Face-Off: Metro Redux

Some might say that Deep Silver did everything it could to address the various controversies surrounding current-gen console remasters with the launch of its remarkable Metro Redux. 4A Games handed in code that was a truly transformative experience compared to its PS3 and Xbox 360 predecessors, it significantly improved and modernised Metro 2033 and the publisher did its best to bypass the 'rip-off cash-in' arguments often levelled at remasters by bundling both games together in a retail package available in the UK for less than £30. But what about PC?

I still want to buy this. Would really help bypass time till Destiny.

Heisenburger4279d ago

I'm going to be playing 2033(for the first time) and HOPEFULLY Costume Quest 2, Halloween day and night, assuming that I do not work.

Good job 4A for making Metro Redux look competitive with the pc version.

And to think that people thought that console style optimizations was dead this gen.

MadLad4279d ago (Edited 4279d ago )

It's more in-house engine optimization than it is console optimization.
They've had four years since 2033's original release to make things run better.
Truth be told, the current gen consoles would not have been able to run Metro 2033 in its original state nearly as well as they are here.

To the people disagreeing, if console tech wasn't a limiting factor here, then why is there evidence of reduced texture quality in a number of areas found in the Redux version?
The textures were already in place. They literally went back in and reduced their overall quality . . .

There's no talking to people sometimes. They literally just shoo away anything they don't want to hear.

The PC version looks awesome and I'm happy with it. It looks great even on my gtx 880m with very high settings. I almost bought the redux of 2033 for ps4 but I realized it doesn't look as sharp as the PC version.

ironmonkey4279d ago

nice to see the ps4 looking better.

Despite having my doubts about my PS4 pre-order as I already had both titles on my gaming rig PC (although non of the DLC) I was pleasantly surprised.

Game plays & feels much better than the original PC counterpart (Being on the big screen with surround sound helps) but it looks great on consoles. Sitting at a distance of 8 feet away from my big screen it easily stands up to my 1080p Ultra settings on my gaming rig. It's crystal clear, smooth as silk, amazing lighting. like the article says the animations facial textures could of been improved but this is a 'remaster' that actually stands up to that claim.

£25 was an absolute bargain for it!

Angerfist4279d ago

Yes. It looks really nice. Textures are sharp all the way through. Gameplay has variety and play at night or a dark room and the atmosphere is amazing. Plus all DLC you are looking at 30+ hours of Gameplay.
