The Biggest Problem With No Man’s Sky and WiLD

No Man’s Sky was one of the only good things about Spike’s terrible VGX Awards show which took place in December 2013. Since then it has slowly been gaining more momentum, and was recently announced as a timed exclusive for the PS4, with a later release on PC, and no mention of any other platform releases. So why is it so popular? Simple, it was announced as a fully 3D procedurally generated game with an open universe that nobody will ever be able to fully explore.

I think they are going to be awesome , wild looks fantastic and no mans sky is just amazing , i have been waiting for that , since that office flooded , its a bless they were able to continue their work after that . And its a game i must play no matter what after all that waiting just like that damn ffxv and .kh3 . Those are games i will play no matter what so i dont care whats the point of these games , i hate waiting .

Orbilator4305d ago

Well it reminds me of elite. You could just explore or trade or try and get tto elite status. If you actually do your homework the developer stated that every body will have the need to go to the centre of the universe so there will be some mission structure I suppose. Even if not , I don't care, I loved elites openness and just doing what you wanted and elite frontiers took it to the planets too.

Big_Game_Hunters4305d ago

I don't want the devs to tell me, i want them to show me. its been over a year now.

user56695104305d ago

Elite and this are to completely different things and this games has no trading or any other type of infrastructure like that. It is a sandbox type game.

Orbilator4305d ago

consoleslateagain.

Er no they are very similar if you watch playstation access dated 14/8/2014 the developer says you start of with a bad ship, you can then choose to upgrade it via combat in space or trading or finding resources. Now that's elite if ever I heard it. Its a great interview and lasts 17 mins, tells you a lot about gameplay

modesign4305d ago

wheres the star citizen game play, ive just seen tech demos and concept art.

Stapleface4305d ago

Look up videos of Arena Commander. That is the flight simulator for Star Citizen. It's not just a tech demo, it's playable. Even has multiplayer now. It works quite well actually. Still needs some work, but it looks great, and the flight control feels pretty good. You have been able to go into your hangar and enter your ships for a while now.

Conzul4305d ago

We haven't seen any gameplay.
Therefore, logically, it must suck really bad because they're trying to hide it.

/typical backwards n4g logic

Big_Game_Hunters4305d ago

when did i say that? the problem is we haven't seen any gameplay therefore we haven't seen any gameplay. is that so difficult for you to understand?

/typical backwards N4G insecure defensive fanboys.

ChuckTheIceMan4305d ago

I don't see the appeal of this game. Maybe it will all come together but so far it doesn't do it for me.

toddybad4305d ago (Edited 4305d ago )

Er, the video shown at E3 was gameplay.
If you mean you want details of the story or some narrative about how to complete the game and what mysteries may await the player (i.e. spoilers), then I'd rather they didn't tell us.

procedural generation does not appeal to me

mexican people do not appeal to me

It is popular and getting momentum because it is something fresh on consoles and not just another FPS/Hack&Slash/RPG/3rd Person Adventure among an Ocean of them.

Would be good if games like G-Police, Eagle One Harrier Attack, Future Cop LAPD, Panzer Front, those castle building and castle defense/3D Worms take, Twisted Metal/Star Wars Demolition, and other niche genres got a sudden push.
More focus on variety rather than "safe bets regarding genres" from Publishers and Developers.
The reason AAA gaming is so shit is precisely because of the "let's use an over-saturated genre but make it high quality to compensate and play it safe" mantra rather than "let's take a niche genre and something fresh, and outdo it in quality, or revive some old niche games with the best graphical remake we can".
I'd gladly buy a PS4 if this happened in more than 10 instances at least.

DarkOcelet4305d ago

Oh my god you reminded me of Eagle one harrier attack , it was so awesome , used to play it with Ace combat 3 on the ps1 , they were classics and future cop LAPD , thank you for the reminder of such a game i cant believe i forgot , it was so awesome , me and my brother used to play it alot . Its a shame we dont get many flying action simulator games like these except rarely .

Psygnosis3334305d ago

Ace combat 3 was so damn good at the time nothing similar for ps1 (graphicaly and gameplay)...i remamber unlocking secred weapon -laser from the sky

Angeljuice4305d ago

It's not that fresh, Apache Gunship on the C64 had procedurally generated mission maps way back in the mid eighties.

What it adds is a huge amount of replay value. Imagine you play a flight sim
that you really enjoy and love the gameplay, normally you play the missions and wait a year or two for the sequel. You may return to the game now and then for a quick blast but it's not the same as you've finished the game already.
Now think about the same game only this time each mission is new and fresh no matter how many times you play. You could play for years without revisiting the same scenario.
Hopefully the extra RAM in the new consoles will mean we see more and more of these games arriving on the scene. It's far better value for money than a game with a standard campaign.

nippletwister4305d ago

Yeah, with a system of virtually infinite exploration (millions of possible systems to explore),
i'd assume it would be logical to randomly generate an entered system (and planets and surfaces), store all the data on the HDD for future reference and re-visiting of the system (like a made and saved world), and having a good coding system by which there can be randomly generated quests/assets/objects in relation to the aforementioned and on the planet, and then changes in relation to external changes in the Universe whether political or otherwise, on the folders. Meteor strikes making chaos and craters on planets you have visited (and a visible effect afterwards if you re-visit) would be cool. With the sizes of HDDs these days and exponential increases, a lot of content can be randomly generated and stored and then read in the future.
An RTS (city building games) kind of system could be used to randomly change an already established planet's landscape for objects (like colonization) and quests.

Frankly, i'm exhilarated over all the potential games such as these have.

This sparks a flame in me to take up X3: Terran Conflict and play it again now.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4305d ago

The point of no mans sky is to make it to the center of the universe. Exploring planets and finding items will help you do that. There is space combat as well in the game. Wild is still a mystery but the trailer did imply more than just exploration. There was combat hunting and maybe a story.
