I think the game is a solid 7 bumped up to an 8/9 for fun factor. Overall the game is compelling and addictive yet for a review score, it's hard to overlook the extremely poor story and some of the obviously flawed game design mechanics.

If there is a general trend amongst review scores which in the case of Destiny is a 6-7.5 then there is no denying that there were fundamental flaws with the game but instead of people critcizing the game so Bungie knows what they need to improve on the next installment they would rather come up with conspiracys like all the reviewers banded together in an elaborate scheme or that they weren't paid by the publisher and would rather believe that than their most hyped game being a disappointment.

I think the review scores are accurate, but I also think a 6 or 7 out of 10 game can still be a fun experience and one I want to play. I just am not going to run around saying GOTY for it.

The story sucks but the entire game is friggin awesome!!!

It's a solid 7 with the potential to be a solid 7.5 if more (free) content comes available.

- The story was just not there, and just because it's a shared world shooter doesn't mean there couldn't be one. The article grossly overlooks the fact that there was plenty of lore to go around in the (dumbly executed) offline card adventure thingy they tried to set up. If only more of that was accessible and playable within the game.

- As far as gameplay, yeah it's fun. However, there's not a lot of it. There's only so many times you can run through the same Strike even with friends before your eyes start to bleed. I was hyped yesterday for the Raid, but even watching teams play on twitch started to edge into boredom. So even if you believe gameplay trumps all (even if it can coexist with story and other aspects), there's just not enough unique aspects to it to merit an 8+ score

Destiny is a good game. It really is not what people necessarily wanted. Will it be remembered fondly a year from now (gameplay)? Maybe. Will it be remembered a year from now for the awesome story? No. Will anyone want to see it re-mastered or re-released 5 years from now? Certainly not.

The critics got it right for me. I wasn't even hyped for the game until I played the alpha. Huge disappointment and failure to me. Waste of $. Its like borderlands 2 without any soul and alot less content. Plus a ton more grinding required and relying on expansions.

I've played it loads, and understand the story will be developed over time as will the missions and classes. I enjoy it , and I personally don't agree with the low marks.

Man did this game special treatment. I guess I know where some of that $500 million went. It took so much from so many other games that did it better. Seriously what did Destiny do better than Borderlands, Diablo 3, and Mass Effect?

Well the game was not marketed as an MMO, it was marketed like a complete experience with single player, Co-Op and P VP.. so if it fails in one of the areas that's fair criticism

Sooo the critic's opinions are wrong? Okay got it, this post lost any relevance for me with that title. If you disagree with their reviews that's fine, if you use those words in the title that's fine but to say their opinions and reviews are wrong is just childish.

An opinion is neither right nor wrong. Learn to accept the fact that others will differ from yours.

i didnt buy destiny for story/tutorial.. i bought it for the co-op and competititive online gaming folks. its a solid 9 for i want more destiny to be perfect.

Critics? Most gamers and critics feel the same about Destiny. It's an average game, nothing special.

most gamers? how about your friends list huh? when millions of gamers are playing a game there are going to be a very small percentage of "most gamers".

it looks like "most gamers" are on destiny articles shedding tears because they bought a competitive online shooter and was expecting a academy award winning summer block buster movie to watch.

Activision's marketing of Destiny is their own downfall! Game was to over-hyped and would only fend off criticism if it got 10's all round.

The only terrible thing about the game is the story. The co-op and levelling are addicting.

The game is at least a solid 8. Most people that gave this a bad score probably didn't experience all it had to offer.

There are many ways to review games, I have a few, never a single method:

1) Personal scoring comparing to overall fun-ness and other games I have played, quality, et cetera.

2) Compare it to what it is doing regardless of other games, similar or not. Does THIS game do what it is trying to do well?

3) Technically, visuals, stability, et cetera.

In this instance I think Destiny doesn't nearly live up to any hype, but does what it does very well. Super solid shooter ... you shoot, that's it. Clean menus and UI, controls, visuals.

My personal score remains a 6.3 out of 10.

I've totally addicted to it since launch, playing with some friends...great start for an ambitious project like this one.
Shame about the poor story present though.

For now I would rate it 8, no doubt, Eurogamer got it right.

Can't wait for Halo on my ps5.

I always thought Guitar Hero was boring the button clicking with the plastic guitar also got annoying. I played it twice with friends but I was also drunk and stoned. There are people who like Destiny but I never liked the game.
