology, the most trusted name in gaming, reliable hardware, and tons of huge titles releasing over the next two years, Sony can look forward to domination once again.

Halo 3 was a great and fun game... maybe you should go back and read the reviews or play the game yourself with some friends. The campaign and the multiplayer are alot of fun.

I played the campaign twice, once on hard, then legendary. Playing it 4 player co-op with your friends was alot of fun and still is to this day. And the multi-player is one of the best multi-player ever made. It's the game used for major league gaming.

anyways, it's a fun game that entertains the young and old that shouldn't be compared to another, especially MGS4 that is aimed for the hardcore, and i doubt anyone truly regrets buying it.

I think you need to consider which one was a worldwide success in software for MGS4 vs. Halo 3 as opposed to a national success

Note: In no way am I pitting the two games together just analyzing the numbers of 1 mil and 3 mil after 1 week

#1 This is data for only one day of MGS4 being out, so we don't know how much it sold on its first week.

#2 MGS4 has earned these sales by being an amazing game. Halo 3 only sold so well because people will buy no matter if its good or not.

this is week 1, it probably sold over 2 million. thats good for a game with a lower install base and a lower fan base. mgs4 dosnt suite every one, but halo basically does, so you can go wrong with those sales. is kills every game there is out there, and thats all that matters.

The 360 was out a full year ahead of the PS3 and sold over 8 million of its total prior to the PS3 even being available.
