Ubisoft explains why The Crew isn't on PS3 or Wii U

The Crew isn't coming to PlayStation 3 or Wii U because Ubisoft chose to "focus solely on the platform closest to the new-gen's technical infrastructure" when porting the game to last-gen.

But it's on 360, interesting

MasterCornholio4310d ago (Edited 4310d ago )

Your suggesting some sort of deal with Microsoft?

But why not just buy platform exclusivity and be done with if? Why make it for the PS4 and not the PS3?

This is very strange in my opinion.

XB1_PS44310d ago

No one made a deal. It's literally just the x86 architecture. The Cell in PS3 is completely different.

It seems as if they saw that it wasn't worth it since the PS4 could already suffice sales wise. They didn't need to spend all the time recoding for the Cell processor.

N4g_null4310d ago

When was the Xbox 360 x86? It's been power pc for a while. The old xbox was x86 and Intel charged them a bucket load for it.

So you are wrong there also. The xbox360, wiiu and xbone are running off similar stuff.

I'm wondering if ubisoft has turned into a ms studio to balance the console race scales. Who knows yet it's fun to talk about. This will end badly for ubi though.

How is your high end next gen engine working on the Xbox 360? I bet this is just the watch dog engine.

Muerte24944310d ago

XB1_PS4,

is correct. I personally don't agree with the decision seeing as how EU consumes the most racing games. If they took that in account EU is heavily PS territory. Xbox360 architecture is really close to PC that's why it was so easy to program for.

bouzebbal4310d ago (Edited 4310d ago )

so in other words this game has no next gen in it if it can fully run on 360. PR bullshit from Ubi once again. when i feel gamers are being taken for stupid sheep i boycott.

AngelicIceDiamond4310d ago (Edited 4310d ago )

So much for the game being truly "next gen" and only possible on PC and modern consoles.

SMH.

So after 7 years these guys still can't code for PS3? Is this 2006 or 2007

So much for Wii U being very important partners to Ubisoft.

Not to mention they're aiming for parity with X1 PS4 and PC.

Legion214310d ago

Did you guys even read the article?

Because it has the best infrastructure. Just look at the article dude, there is a tweet from the developer.

I've always said the PS3 wasn't more powerful than the 360.

kingofgames86u4310d ago

Is it weird that we've grown into a community that's been told lies and half truths for so long that we don't know when we're being told the truth or just part of it?

Anyway, I hope driving fans are able to get their hands on this where they can.

MasterCornholio4310d ago (Edited 4310d ago )

So basically the platforms with free online multiplayer. I Still dont understand it though.

vacoby54310d ago

Huh?? Ps3 has free online multiplayer not 360

ajax174310d ago

Yeah, the platforms with free multiplayer AREN'T getting it. That's his point.

Bubbamilk4310d ago

Good point I didn't think of that. Not really sure what that means either. But it is an odd coincidence.

BattleReach4310d ago

In other words: Microsoft gave us money.

(See: Unity XB1 Exclusive Gameplay and Content, Division XB1 Gameplay and Content, etc.)

Ck1x4310d ago

Developers should really be honest and say this, because that might be the dumbest thing I've heard so far this year!

ScorpiusX4310d ago

Like say Watchdogs for PS4 and PS3 had extra content or how Assassin Creed 4 had extra . The pot calling the kittle the black.

SilentNegotiator4310d ago

It's 2014. Ps4 is super popular, Ps3 is difficult to program for and the 7th gen is on its way out. Guess what the first platform (after Wii) to be left out on last gen stuff is?

TXIDarkAvenger4310d ago

The PS3 is hard to develop for. It's still on PS4 so it isn't an issue of Microsoft giving Ubisoft money.

Basically, the 360 is based on the PC infrastructure, so it was easier to port.

'Nuff said.

SG1_dapunisherX4310d ago

ps3 is a pain in ass, while 360 is way easier to port- devs

Nevers0ft4310d ago

The 360 is PowerPC based, not x86. The article suggests that it's easier to port to the 360 because of the back-end server infrastructure, not the console architecture.

Spotie4310d ago

No matter how many times you say it, you'll go unheard by the ones who need to hear you the most.

iceman064310d ago

You nailed it. THAT is the bigger pain for devs. They have to damn near code from ground up for the sever infrastructure on PS3. Xbox Live infrastructure is more of a predetermined suite that they can simply tweak as needed. Ubisoft has been creating PS3 games for the entirety of the generation. It shouldn't be that difficult anymore for them to program for that. More difficult than 360 for sure, but still not the pain that it was.

How a group of modders revived Ubisoft's cult driving game, The Crew

Back in 2023, Ubisoft announced it would shut down The Crew's servers on 31st March, 2024, which would make the game unplayable due to its always online requirements - even those with physical copies of the game were to be locked out. Needless to say, many were unhappy with Ubisoft's decision.

Some, though, decided not to just leave it there, and set about reviving the game on their own time and dime. Now a little over a year later, the fan lead Crew revival project - known as The Crew Unlimited - is gearing up for its release on 15th September.

Ubisoft holds firm in The Crew lawsuit: You don’t own your video games

Plaintiffs bring up a new claim, too, in amended complaint.

Christopher417d ago

***Replying to Ubisoft’s argument that the statute of limitations is up, the plaintiffs responded with their own photos of The Crew’s packaging, which states that the activation code for the game doesn’t expire until 2099; that’s an example of how Ubisoft “implied that [The Crew] would remain playable during this time and long thereafter,” per the amended complaint.***

I really hope this resonates with the judge on the two-sided talk Ubisoft has going on here. You can't have your cake and eat it as well, IMHO.

ABizzel1416d ago

A few of more mishaps and Ubisoft won’t be around anymore anyway.

Assassin’s Creed and FarCry are keeping them alive right now, and it’s a shame. Tom Clancy games are at a minimum now, The Division had its run, Watch Dogs has come and gone, For Honor was something new-ish, their lacking in New IP, and their older franchises just aren’t getting the right love.

OWCY87416d ago

rainbow six siege is doing alright

neutralgamer1992417d ago

I hope the judge favors the consumers because it really sucks what thees companies are doing. I am sure these companies will simply change their user agreements to add these new "we don't own the games clauses"

victorMaje417d ago

Ubisoft keeps trying so hard to not want my money. I will oblige.

isarai417d ago

Good thing i haven't bought a Ubisoft game since ac origins, and even that was a mistake 😆

Levii_92417d ago

I haven’t bought a Ubisoft game since 2014 and i don’t plan to change that.

Jingsing416d ago

I haven't bought a Ubisoft game since Watch Dogs 3.

vTuro24417d ago

Funny, now Ubisoft doesn't own them anymore either.
