After Capcom announced in June that it is now open to acquisition offers, Continue Play's Chad Bonin provides a speculative look at a possible future where Nintendo stepped to snap up the Street Fighter and Resident Evil publisher.

We'd finally get a MegaMan game.
It would also be a good chance to get Devil May Cry in PG's hands.

Kane224284d ago

dmc is fine the way it is. platinum would change it too much. gameplay wise

Summons754284d ago

"Platinum would change it to much"

Except the creator of DMC works there and created Bayonetta which is the closest thing we have to a real DMC after NT killed it single handedly. PG would be perfect for DMC

ZoidsRaven4284d ago

How? You know who Kamiya is, right?

OpieWinston4284d ago

I doubt Platinum would want to work on that, at least for a little while.
Kamiya has his hands full with Scalebound atm.

Roccetarius4284d ago (Edited 4284d ago )

Then the DMC game would just be exclusive, so i'd rather see it landing somewhere else. Stay 3rd party, then we could see what would happen.

No thanks. :)

Tony-Red-Grave4284d ago

The biggest issue with nintendo buying out capcom, if they could, would be that every IP would now be nintendo exclusive, Aside from that there's no guarantee that each games developers would even stay onboard.

That being said people who want Kamia to work on a DMC game need to realise Kamia hasn't made a DMC1 esque game, in gameplay or atmosphere, since splitting with capcom. I'd go as far as to say he could ruin Dantes character given how anime-esque bayonetta.

But that aside Kamiya has moved on for the better and as a result has his own companies and makes his own games. I don't see why he'd want to return to DMC other then making money off fanboys.

ZoidsRaven4284d ago

I can see why it would suck for some, but when it comes to being a fan of a franchise, most would just support the IP regardless of platform.

If Sony gets their hands on MegaMan, I'd be buying a PS4 and Vita. It's just that simple to me.
I can see where you are coming from, but me wanting DMC in PG's hands is as simple as that. DMC being a Nintendo, Sony, XBox or PC exclusive is not my point, DMC made by PG is. 7_7

Roccetarius4284d ago (Edited 4284d ago )

After giving it some thought, i believe you've lost your mind. Multiplatform titles going exclusive, that's the worst case scenario for any fanbase. Only the company owning it benefits from it. Supporting a game regardless of platform, that's BS that businesses loves to hear.

Platinum Games may be great, but it's not the right fit for it at all. Itsuno is still with Capcom, and he's the only one capable of creating a great DMC game currently.

Scalebound following the example of the ugly dino character model, that's a new low for Platinum as well. I was expecting them to do better than that.

ZoidsRaven4284d ago (Edited 4284d ago )

Sorry, but I'm not getting involved in fanboy BS. I support the games, not the platform.
All I said was "DMC being a Nintendo, Sony, XBox or PC exclusive is not my point, DMC made by PG is".
That doesn't mean I want it to be exclusive, PG is a 3rd party after all... Multiplatform or not, a PG DMC would be interesting to see.

It's a shame so many saw my post as "ZOMG NINTENDO FANBOY WANTS DMC TA BEH WII U EXCLUSIVE", when all I wanted was a company (not Capcom) to make a MegaMan game and see PG make a Devil May Cry game. I suppose that's my fault for lack of information on the context of my post (didn't think I needed to go into details).

If Platinum Games is (in your own words) "great", it's completely reasonable for someone to want to see them make a game from a franchise that is good. It's like when people want to see Retro make a [insert Nintendo IP here] game.

"Scalebound following the example of the ugly dino character model, that's a new low for Platinum as well."

......Tell us feel you really feel. XD
In all seriousness, PG has many art styles to choose from that are not like Scalebound. Why are you bringing that up?

Before I run out of bubbles, seriously tell me where you are going with this. 7_7

That would be highly unfortunate

Kane224284d ago

capcom needs to remain 3rd party.

Chrischi19884283d ago

And what if not? What if Nintendo would buy them and get all their games exclusive? I know, you guys still would not get a Wii U, just because its a Wii U and not because the games wpuld be great or not.

Kane224283d ago

cause i don't want to see games being held down down by wii u's limitations. plus i know nintendo will try and turn certain games into a new direction.

EdoubleD4284d ago

That would be really annoying.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS50d ago (Edited 50d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Take note, Sony, you're falling behind by a lot.

