Zero Suit Samus "Controversy"

GaminRealm: "I normally don't like to "feed the fire" to a topic like this, but I just wanted to give my take on the situation. Is Zero Suit Samus becoming a product of sexism?"

How come every time Nintendo makes a game with even the most subtle mature theme, there's always a controversy behind it?

randomass1714166d ago

Nintendo's known for being kid friendly I guess. But even so, they went out of their way to get Bayonetta 2. Clearly times have changed. :P

lilbroRx4166d ago

No they haven't. Nintendo has always been accepting over mature games, just so long as they weren't trash.

They've published matures games for decades. They just don't make them themselves.

DonDon4166d ago

I believe the zero suit is something Samus wore even way back in the first official manga decades ago. So Nintendo isn't sexualizing her. She always had the suit. Just never wore it in a long time until recently.

lilbroRx4166d ago (Edited 4166d ago )

Actual She wore it at the end over every Metroid games except Prime 1.

She has also always had D Cup breast which I saw a lot of people raging about at one point while suggesting that Nintendo had enlarged them recently. They didn't.

Smear ccampaign. ... fanboys trying to troll.

I believe most of this BS is coming from new Metroid fans who have not the experience to know what they are talking about. If they were old school Metroid fans, they would know Samus had even less clothes than that in the past. They keep acting like they've lost a strong female video game character when it comes to Samus, but when did what a character wears have anything to do with how strong they are?

"Okay surely if you have a problem with the images above you can give a loud D’Ron Maingrette Smash commentator style “BANNED!” to the below images."

I remember saying something along those lines to someone a ways back.
I also remember the idiot replying with:

"There's a difference between real life women choosing to dress in bathing suits and wear makeup, and (mostly) male game designers creating female characters who wear bathing suits to appeal to a male audience. I really don't see how you don't understand that?"

I already handled that crap, but I'd like to know. How would you, as the writer, have responded? 7_7

There is no controversy. The people are complaining about a throwback. Besides, if that's "degrading", then these people have NEVER been to: the beach, the gym, the park, or any pool in existence. Maybe every woman should never show skin because it's "degrading".

The entire story of Other M was more degrading to Samus than this outfit.

TekoIie4166d ago (Edited 4166d ago )

So much yes^^^

It's a shame the story was so terrible too since we might never see a Metroid game with gameplay like in Other M again (Personally liked the gameplay despite its faults).

deafdani4166d ago

I disagree. The overall story was good; it was the narrative that sucked balls (story and narrative are two different things).

I still loved Other M, because it had awesome gameplay, even if it was different from the Prime games.

MarquiseGT4166d ago (Edited 4166d ago )

I definitely agree with all of you.

lilbroRx4166d ago (Edited 4166d ago )

There are no sides. Only those who are aware of what they are talking about and those who aren't. The major point of the suit is that it is how Samus always looked (and its designed by a female.).

The people complaining are ignorant about the game series. http://oyster.ignimgs.com/w...

Note that the first Samus in the picture was edited by Nintendo of America to make it a once piece when it was released in the U.S. It was originally the same as the rest. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-v...

They're just gym cloths.

I'm pretty sure people don't wear business suits under their armor when they go out on a mission to shoot things. I suppose they expect her Zero suit to be a sweater and, blue jeans and some flip flops. That sure would be combat efficient.

To me smash brows Melee is my all time favorite. I can't tell you how many hours I played that game between friends and family. When I was a kid, my parents couldn't afford a gaming console so I had to go somewhere that had an arcade like setup with the only difference being instead of arcade cabinets, they had big screen crt TV's and gaming consoles setup. I would go with my friends on special occasions after school or with my family on the weekends.

I would meet and make new friends at that place as we were all gamers and we also brought our game boys and would trade pokemon. I don't think those places exist these days but back then, it was easy to meet like-minded people and have fun for hours.

Well, I’ll add my extremely subjective ranking too. I won’t include the 3DS version as I don’t owned it. I did play it for a few minutes though.

5. Brawl.
4. N64 Smash
3. Ultimate
2. Wiiu Smash
1. Melee

Yup Ultimate for me BY FAR is my favorite.

Ten Overdue Fighters for Smash Bros.

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "While the future of Smash Bros. has been uncertain for a while - whether Nintendo will build on Ultimate or bring us a new entry entirely - within all likelihood a new Nintendo system still means something new for Smash Bros. is on the horizon, and that something will almost certainly include new fighters, however many or few. While this might be the gaming article equivalent of putting up Christmas decorations in October, it’s never too early to start speculations when it comes to Smash Bros. before two thirds of everything inevitably gets leaked ahead of time. Keep in mind that this is not a list of predictions for future newcomers, though a few could perhaps fit in that same category, but rather a small list of the characters that in this writer’s humble opinion are overdue an appearance in the gaming crossover to end all crossovers."
