A Closer Look at EA Access

Electronic Arts recently announced and rolled out a beta version of EA Access, a new Xbox One-exclusive program that gives members unlimited access to EA’s biggest games and more for a modest monthly (or annual) fee. Now, after a successful beta period, EA Access is launching live to players in a dozen countries around the world.

Such a good value, I went ahead and bought a 1yr sub. That seemed like the best deal to me. Of course its still a good deal for $5 a month as well. You could sign up on a month that a game you want comes out and get to try it early, then use the 10% discount to buy it, that would pay for your month sub(and have $1 extra), and get to play all the games in the Vault for a month. Couldn't really ask for a better deal.

I cant wait to try out Madden 15, NHL 15, and Dragon Age. Ill probably buy Dragon Age if I like the trial. Then again that kind of depends on how much I enjoy Destiny. Might just wait til Dragon Age gets added to the Vault. Gonna be nice getting to play Madden every year. Before I only bought it every few years, now I don't have to buy it at all.

ThatOneGuyThere4292d ago

...you do understand that you'll be playing LAST year's madden, right?

marlinfan104292d ago (Edited 4292d ago )

he was talking about the early access that comes with it

This is great for nonenthusiast sports fans (racing too eventually) such as myself. I enjoy them sometimes but not enough to buy them and renting is even a stretch as usually something else I prefer is available. With Access though I am more likely to play some (even older ones as besides roster most play similarly enough) and who knows if I find one I enjoy enough I may pick up a new copy now and again.

For enthusiasts though the discount basically pays for itself as EA has a ton of Sports/Racing franchises. I could probably cover costs with misc game savings in a year easily as for bad of a rap EA gets they have a lot of devs/games I enjoy.

@ marlinfan

1) marlins? really?

2) "t. Gonna be nice getting to play Madden every year. Before I only bought it every few years, now I don't have to buy it at all." <-- in no way means what you think it means.

@ThatOneGuyThere

I have no issue waiting a few months, or even a year for a Madden game I had no intention of buying in the first place. But for the price, Ill play Madden every year, and be happy about it. Whether you wait for a game to be added to the Vault, or buy the game, you are getting a better deal than people who pay $65 for a new game.

Its not just Madden either. EA puts out Golf, boxing, soccer, basketball, MMA, Nascar, Need for Speed, NBA Street, etc,etc. Then you have non-sports titles like Battlefield, Star Wars Battlefront, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Dead Space, Army of Two, Titanfall, The Sims, Plants v/s Zombies, Peggle, Crysis, Command & Conquer, Alice, Mirrors Edge, Monopoly, etc,etc.

It wouldn't be a mistake to believe that every EA title released on the XB1 will be put in the Vault at some point. Once retail orders, and DD get small or stop, adding the game to the Vault will add a new pool of consumers to sell dlc to, and gain EA Access subs.So what had once been a title that had stopped making money, becomes a title that could still make money. Also, it should be noted that the only sales that should matter in the decision of when a title gets added to the Vault, are XB1 sales.

@ ThatOneGuyThere
The only thing EA Access is doing is giving people a cheaper option than buying a used game, so they will get the money for their game instead of a used game dealer getting it. Its nothing to fear. Publishers will never drop new games sales for a subscription service. Firstly, they would lose an incredible amount of money. Secondly, the subscription price of a service that offered new games would be astronomical, ad would never float with consumers.

ThatOneGuyThere4292d ago

OK. You just made it sound like you were finally going to get to play Madden. I just wanted to make sure you knew the vault version is last year's Madden. Thats literally all I was going to say. :-D

I'm ultimately against publishers individually coming out with these subscriptions. Mainly because its a very transparent grab at money. Another reason is that its not beneficial. Its literally just penalizing the non-subscribers. If its even a minor success it wont be more than 2 years before Acti and Ubi follow suit. I loathe pre-order bonuses for the same reason.

@thatoneguy

i see he cleared up what he meant by that down below, but this is what i was talking about in my other comment.

Im holding out a little longer need a few more games adding before I splash the cash.

Izzy4084292d ago (Edited 4292d ago )

It's a good value. But I'll wait til they add more games to the vault. But if you're someone who plans on buying about 3 or more EA games in the next year, the subscription almost pays itself off on the 10% discounts.

I did a one month for now. Was going to buy BF4 for the 28 bucks on amazon but for 4 bucks I can try it and if I like the other stuff about this service i will buy a full year. Seems better than buying BF4 for almost 30 bucks when I get four games to play for the same price. Good value and idea EA

Immorals4292d ago

Did exactly the same. Definitely worth it!

MSBAUSTX4292d ago

Yeah and it is downloading as I type lol

Immorals4292d ago

Downloaded yesterday, was playing some after the gamescom presentation, I've lost all my skill!

Samsara824292d ago

I personally sold my copy of BF4 an Fifa 14 and Best Buy gave me 35$ for them so it basically paid for one year of EA access. I guess if you have both games, selling them makes it worth it and now no more disc swapping which is very nice.

MCTJim4292d ago

well worth the sub of 30 bucks a year. Loving it :D