-Foxtrot58d ago (Edited 58d ago )

I was just going to say this, their biggest and top rated game here is TLOU2 for PC….it’s embarrassing.

Even Ubisoft and EA are ahead

Kind of surprised Nintendo is pretty low aswell, their biggest game is also a rerelease with the Switch 2 version of TotK.

StoneColdCrazy57d ago

That’s what happens when you start shutting down your own studios and forget what actually made you matter in the industry in the first place. Sony used to set the standard — now it feels like they’ve lost that identity. And if they decide to walk away from the PC market too, that’s going to be another huge mistake — that platform is only growing, and ignoring it now would just put them even further behind.

1Victor58d ago

@christopher:” Take note, Sony, you're falling behind by a lot.”
.
Why single out Sony? Microsoft didn’t do any better than the year before 5th same as Sony 9th and they have acquired activision and other mayor titles that have boosted their score massively from a 9th and Sony a 4th the year before the acquisitions.
Sony does need to do better without a doubt and I do hope they do take note but not the note of buying publishers is the way to succeed.

Christopher58d ago

1. Microsoft didn't get worse.
2. Sony got way worse.
3. Because Sony needs the criticism the most considering their publishing output this generation has been propped up by last gen ports and third-party developers for the most part.

thesoftware73058d ago

1Victor,

I don't wanna speak for Christopher, but like most of us we recognize that Sony's output this Gen has been way below their own standards.

Also Sony did buy a fair amount of Devs, I know you will say they were not publishers, and don't compare in size, but they had their fair share of Aquisitions, including the very well established Bungie.

The overall point is with their stellar first party track record of the past, they should not be going down, they are singled out because they are some of the best videogame devs/publisher on the planet...no matter what reasons we attribute to the situation, they are moving in the wrong direction... period.

KyRo57d ago

Its widely accept that Sony this generation has been underwhelming. We've had more peripheral releases, controller variants, PS5 accessories than games it feels like. The exclusives were also PS4 and what little output they have put exclusively on PS5 is nowhere near as memorable as what came in every generation before that.

This isn't a Sony hate post but anyone who's older and has been around for a long time gaming will agree that PS5 is by far Sony's worst generation. As much as Xbox is in the gutter, I pray the do bounce back in the hope we get Sony to wake up again.

darthv7257d ago (Edited 57d ago )

If you want to critique MS... you are doing so towards their management. The games output and their hardware have been much better than PS this gen. Sadly... people still hold a grudge against XB because of MS. Thankfully i am not that petty... I've been enjoying their games output in the drought of PS. And add in some NS1/2 games as well to balance things out. Things will change for me once Wolverine hits, and I start using my 5 more. That one I'm looking forward to. And the Marvel fighter... I'm not a GTA player so that has no bearing on my view of things.

Big part of that has been the live service push resulting in cancellation or flop after flop but when they put out the games their fans want we get amazing stuff like astro bot

Leadership really screwed the pooch trend chasing

Well I apologize I was wrong about not doing worse but my statement of Microsoft getting a boost still stand 🤷🏿

1Victor57d ago

Well OBSCURED unlike you I’m honorable enough to recognize when I’m wrong and apologize.
.
@ The software you know there’s no comparison between what Microsoft acquired and what Sony acquired that’s why you tried to get ahead of the conversation, yes we all know Sony can do better than what they have done this gen but they inhaled the poison GAS they thought would bring money for years but we make sure they got the message and quite a few games got cancelled you know as well a hit like that take years to be corrected and by now they hopefully will have taken steps away from the GAS and slowed their approach to them.

You will say anything when you are in denial that your hardware is dead and nobody wants your platform. Good luck with Helix because nobody will buy it.

But... but... the garbage-mongers always tell us that Square Enix is in trouble! 😂

Christopher58d ago

Square doesn't help that it fear mongers itself with ridiculous 'goals' that they can't reach and then they proclaim failure if they don't reach it. They're quite freaking profitable and people act like they're dying.

SimulationDaily58d ago (Edited 58d ago )

Keep in mind that these "proclamations" are usually third-hand bad translations from somedude who was at the investor conference, posted on Twitter, and picked up by press and youtubers like they were gold, and then when the official translation comes out, they're much softer statements, but at that point, the damage is done.

gold_drake58d ago

to be very fair

being number one on these things does not indicate how "well" their games do selling wise.
