NowGamer: "Here's a hilarious little tidbit, with an innocuous comment from Don Mattrick claiming the PS4 will be the victor this generation."

Sony Has Won Mattrick has spoken lmao that guy made this generation fun.

Docknoss4174d ago

Don Mattrick is the reason the Xbox started this generation off in the debacle it had. If he claims this, then he's claiming he's a failure. Plus I'm sure he's not happy with MS pretty much releaving him of his duties after passing everyone off. His polices never sat well with me when he was at MS. Phil Spencer is taking MS where it needs to be. Mattrick will bring down Zanga soon

ScottyHoss4174d ago

He's got the Mattrick Touch :D anything he touches turns to loss. Hopefully him saying what he did won't jinx it

IrishSt0ner4174d ago (Edited 4174d ago )

So by this logic Xbox 360 won last gen, is that what the author saying?

sinspirit4174d ago

@Docknoss

While Don Mattrick made bad PR statements, he simply follows Microsoft's own regime. Him being gone and Phil Spencer showing up is just Microsoft making changes. Phil Spencer isn't the one making changes, despite how involved he seems to be. He's more of their next PR than actual decision maker.

2v14174d ago (Edited 4174d ago )

@Docknoss
Phil Spencer took mattrick place as the new mS stooge

Only a child could say something so asinine. Enjoy your re-makes, your reboots, your rip offs. One day you will understand that working for your money, puts the onus on you to hold the companies you deal with to a high standard. Waving a fanboy flag for any of these huge multinationals, gives them strength, and weakens the consumer. Pathetic.

Magicite4174d ago

It hardly matters what Mattrick has ever said. Sony wins on its own behalf.

Sharingan_no_Kakashi4174d ago

For sure. He said that history shows the first console to reach 10million units always wins the console war. That's not even true. Wii was the first last gen, xbox was second and playstation was last to reach 10million. However, when calculating games, sales and overall features Playstation won last gen, xbox came in second and Nintendo 3rd.

DanteVFenris6664174d ago

Nintendo still is in first...

No94174d ago

Consoles:
Wii 101.04 mil
PlayStation 3 83.01 mil
Xbox 360 82.63 mil

Software sales:

Wii 921 mil
Xbox 360 897 mil
PlayStation 3 835 mil

kurruptor4174d ago

Sharingan, do you often make up facts? No9 has it right.

Syntax-Error4173d ago

Sharigan is a big FANBOY!!!! For you to say Nintendo came in third shows how ignorant you are. Every gamer knows Nintendo smoked the competition last gen. The Wii was huge success with sales but not gamers.

insomnium24173d ago

Ummm guys the PS3 will continue to sell for many years to come. Didn't you know that it was only until recently when Sony stopped manufactoring PS2s. Yeah it's no typo I meant PS2.

That means that the sales for PS2 are now final pretty much. PS3 will continue to sell for many years and it will overtake Wii mark my words. My prediction is 120-130 million sold when the production has stopped.

The x360 is pretty much dead as far as MS is concerned and Wii is off the production afaik so PS3 will continue to climb towards Wii in sales and in 2-3 years it will overtake it. The 7th gen will end up as PS3 on top and Wii as a close second.

@Docknoss

Don Mattrick WAS like a SPOKESPERSON of the Xbox Division, a public figure pretty much. He was told to say "this and that", HE was not the (sole) responsible for the whole XB1 fiasco.

They thought he didn´t do a great job of communicating, what others (behind the curtains) had planned for the XB1, he was the easiest/cheapest to kick out.

Never forget :

Well hell, they forced him out. I doubt he's waving the Microsoft flag like he used to. Give him a chance, and I bet he'll say the same thing now.

iamnsuperman4174d ago

It is a quote from 2008 about the first to reach 10 million wins the generation

LordMaim4174d ago

Which is why I say give him a chance, and I bet he'll say the same thing *now*.

redwin4174d ago

The webpage is not working. Mmmm,

sonarus4174d ago (Edited 4174d ago )

maybe if he hadn't told ridiculous bold face lies like xbox can't work without kinnect or try to force kinnect bs on gamers he might still have his job

Based on close to a year of sales data, close to twice as many PS4's. The gap is not closing but widening even with new price drop. All evidence points to ps4 running away with this short of some anomaly. Microsoft is trying to make the right moves but it seems to be a little too late for anything significant

Blueraven3164174d ago

The winner was ps4 before it even launched

Ashlen4174d ago

I miss this guy, I can't believe Microsoft fired him just because he didn't know about nuclear submarines... Geez his specialty was rocket science, totally different subject!

