The last part was especially surprising.

I probably didn't need all the points I made before as I was really just saying it's too early to tell, although this is the guy who personally picked Fallout 3 as his GoTY earlier this year in an office pool. Mainly backed on E3, Oblivion's GoTY awards, the Fallout franchise, and what I believe is often overlooked but often incredibly important... It's multiplatform!

My main concern is that outside of the big blockbusters there are titles from Sony, EA and MS in particular, that are really flying under the radar and might well steal the show.

It's a great year to be a gamer with so many top tier developers going head to head. Kojima, Square, Mistwalker, Rare, Lionhead, Bethesda, Pandemic, Bioware (?), Blizzard, Maxis, Turn 10 (?), Rockstar, Insomniac, Capcom, Ensemble, DICE, Valve and my personal favourite the return of Silicon Knights! :)

I'll no doubt love Fallout 3, having time to play it through during such a magnificent year for gamers is an entirely different question. ;p

Surprise games from either of Sony and MS may indeed steal the show (Or even a new Zelda from big N, who knows?). And it's more than great than Fallout 3 is multi so all gamers can enjoy it (But as kwicksandz said in other post, hopefully it's not too consolized / simplified)

Great year indeed. One that has the best developers of our time showing their newest works though you forgot my fave, Obsidian Entertainment, the company from members of Black Isle (RIP), creators of Fallout 1 and 2 and of course, Planescape Torment. They have Alpha Protocol and Aliens RPG to show :)

Arrrrghhhh when I was thinking Fallout 2 I had a strange blank on the developer. Shocking! lol

And I know they're not up the very top but I should've given Ubi and Firaxis yells out for EndWar and Civ Rev respectively. Possible GoTY's for their genre on consoles, not overall though thanks to Starcraft 2.

As for Obsidian I don't know much about the Aliens RPG but I've been following Alpha Protocol and it looks spectacularly original. A spy RPG (MMO?). Looks Awesome! :)

Let's face the facts people Oblivion was stale as that day old cookie I found behind my couch. Bethesda are just trying to cash in on the Fallout series success, half the people who probably praise it in comments have never played the first 2. Games today are too high budget to create original fresh ideas like Deus Ex, System Shock 2 and especially if it's coming out on consoles. I'm not saying consoles are for retards I'm saying companies think that only morons buy consoles and feel the need to create a game that caters to everyone's needs rather than create an original game that appeals to only a hardcore handful *cough, hardwar, cough* Bioshock, while being very fun, was a complete kick in the balls compared to the awesomeness of SS2, and DE: Invisible War was a complete step down from the first (god damn universal ammunition.) The question is, is it because of the developer too scared to create a sequel that will stray to far away from the original or is it that when considering not only the PC gamer they must consider the console gamer as well. Oh and btw HL2:Ep2 totally ripped the gnome idea off from System Shock 2's basketball.

Good call on Civ Rev and EndWar but as you said, their only chance is on consoles. Bad for them. Good for Blizzard :)
Ubi is indeed doing pretty good with new POP and FarCry 2.
Thankfully, Alpha Protocol is not MMO and hopefully will not become one. Obsidian has said that it's gonna have superb dialogue system like Fallout 1 & 2 and many meaningful choices and non-linear progress :)
But Aliens RPG is indeed pretty mysterious. Hope they don't cancel it.

mepsipax, I definitly agree, specially on Oblivion which I found downright disgusting even though it was still a good game. Oblivion was more disappointing than DE2: IW IMO.
Fallout 3 should be viewed as a spin-off like Tactics, which was a decent game. At least BioShock was made by makers of SS2. Still, even a seriously watered down BioShock was deeper and greater than most of 2007's games. So, if Fallout 3 can achieve even 1 percent of Fallout 1 and 2's greatness, it will still be worhty of GOTY and deeper than any other 2008 release.
Good call on HL2:Ep2. It also ripped the portal idea from Prey though at least they properly expanded it and made it better :)
