Five Previous Gen Games that Should be Remastered

Gary Swaby at The Koalition writes: I know many of you are thinking "Please! No more remasters," as you read the title of this article. Even I'm getting tired of hearing about games being remastered. It's clearly lazy and a way for publishers to make quick money while their newer titles are still in development.

With that being said, if publishers are going to continue with this trend then they may as well remaster games that make sense. Sleeping Dogs is an awesome game and clearly one of the best open world games in recent memory but did it really deserve a remaster? I think not. Here's a list of five previous gen games that I'd love to see get the remastered treatment for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

This is a great list. I'm totally down with seeing Red Dead Redemption on current-gen consoles.

As for Uncharted I'm surprised that that hasn't been announced it. I suspect it will be though.

Profexxion4302d ago

Damn all of this. Gears? Uncharted? Let's not and say that we did...

Because...

WE DID. LAST GEN. New titles. New stories. New experiences. Why are we SO comfortable with replaying the same ish over and over?

Romudeth4302d ago

It's like rewatching old movies you love: you want to redo the experience.

I guess you can say that I'm "part of the problem." I buy every remaster under the sun. Considering how much beefing up the current-gen systems need in terms of games to play I don't mind them doing this. However, I still think it should be classic games. Some of these are still too new.

Roccetarius4302d ago

Didn't you know? We have DVD releases, Bluray releases and then a super editon on top for gaming. Some companies even go beyond that.

Yeah, that's the future you can look forward to.

avidgamer14302d ago

I would be more interested in remasters from the ps1 or snes era. Complete graphics overhaul that would make it outstanding.

Games like
Chrono trigger
Ff 6
Ff 7
Super mario bro 64
Castlemania sotn

hkgamer4302d ago

maybe some people who missed out last gen.
i missed plenty of games in the last few years and i wouldnt mind playing them again.

i could in a sense just get the originals. but if they made it better or similar to pc port then why not get that.

With old movies, I grab them off the shelf, blow off the dust, and give them a spin. The transition from dvd to blu ray was vast and I understand a re-release then. But a subtle shift in tech doesn't demand a remake with titles not far removed from our memory.

Romudeth4302d ago

I can agree on that. I think a game should be at least ten years old to be remastered. Games from last-gen being re-released, even though I still buy them because I'm insane, is a bit weird.

LackTrue4K4302d ago

my list of games...

1. Virtual On/Dream-cast version
2. one of the TimeSpliter games
3. Golden Eye N64
4. Man Hunt/PlayStation2
5. this is just me but.........TWISTED METAL BLACK

Mass Effect Trilogy with all the DLC
Red Dead Redemption next gen oh snap
The witcher 1-2
Uncharted 1-3
Bully
Original Mafia
LA:noire
MGS3 and MGS4
Time Splitters
Yakuza collection
Kingdom hearts hd collection for ps4(most likely will happen)
Castlevania lords of shadow collection
a total MGS1 and NMGS2 remake
demon souls for ps4
FF7 complete remake
Resident evil 4
Shenmue HD remakes 1-2
Crash HD remakes/collection

Profexxion

Like any sort of entertainment, we all rewatch movies, listen to songs over and over so why not getting to play older games on next gen consoles

people who complain are just annoying, no one is forcing anyone to buy these remakes. In majority of the cases a very small team is working on these remakes. or a Totally new team is doing the remake, who later will get the opportunity by someone to maybe do their own game

in a lot of cases its the best way for a newly formed studio to get work and get some positive reputation

but people just look at remakes in a bad way because they are remakes.

it was funny the other day i saw some user complaining about TLOU remaster yet few comments above were happy to play halo HD collection. So its okay as long as its your favorite game, but if its not than full on hate mode

Romudeth4302d ago

That's a great list too, man! I'd buy those! :D

This is a great list overall, but I'm rather surprised that the Mass Effect Trilogy didn't make the cut. Seeing as how Mass Effect 4 is currently in development, it would make sense for EA to release the trilogy as a way to pull new fans into the series. My best guess is that this will definitely get announced sooner rather than later.

hkgamer4302d ago

i kind of want a me trilogy remake. could give us option to play all three again, or have a choice for an edited trilogy so i can complete within 20 hours.

think lots would hate me, but i rather do that than play all three.

DarkOcelet4302d ago

Its great to revisit such masterpieces but cant we just move on .

Big_Game_Hunters4302d ago

true but it would be awesome if they added 3D world's lighting. Better yet i want galaxy 3

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory4302d ago

oh lord more remasters and publishers will listen because yall wish for it and support it

Romudeth4302d ago

We're part of the problem lol

yeah, they're gonna overprice it so only 0.5% of the playerbase can buy it. The spiderman packs cost like 650 for 12 packs or something, on top of spiderman not fitting into mtg at all. Most of current PS characters don't fit either.

Immediately thought of the El Dorado zombie dudes in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune.

raWfodog380d ago (Edited 380d ago )

Not necessarily a ‘horror’ moment, but I remember feeling really tense and anxious when the Flood were first introduced in the original Halo. I never felt more on edge or nervous in that whole game as that moment. I think it was the whole buildup that something terrible was coming but you didn’t know exactly what.

Another non-horror game that had me feeling it was Subnautica. The deep dark depths, and knowing that sea monsters were lurking nearby, had me jumping at every sound.

That scene where you first see them attack is pretty crazy!

I remember being scared of the Asylum level in the most recent Thief game from 2014.
