
Considering how expertly Taito reworked Space Invaders' gameplay, prepare to be a bit disappointed by the predictable (if inoffensive) audiovisual overhaul. Your personal enjoyment of the techno soundtrack will vary based on your patience for shrill beeps and drum rushes, but you may need to turn off the PSP version's trippy full-motion-video backgrounds in order to keep up with the action amid the chaos.
But, then again, Space Invaders was never intended to be a graphical powerhouse, and with its solid, pick-up-and-play action and an easily digestible $20 price point, Extreme makes for a perfect summer gaming distraction.
