the release candidates aren't marked as RC's in the version but simply as 3.0, i guess this should explain it...

Ubuntu Hardy Heron had Firefox 3 Beta 5 when it first came out. They made the decision to do that instead of sticking with Firefox 2 and then suddenly changing to Firefox 3 halfway through a cycle.

Kind of makes sense I guess, but Firefox 3B5 was quite buggy from what I understand. Then again, I haven't heard great things about Hardy Heron overall either, so I'm sticking to Gutsy until 8.10 comes out.
