No Man’s Sky was one of the only good things about Spike’s terrible VGX Awards show which took place in December 2013. Since then it has slowly been gaining more momentum, and was recently announced as a timed exclusive for the PS4, with a later release on PC, and no mention of any other platform releases. So why is it so popular? Simple, it was announced as a fully 3D procedurally generated game with an open universe that nobody will ever be able to fully explore.
Sean writes: "Last month’s Remnant update caused much hilarity as you tooled with your newfangled gravity guns and customisable exocraft, transporting precarious industrial cargo across uneven terrain in a classic risk vs. reward fight. Our latest update is a whole different beast."

I think they are going to be awesome , wild looks fantastic and no mans sky is just amazing , i have been waiting for that , since that office flooded , its a bless they were able to continue their work after that . And its a game i must play no matter what after all that waiting just like that damn ffxv and .kh3 . Those are games i will play no matter what so i dont care whats the point of these games , i hate waiting .
Gameplay, where is it?
procedural generation does not appeal to me
It is popular and getting momentum because it is something fresh on consoles and not just another FPS/Hack&Slash/RPG/3rd Person Adventure among an Ocean of them.
Would be good if games like G-Police, Eagle One Harrier Attack, Future Cop LAPD, Panzer Front, those castle building and castle defense/3D Worms take, Twisted Metal/Star Wars Demolition, and other niche genres got a sudden push.
More focus on variety rather than "safe bets regarding genres" from Publishers and Developers.
The reason AAA gaming is so shit is precisely because of the "let's use an over-saturated genre but make it high quality to compensate and play it safe" mantra rather than "let's take a niche genre and something fresh, and outdo it in quality, or revive some old niche games with the best graphical remake we can".
I'd gladly buy a PS4 if this happened in more than 10 instances at least.
The point of no mans sky is to make it to the center of the universe. Exploring planets and finding items will help you do that. There is space combat as well in the game. Wild is still a mystery but the trailer did imply more than just exploration. There was combat hunting and maybe a story.
