Assassin's Creed Unity to Have Microtransactions, Ubisoft Explain

J Station X writes

"The plague, accidentally dropping your chocolate digestive in your tea and microtransactions. Ask most gamers for our pet peeves and we’ll give you that list in that order. In free to play titles like Candy Crush we’re willing to accept having to pay extra for more plays in an allotted time because the thing didn’t cost us a dime to download and play in the first place.

But is it just fundamentally wrong for publishers and developers to shoehorn microtransactions into full price games that not only sell for $60 but make paid-for DLC available too?

That’s a very good question and a blazing white hot topic too so the microtransactions in Assassin’s Creed Unity are only going to fan the flames even further."

So to get the full game you fork 60$+dlc+season passes+microtransactions to make the game easier for people who dont want to grind , Really? Its such a shame that these devs and publishers are so damn greedy when their games already sell well and make them millions but no matter how much they have , they want more..

They already have microtransactions in Black Flag. In multiplayer you need a gazillion rounds to farm enough points for all skills, and of course you need to use all skills for a trophy to get platinum... Also the transactions weren't that 'micro' at all... I will never pay for stuff like that. I'd sooner stop collecting trophies... I don't really care if microtransactions give a shortcut for rich people, but if they drag out the regular gameplay to 'force' people to invest money it's terrible business practice.

That's a shame.

(Paid) DLC is bad enough, but can be forgiven when the content is actually worth the money (very rare), but also micro-tranactions...!?

Myeah, no thanks.

I miss the old days of just spending 50-60 bucks and you would get the complete game. And everyone got the same game. Now it's all divided between 'haves' and 'have nots'.

Well said, unfortunately there will always be b3llend5 out there that will buy a car for £400 or drop a grand on a suit of armour, they will have justified the publishers descion to include MT's in future games.

Well I for one will never pay microtransactions on a game that isnt free to play. Dont they already get enough money for their games

Grap4302d ago

Even in F2P i rarely paying any cent. only F2P that worth paying for is war thunder i recommend everyone to play it even so that game can be played without paying a single dime in it, it's fair and balanced every F2P should follow their game on microtransaction.

rdgneoz34302d ago

Played War Thunder for a bit, the grind is too much... Warframe is less of a grind surprisingly and has content updates regularly.

As for AC, I was stuck between this and Shadows of Mordor. Haven't had a good LotR game in a while (loved the PS2/gamecube Two Towers / Return of the king for couch co-op). Having a pay-to-win model is gonna leave a bad taste in people's mouths.

Zenith4k4302d ago

Exactly and to stick my finger up at this type of greed I'll buy it pre owned.

Bubbamilk4302d ago

Wow..ubisoft has really been pushing their luck as is....this isn't good I had already decided not to purchase an assassins creed game this year and this just guaranteed it.

Micro transactions crosses the line. They really are like EA now

princejb1344302d ago

I was buying this game until I hear this news
I just can't support micro transactions.

SnotyTheRocket4301d ago

Well, you could buy the game, and just not buy the OPTIONAL ("optional" being the key word here. That's why it's capitalized. Just thought I'd point that out.) microtransactions.

hazelamy4302d ago (Edited 4302d ago )

here's Iago's reaction, similar to mine.

I think microtransactions are fine, but not when it comes to full retail priced games. It seems publishers have been trying to nickel and dime us more and more lately. For example, I think that the idea of a season pass is fine, but I also believe it's bullshit when said season pass doesn't actually include all the content released during the duration of the season. A season pass should include all the DLC. As for microtransactions, they're usually cosmetic or give the player a boost, the former being something that was usually given for free and the latter which usually was a cheat code, once again, free.

I'll gladly pay 10$ every now and then to Riot games for League of Legends, seeing how I have spent hundreds of hours into their game for free; I don't intend to do the same for a game I already paid 60-70$ (in Canada).

I can't sit here and act like I know these workers financial situations. And I'm sure nobody wakes up WANTING to go to court. But for the sake of the industry, I wish some of these types of cases made it to trial.

Settlements allow companies to continue to do whatever abusive practices they do. While the trials (should the company lose) would actually force real changes for the better.

But again, I'm not in these workers shoes and I can understand them not wanting to risk it.