Ashlen4174d ago

You people who disagreed with me... there's going to be hell to pay when I see you at the water-cooler!

minimur124174d ago

loving the references xD haha

Maybe some people arent just getting it...

On a more serious note....

What did that lady mean when she said 'xbox will be the next watercooler'? or something similar to that?

iNFAMOUZ14174d ago

are you kidding ? he almost drove microsoft to the grave

Ashlen4174d ago (Edited 4174d ago )

#dealwithit!

NicSage4174d ago

Funny comment, can't believe people took it seriously.

MonkeyOne4174d ago

If Microsoft could go back in time they would never have gotten into this console business.

Now they have climbed up a tree that they can't get down from.

All they did was put a financial dent in their business.

The winner of this "console" generation is Apple with their tablets and $1.99 app store games.

batman21x4174d ago

You have a source of this financial debt you speak of?

Godmars2904174d ago

Hell, at the very least they wouldn't had made the mistakes they had with the first Xbox.

@batman21x:
Because of manufacturing issues, failing to outright buy the rights to certain key components, they *NEVER* made a profit off of the first Xbox.

MonkeyOne4174d ago

You have to remember that until Microsoft bullied its was into the console business Sony and Nintendo did not release high-end, costly hardware.

Microsoft's first Xbox was the first salvo in what has been a console hardware arms race which has been good for consumers (more powerful devices) but has been a disaster from a pricing perspective for Sony and MS.

Nintendo didn't join in because they probably looked at the financials of selling $800 worth of hardware for $400 and balked.

sinspirit4174d ago

@MonkeyOne

Not true. Console hardware has been sold at a loss prior to XBox's existence in pursuit of market dominance and plenty of profits could still be made a few years down the line and off of peripherals and game sales.

XBox original was not that much more powerful than the PS2, and it released 2 years later. It was just powerful enough for some games that weren't previously possible on a console.

Nintendo did join in. The Wii U is a high cost for what it sells for. They just didn't join in the "high-end" graphical performance side of things.

PS3 was only so costly because of the R&D put into it as well as putting a Bluray player in it driving costs up hundreds of dollars, even including a PS2 emulator and wifi internally. This wasn't in reaction to Microsoft. This was in reaction to HD-DVD and they were more than confident that their console would quickly rise to the top because of PS2's success. Only later on did they react to Microsoft and try to lower prices and make deals.

dboyman4174d ago (Edited 4174d ago )

@sinspirit The 1st ps3 the 60 GB phat did not have just PS2 emulator, it had the PS2 chipset as well so it had FULL PS2 BC.

Godmars2904174d ago

@sinspirit:
The BR/HD-DVD "war" was a result of MS manipulation.

They wanted to include industry specific codecs, their codecs for which everyone would pay them, and Sony turned them down. MS then HD-DVD, which was never going to win because it was lesser capacity to BD, supporting their efforts which also slowed BD's saturation into the market. Sony did eventually given in.

Though BR was always going to be part of the PS3 because including DVD in the PS2 is what helped that format.

Godmars2904174d ago (Edited 4174d ago )

"Microsoft's first Xbox was the first salvo in what has been a console hardware arms race which has been good for consumers (more powerful devices)"

I'm going to say "no" actually. MS jumping into consoles with more arrogance than Sony has ever been accused of and no seeming passion for game making as shown by their inability to foster 1st party support, having to buy 3rd party exclusivity and even then only limited, has not been good for customers. If anything what they've been doing should be considered toxic.

Maybe the industry would have been served better if Sony had followed Nintendo's example and not entered into a console arms race. Just provided an open to devs system like they did with the PS1, but didn't repeat with the PS2 and especially the PS3.

Xb1ps44174d ago

What is it with this constant bs that ms has no 1st party exclusives? Last I checked sony owns more first party studios than nin and ms combined yet by the end of the year ms and sony have just about the same amount of first party games..

