N247 writes: Ever since the launch of the Wii U there have been mixed feelings when it comes to its social networking and multimedia features outside of Miiverse and Netflix. Many may argue that the console’s sole purpose is its first party games and that’s it; and while that is partially true, there are a few reasons why the Wii U is not connecting with many people today. Nintendo has the games part down fine, but the console is missing some of the things that can really help it get some exposure in some of the biggest social media networks today. Below are some of the apps that should eventually be part of the Wii U’s main menu.

The name "Hewson" carries a special weight for anyone who grew up during the golden age of British computing. As the son of Andrew Hewson—the man behind legendary publisher Hewson Consultants—Rob Hewson didn't just grow up playing video games; he learned to spell his name from their title screens. However, Rob didn't just rest on his family's 8-bit laurels. From leading major LEGO franchises at TT Games to tackling the high-stakes world of technical porting at Huey Games, Rob has carved out a unique path in an ever-evolving industry. In this candid interview Rob to discussed the burden and beauty of a family legacy, the technical "scar tissue" left by the ambitious Hydrophobia, and why porting a masterpiece like Inscryption to consoles is far more than a simple copy-paste job.

NE: "We rank the 10 best main series Super Mario games in celebration of the recent MAR10 Day with 2D and 3D included."
Best 2D, Mario World, best 3D, Mario 64. Can't say there's been a bad one, although Mario World 2 wasn't a true sequel. The Mario Land games were good (not the first one) and also Wario Land. I thought after Mario 64, Mario 3D World was excellent.

Believe it not, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is almost ten years old. It was a massive game for many reasons – it launched alongside Nintendo Switch, was a new take for the series by going fully open-world, and introduced various aspects like voice acting in a mainline game for the characters.
Haha that's clever. By killer apps I thought they meant popular games. But popular apps on the other hand is another thing. Facebook and Twitter are basically covered by the web browser. But Plex and Spotify would be excellent for Wii U owners.
Plex!!! yes!
I've always wanted music apps on my consoles. Since Last.fm has gone a bit downhill lately I've moved onto Pandora and wouldn't mind seeing an app. for that on consoles.
That's what I think the biggest problem with the Wii U is, missed opportunities like this. The gamepad will never be a full blown tablet but with the tablet-like interface the ability to use entertainment apps on the thing is way underutilized. The two screen interface would make apps seemless while Nintendo TVii integration could leave them all with a slick unified interface. Pandora, Spotify, Rhapsody, HBO Go, Beats Music, Twitch, Crackle, Max Go, Redbox Instant; the list is endless. Why isn't Nintendo going after that?? People expect more out of a system than just games in 2014. When somebody spends $300 on a box for their living room they want it to play EVERYTHING this is an era where my Jeep plays DVDs and Pandora at the touch of a finger so why doesn't a game system do that for me?
I always said that they would do good with integration like this. How real would it be to have a Iheart radio app and then even be the one that streams the concert live. Work out a deal where people can purchase tickets to watch those concerts you don't even have to go to Vegas.
