Still, the fact that it covers only 2 days of MGS4 effect, both on software and hardware should be noted. Wonder how a full week's number will look.

I think people were expecting MGS4 to move like a million consoles.

However in reality, system sellers don't move many units alone, it's exclusives and great multiplatform games that sell consoles, collectively.

Never-the-less, MGS4 is a game that help justifies that $400 price tag. The timing of the release is great too, next really big game won't be until august which is Madden.

ok, so does that mean its better? every one was waiting for halo to come out, that was the best game on xbox to most people. so why wouldn't it sell alot? mgs4 isnt for every one, halo is for kids/adults and suites both the casual gamer and the hardcore gamer. of course its going to sell alot. but did it really live up to the hype? the majority points to no. sales dont matter when its the best game made to this date. it could of had poor sales and still be the best game.

It's fair to say that NA is no longer 360's turf.

MS just can't get it right even in their home court. Maybe the next xbox can do better if they release it 2 years in advance instead of one.....Then again, failure rate could go up 50%............ Never mind.

One and only game actually selling? Try 15 million sellers on the PS3 actually selling. Don't get it twisted. The "PS3 has no games" is bull and you know it since the 360 has nothing to look forward to except GOW2 & Fable and don't say the GTA4 exclusive content since that's all the way to 2009 and people will playing something else than one game for the year.

MGS4 only had 2 days out of 7 to affect the PS3 sales of this week which came to about 120K. I would go as far as to say that the first 5 days saw lower than normal PS3 sales because people were waiting for the 12th of June for the 80giger or the MGS4 bundle. Now factoring the fact that all the major critics say that MGS4 is a masterpiece which it is and also the fact that Kojima made MGS4 more accessiable. I wouldn't be surprise if the total PS3 sales in NA for June is more than 400K. How many x360 consoles did Halo 3 move in NA in its first month of release?.

MGS4 was always the smallest of the big 3 PS3 exclusives. FF and GT are way bigger franchise so imagine when those bad boys drop. GoW3 also has the potential to be a mega hit like the big 3. MGS however will always remain my fav franchise.

I picked up one of the 80GB bundles last week so I'd be ready for BioShock come fall. This is THE game that had me considering the purchase of a 360, but MS hasn't really done enough to convince me that the reliability issues with 360 have actually been resolved.

Eventually I'll get around to playing MGS4, but right now I'm playing through my newly acquired PS3 library in alphabetical order which currently has me wondering how Midway managed to screw up a game with "Area 51" in the title.

MGS4 sold to 10% of the US install base in two days! It outsold the 360 by almost 2.5-1 last week. And this is in June. It also outsold the Wii WW this week, which the 360 is NEVER going to be able to say ever again.

LOL thats so funny. I didnt think people could spin those sales, but apparently I was wrong. Selling half a million in two days to a 5,000,000 install base is impressive. By the end of the week it will have outsold both Bioshock and Mass Effect. This, BTW, is the PS3's 4th biggest title. The death of the 360 continues. I just wonder what they'll say one the PS3 finally passes the 360, lol.

Wow, great numbers, add up this and europe and Japan, and you got over a mil day one easy.

I've never played a game so eye opening in my life. It's so beautiful and for us MGS fans that have grown up with the series it's amazing how Kojima made it more accessible for newcomers but was able to maintain the difficulty and complexity we've come to love.

This game reminds me of the first time I played Resident Evil 4 on the GC and how it impressed me. Than when I played Super Mario 64, Ocarina Of Time, Chrono Trigger, Half-Life 2. I mean this game is so amazing and I really wouldn't hesitate to put it in the top 3 of all time in any order. This game really showed what a great game should be like. We had Halo 3 and GTA IV come along. And although great they really had a lot of problems that a these titles shouldn't have had considering the reputation and hype. Kojima has put out a game that really doesn't need a revamped version like he has done with previous versions.

Oh and good to see the amazing sales and hopes it continues where the best system with the better titles continues to prosper. Not a fanboy remark but watching the Wii is very annoying despite owning one and being a big Nintendo fan. Besides Brawl and Galaxy they haven't put any titles to deserve the sales and the ones pushing the system are titles like Wii Fit that although innovative really bring shame to the true gamer.

Now we'll just have to wait and see if the effect is a prolonged one, and by effect I mean the stimulation PS3 sales got from MGS4... Sure do hope so. Or not, depending hugely on when the prices are coming down. I still would like to get my hands on a PS3, but they seem to be a tad too expensive still...

I want to see the full first week (7 days worth) of sales data on MGS4 (including the copy bundled) and see how they compare to the first week total for Halo 3. Same goes for hardware sales for that week as well.

It is the 18th and the game/bundle has been on the market for exactly 7 days. A huge game for PS3 up against a huge game for 360.

Edit: I dont like using vgchartz but it looks like the first week total for halo 3 was upwards of 3.8mil+. Looking at MGS4 it will easily top 1.5mil+ but it strikes me as odd why sony did not promote the sh!t out of this game. Come on Sony...create some demand for your flagship titles by advertising.