Then you go on to say that ms has been toxic... who knows if sony would have even considered an online if it wasnt for xbox and had sony followed nin look how the online would be. Ms has brought a lot to the tabe problem is many of you have too much hate to see..

MonkeyOne4174d ago

After the PS2 era ended it was time for consoles to "grow up" and become real hardware. PC gaming was taking off with 3D games such as Wolfenstein, Doom, Quake and newer GPU designs.

It was only natural for consoles to enter into the new era of high-end devices with the Xbox and then the Xbox 360 and PS3

Again, the problem is that they were selling costly new hardware at the old console prices.

Why?

Well Microsoft has 70 billion in cash and VERY massive revenue streams from their core business. They could afford a long console arms race.

As far as I m concerned Sony got dragged into a quagmire.

At the same time Sony is battling it out with a financial behemoth like Microsoft their own dominant electronics divisions were being eaten alive by a new era of cheap electronics manufacturers like LG, Samsung, Panasonic ...etc...

Not to mention the splintering of market share due to smartphones and tablets. PC's and Steam are also in play for a good chunk of the gaming pie. Remember PC gaming was supposed to "die" but has seen a massive resurgence with Steam, MMO's, Mineceraft and the general thirst for high-end graphics.

Microsoft and Sony are still VERY large companies that can muddle along for years losing money on their respective console divisions.

It's mostly a mess that the executive management teams at Sony and MS have to deal with while gamers get to enjoy cheap electronics and a generally wide range of gaming options.

Godmars2904174d ago

@Xb1ps4:
The thing is when you look past Tomb Raider, the announcement for a Halo channel, the typical COD content-first announcement and Ori which stems from their indy ventures, what was shown which was wholly a product of MS's game studios?

A roller coaster sim.

Not saying its going to be a particularly bad or anything, just that its not a good reflection of the creativity of a company that's been in the console making industry for over a decade.

And yes, Sony did something similar at the start of the PS3, a physics based online-only title the name of which I can't remember but own, but again, they have other projects which they wholly began and fostered.

oSHINSAo4174d ago

Well... Sony has fired more people if you ask me, thats how they dont show any financial debts, there goes another building...

jony_dols4174d ago

Ask you? I'm sure you're phone will be ringing off the hook, with the likes of the Wall Street Journal & the NY Times, desperate to hear your speculative economic theories.

HammadTheBeast4174d ago

I'd give Wii the crown for last gen.

DigitalRaptor4174d ago

Well the reason Microsoft got into the console business was to "stop Sony" - http://www.develop-online.n...

That's NEVER happening, so you're right in that. But the whole financial aspect is another thing to consider.

WitWolfy4173d ago (Edited 4173d ago )

Oh the irony, I remember feeling so good last gen knowing the 360 had more sales than the PS3 and the PS3 was dying blah blah blah..

Then 3 years later and 6 Xboxes later I changed my tone. Sony never was the problem, never were. so I ditched my 360 and went where I should've been since the beginning, Sony.

Gh05t4173d ago

I dont think that is accurate. I think if MS could go back in time they would just make sure the RROD never happened and would restart this Generations shows not putting TV and Sports first and dropping the DRM and kinect always crap they started with before reversing. If those two things had been cleared up they would be in a much different place than they are now.

MS has been making games for a while, granted none of them were really my cup of tea but I have fond memories of going to MS Redmond campus and playing Midtown Madness with some of the developers.

besides I think the zune is what they wish they could have uninvented, and went strait for phones.

Sony Remade Demon’s Souls, So Why Won’t It Touch Bloodborne?

The Outerhaven writes: Bloodborne is still one of PlayStation’s most beloved exclusives, but it remains trapped on PS4. Meanwhile Demon’s Souls got a full PS5 remake. But why?

theouterhaven.net
thorstein12h ago

Demon's Souls was a PS3 game.

Bloodborne is PS4 and can be played on a PS5.

There's no need for a remaster.

Relientk779h ago

I completely agree with you on this. If you want remasters or remakes give us games from the PS1 or PS2 era like Legend of Dragoon.

