Wii Menu 3.3: Another Useless Update

Jeremy of Exploding Barrel writes: At 11:00 PM central time tonight, my Wii started glowing again, and I was introduced to Wii Menu Version 3.3! What cool new features lay in store for me with my new Wii Menu? I can now move a Mii from the Mii Plaza to the Mii parade in the Mii channel…great. Were people clamoring for the ability to seamlessly move their Mii's from the Mii plaza to the Mii parade Nintendo?

At least they are trying to update the system....but nintendo can not keep up with Sony on the way Sony adds features to the PS3.

With lame hardware comes lame updates. Wii hardware does'nt have the scope too improve like PS3 or 360 hardware does.

Kholinar6527d ago

While I love the ps3's features and the xmb in general, I think it's pretty sad that it's ten times easier to send a photo to someone (or a mii, or a note for that matter) from the wii than from the ps3, which is supposed to be some sort of media center. Sony needs features, sure... but ease of use and streamlining would make some "lame updates" very welcome once we get in-game xmb...

I don't understand.... it is super easy to send a photo to someone, you create a message and hit attach photo! I don't see what is so hard there

Kholinar6527d ago (Edited 6527d ago )

Yep. So I upload my photo to the photo section, exit, open the browser, got to my email program, select a recipient, attach the photo and send.

Whereas with the wii I upload the photo, click send picture, select a recipient and send.

I'm not saying it's terrible, but it's several steps longer and far inferior to most phones, palms, ipod touch/iphone, the wii and most other connected devices or photo software like picasa/iphoto. An email client that's integrated would vastly improve things. From sending messages to personal videos from eyecreate, this needs to get much better.

Errrr....sorry, this isn't meant as an attack, but do you have a PS3? Because you do not even have to touch the internet browser to send someone a photo.

1. Go to Create new message under Friends/Message Box
2. Put in friends PSN ID
3. Click paperclip (attach button) and select a photo on your HD
4. Press send

Not sure what PS3 you've got there or maybe it's time to read the manual :)

I'm glad it isn't an attack, because there's far too much of that around. Yes, I have one.

However, none of my friends have PS3s/PSN memberships. Neither do any of my family, and they are the ones who I'd like to send pics. I'm glad that the Messaging at least has it, but I don't use that on any type of regular basis to send anything (messages or attachments). And, again, it's several extra steps because I'm still leaving the photo application. I just think integrated messaging in any area where you are managing your own media is best or in games where you're generating media. For example, if I play LBP and take a screenshot, I want to be able to send a pic to anyone from right there (not just PSN members). I'll be disappointed if that's not the way sony goes. For that matter, I'd rather have music/video/pictures all as one heading instead of four separate tabs, but I don't expect that.

DanB916527d ago

Oh so you're talking about e-mail. Yeah it sucks you can't access e-mail that well but what can you. At least you get a free browser :)

Kholinar6527d ago

yeah, I mean, I love the thing. There are just a few things that bug me.

When I first got mine, I had owned a wii for about a year. So jumping into the ps3 menu was like the difference between a lake and a pond. Especially in the settings menu there was a lot to get thru. So for a couple of hours I was just giddy and even overwhelmed at times. Then I got used to it, and, like a lot of complex things, it simplified with use. After that there were just several things that really annoyed me and seemed counterintuitive. I hope sony has people working on them, because I love the system and want to see it succeed.

wait..wai..wait... you can move miis to the mii parade now...come on guys this is INNOVATION!!.

Alexander Roy6527d ago

Useless? It circumvents some hacks, that's most likely all they wanted it to do, kinda like 80% of the PSP updates.

DR-IVO6527d ago

people actually keep their wii plugged in? I cant stand that glowing light, it comes on randomly and makes my room glow in the middle of the night. sometimes I wake up and I think i'm being abducted.

Kholinar6527d ago

I can see how that'd be annoying, but I'm sure some of us keep it plugged in and connected because it's not in our bedrooms.

I power mine completely down at night. I have a dual WiiMote charger.. that lights up blue as well... talk about crazy blue going on.

Having the Charger have tons of running blue LED's when not being used is a horrible design flaw.

You can simply turn off the LED on the Wii through settings.

"Having the Charger have tons of running blue LED's when not being used is a horrible design flaw. "

Wow, I agree. Which third party made one that silly? Just so I can warn my friends.

N4g_null6527d ago

You can turn that off you know? It's in the options.

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree8d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai8d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

Hideo Kojima put Low Roar in Death Stranding because gamers need more culture in their lives

It's important in life to maintain a broad palette when it comes to culture and the arts. Hideo Kojima agrees, as he continues to use video games like Death Stranding to introduce people to music and other elements they might not otherwise discover.