Eonjay4h ago

I would say thats a personal oponion trying to be passed off as a law. Truth is thre are many people who would love a remaster.upgrade so they can play Bloodborne at 60 FPS. People would literally love that.

shadowhaxor6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

I mentioned that in my article, did you read it? I literally pointed out this is exactly why the game is still doing well, and why Sony has zero reason to remake/remaster it.

And there are plenty of PS4 to PS5 remaster/remakes, to counterpoint that.

Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
GTA V Expanded & Enhanced
Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut
Control: Ultimate Edition
Death Stranding Director’s Cut
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection
The Last of Us Part II Remastered

Eonjay4h ago

Either because they technically can't because From Soft wont allow them too, or because From Soft is sorking on the sequal, remaster themselves. Therre is a third option of course and that would be that they are working on it

MinnesotaFatts1h ago

Some part of me wonders if there's some sort of corporate war going on at Sony.

Daver4h ago

I want a new one not a remaster

victorMaje3h ago

TLoU got the remaster & then the remake treatment.
Where is the next bloodborne, or remaster, or remake?

Goodguy012h ago

What it needs is a ps5+pc release. The game absolutely needs a 4k60 update. Lots of money sony is sleeping on while the souls genre is still hot.

MinnesotaFatts1h ago

Tell me you don't know what a remaster is without telling me.

Bloodborne is infamously capped at 30fps on either system--a bizarre design choice given that speed and reaction time is central to the gameplay systems. This capped performance was never patched out officially, unless you jailbreak and mod your console. A remaster for modern hardware, not the infamously finicky PS4 devkits, would be a great way to both hyper-optimize the game *and* drive sales for the PS5, which still doesn't have a system seller title.

RaiderNation6h ago

There might be some licensing red tape they cant get around?

shadowhaxor6h ago

That'd be interesting, but Sony owns the IP 100%. So, I can't see how that is part of the issue, if there is even one.

RaiderNation2h ago(Edited 2h ago)

Maybe Sony isnt interested in doing it without the assistance of Miyazaki and he's not interested? (Just spit-balling).

MinnesotaFatts1h ago

That's the issue according to FROMSOFT. They'd *love* to do a remaster, but Sony won't even return their calls.

Inverno6h ago

Because they're saving that for the PS6 to lure in all the suckers that will think they're making a sequel, but the whole gen will pass by and From won't ever touch it because Song doesn't care for either Demon or Blood outside of remakes.

Furesis3h ago

Because they made them do something else, then they canceled it and who knows what they are doing these days. They dont understand what they have and honestly i dont think they know what they are doing either.

blacktiger2h ago

How bout forget remade and start making new game pls?

Wow! Both Switch 2 and PS5 DE bump in sales! Congrats on both of them. And 300k+ units a week is insane! Considering Christmas rush should be ended already. And all top 10 best selling games are from Nintendo.

Update: Sorry, this is a 14-day sale, not 7 days.

italiangamer1d 8h ago

A month ago they sold 221.000 Switch 2 in ONE week, and Nintendo still hasn't fully resolved the stock situation in Japan 👁️👄👁️. Imagine after they have fully stocked it.

repsahj1d 1h ago

For comparisons sake. Between january to march 2025, Nintendo stock also dropped below 9k yen.

Neonridr1d 8h ago

313K in 2 weeks.. almost 10x as many PS5s

Japan loves the S2 it seems.

repsahj1d 1h ago

It shows even in games. Nintendo dominate the top 10 best selling games.

Neonridr1d ago

I mean Japan is Nintendo's playground, so no surprise there. Just crazy to think that Japan alone has accounted for nearly 50% of all Switch 2 sales or something

babadivad16h ago(Edited 16h ago)

Because Sony abandoned Japan. The Japanese have a preference for mobile consoles as well.

repsahj10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

#26 Ghost of Yotei - 1,415

Top 30 only game for Sony, even the multiplatform games are not selling there.

dveio1h ago

That's truly something, I agree.

I'd be really interested to read somewhat of a survey or something as to why Japanese gamers don't like to get into the Playstation ecosystem anymore.

I would love to read an assessment from Japanese gamers.

repsahj53m ago

I also wondering why. Is the 7M+ PS5 owners just stop playing?
